 First of all: VOICE.

God, I am a sucker for alien purring voice. And I am always warmed up (lol) when I am listening to him *sigh*

Second: character. He was so adorkable in ME2. He was cute, but also very appealing. In ME3 he is more of a badass, more confident. And that voice *purr* Plus great sense of humor ;)

AND he is loyal. Not like those (*&#&^$*^&!!!!!! Kaidan and Ashley. He never doubts you.

I don't know how to NOT romance Garrus.

Pretty much this by now having watched videos of all possible male/female romances, if not having experience them for myself in various playthroughs. People have articulated why they go for Garrus, so I'll tell you why I didn't go for the other guys.

Kaidan just doesn't flick my switch. I will admit I initally found him kind of attractive, but eventually came to see him as whiny and exasperating, especially after Horizon in ME2. He was also made less appealing with weird moments in the voice acting like his post-sex "JOKER'S WAITING FOR YOU ON THE BRIDGE" in ME1. While watching his romance scene video for ME3 I found myself gritting my teeth at the way it felt (to me) like he more or less steamrolled Shep in the middle of whatever she was doing to ply her with booze and get her into bed. Smooth like a brick to the face. Get out of my cabin.

Thane - He was my LI in my first runthrough of ME2. I totally fell for his whole dying, sensitive assasin-with-a-bagful-of-regrets-and-a-heart of gold schtick - hook, line and sniper rifle. But then I romanced Garrus and Thane suddenly seemed so stock-character-love interest to me, like he was designed to specifically have that effect on hetero women, that he just became boring. Lovely and attentive, but predictable. This also had the effect of me no-longer appreciating the ninjamance, and that pentagon in the middle of his forehead also started reminding me of a soccerball (I know that is mean and petty, but it prevented me from taking him seriously). I will admit that ME3 redeemed him for me though. I watched a vid for a romanced version of his last scene and I cried for him.

Jacob - I would pub and bar crawl my way around the Galaxy at the drop of a hat with that man, and I know I would have the best time ever because I'd be with the bro-iest of bros and it would be the perfect easy-going platonic relationship. But I would crash on the floor of the Normandy's airlock before I ever crashed into his bed (never). He's never felt right to me, and after we did that brofist/shoulderhug thing in the armoury in ME2, our love could never be. And we were cool with that.

That's pretty much why I will always go for Garrus every time. To me he's the best option there is, and of what's available he makes me laugh the most. He was the most surprising and the most unpredictable of the male LIs in the way his character developed but he always made sense, and from ME2 onwards I always felt equal with him. That, and Keener absolutely NAILED who Garrus was.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go recruit a hot-headed, idealistic Turian C-Sec officer for my Normandy SR1 crew. Toodles.

I took Garrus everywhere in my first ME2 playthrough until I was suddenly presented with the option to romance him. I had no idea it was coming and had never considered it, and it just felt weird after that.

He's a good character though and great as a friend to Shepard.

 I don't even...how could you...why should I....there is no...Garrus is....
Without writing a novel, all I've got is Garrus is...GARRUS.
Like...he's GARRUS!
To quote Chuck Bass of Gossip Girl....
"Because I'm...Chuck Bass Garrus Vakarian."

Oh, also I have to add: yes, I find him attractive ;) well, maybe because I am girl who goes after tall, big and scary looking guys ;) There is something about being with someone like that that gives you an extra feeling of safety. But, well that's just me in a reality.
I love his fringe, and his cute little nose ;), and two things that are moving when he is talking. I don't know, I think that when I played ME2 turians where soo normal to me that I didn't think of Garrus as a phenomenun, just... normal.

Because Garrus is awesome. I'm almost tempted to a play a femshep just to experience his romance option first hand.

You should totally worth it they got the #1 treatment.

I say though add to Tali, VS, other ship LI and extend all  other LI save the Garrus x fshep oen becasue theirs couldn't get much better!

EDIT: I also think its the whole way they carry themselves in addition to the voices my sister just started a game with 3 has never played any of the other games (yeah I know I told her start at ME but she ignores me) she loved the Turians and she only saw the counciler she thought right away he's cute! So take that for what you will.

His VA nails every last line.

Definitely helps. His VA is very good at his job.

Garrus has always been at least a liked character of mine, and each game has warmed me up to him more. I've always seen him as a brother to my FemShep, but nothing more than that. As in, she considers him family, not just this war buddy 'bro' thing. The idea of romancing him is so alien and foreign to my Shep's mind that it puts it in Jaime/Cersei territory levels of 'ew'. His quips and outlook on life line up with mine in some very eerie ways at times, too, which certainly doesn't hurt. (Like having issues with shades of grey.) Of all of the squaddies, I relate to Garrus the most. Thane is probably second.

I don't find Garrus sexually attractive, even though I'm a straight female, so I can't comment on the more lustful obsession with him. It is as alien to me as it is to my Shepard.

I also would like to add...count the times that FemShep smiles and jokes in his presence compared to other romances. That's why I think my FemShep fell for him. Sexually...who knows what she thinks? I'd rather not get too much into it and details of chafing, but the good thing is that the screen blacks out before that's answered for us anyways.

I just noticed that most of the LIs have deep sultry voices. But Garrus pulls it off the best. He's so transparent and honest. It's hard not to like him!

I only like him as a bro. He's badass and hilarious. I especially loved the sniper duel scene, where my Shep missed deliberately. lol

My first femShepard was trying to romance Garrus simply cause I didn't know the guy and he seemed like a badass at the time. Taking a rocket to the face and surviving it. Not to mention he seemed like he knew my chracter from the previous game. Granted this was my very first run through of the entire ME series. I had no idea what the hell was going on. Not to mention half way through the game, someone I apparently knew previously was taking the micky out of me for following the plot (Kaidan) and I had no idea who the hell this guy was. So I purchased myself a copy of ME1 and went through again, then realised 'oh - Garrus's this guy.'.

For me, the first itme I romanced him was cause I had no idea what the hell was going on.

I have to agree with what some people have already said here. To me it seemed like the "healthiest" romance mentally. Kaidan is cute but way too whiny and kind of a huge pushover, the fact that in ME3 if you romanced him in 1, then Garrus in 2, and continued the Garrus romance in 3 Kaidan's basically like "Well, I'll always love you but I want you to be happy." AND THAT'S IT! At first I was so worried about having to let Kaidan down, but after that scene I thought he deserved it, lol.

Yes, you get those funny awkward moments in ME2 from Garrus, but for the most part he's confident about the fact that he likes you, just not how it's supposed to work biologically, which is a valid concern.

And yeah, I do have to say I liked the voice. :-p

My FemShep has no interest in Garrus romantically, but he's one of her dearest and closest friends becuase he's a fellow soldier who's been through hell, just like her, and is snarky just like her, and is a sniper just like her, and he'll never let her get away with any BS. He's the brother she never had, and he'll always have her back and never lie to her. But he'll also never stop competing with her in order to make sure that they both keep getting better at what they do. While there may be better romantic partners for Shep, nobody makes a better bromantic partner from any of the games in the trilogy.

I've never really got it either. I've never found him particularly interesting but he did have some fun stuff in ME3. Definitely just a friend though, interspecies relations are weird when they have spikes, scales, sharp teeth and any other odd, animalistic qualities :P Basically Human and Asari are OK, the rest is weird.

I like to compare Garrus to a lost wolf pup: Inherently loyal, playful and fierce, but not really feeling to belong where he is. Take him in, teach him not to eat your shoes (or rather: help him through the uncertainties while he refines his moral compass), help him find a place in the world and with time, he'll become the best friend you can ever imagine. Ultimately, by the time of ME3 he's full grown and even the one to in turn lift Shepard up.

And of course, his sense for sarcasm and snide humour are perfect.

(extra Kudos to the people who worked on this character)

Because he doesn't have a human fetish. He only likes Shepard and is willing to go out of his comfort zone to make it work. Plus he's had Shepard's back since the beginning. They often agree to disagree (if paragon) but still trust each other no matter what. When Garrus does not understand Shepard's motives he asks what's going through her head instead of screaming 'traitor' at her face. And he can go toe to toe with Joker. That is why Garrus is my favorite LI. But no really, he is about the only LI character I have not wanted to strangle.

Is it strange to say I like the way turians sound when they talk?

I'm a guy, and when I played femshep after completing my canon maleshep I felt that Garrus was too much of a bro to pass up in ME2. Bromance would be applicable here but its femshep :P.

Seriously, you cannot argue with his epic ness with his calibrations, and his favorite spots on the citadel, and him just being a bro.

Garrus is such a strong character with a solid actor that portrays the role really well.
And like a few of us guys have already said, if I was a girl i would possibly swoon along with the other fangirls over how charming his personality is. And as a guy plain and simple, well, he is a hardened veteran with lots of hard times behind him and still manages to keep his cool and keep his motivations intact, that takes a quad.
Turians in general in the ME-series have suprised me as to how well developed the race actually is.

Garrus is indeed an epic character. Personally I never romanced Garrus, but saw the videos and have to say it is very well done.

Still, to me, he is totally a bro.

Garrus is ALL my Sheps' #1 Bro, but he's just way too alien looking to seriously consider having my FemSheps get down with that.

Of course, I think about all the small stuff that usually gets overlooked like the fact that they can't even eat the same food. Same reason Tali never really appealed to me, even though she's a nice enough person. Just too many hurdles for a realistic relationship to work out.

He's a badass, and I like the sarcasm. Plus I just like his story. He's a guy whose motivations are clear and pure, yet he finds it incredibly difficult to find his place in life and the universe and is constantly disappointed, most of all by himself. It's just a good character.

And if you don't like his "top of the Presidium" scene in ME3, you have no soul.

Outside of the scenes with Liara, Garrus' shooting contest with Shepard was great.

"This is Garrus Vakarian, and this is my favorite spot on the Citadel."

Plus I love this line when you talk to him on the Normandy, "Who needs their ass kicked now?"  The way he says it. Perfect.  Garrus is my canon femShep's best buddy.  Him and Tali.  Which is perfect because they hooked up together in the end.
