I like the guy as a character, but to me it feels like the game skipped ahead a bit made it seem like you were friends for much longer than you as a player know the guy

Garrus was not my favorite character in ME1. In ME2, however, he never left my squad. Same for ME3. The character is complex, deep, and well-written, and undergoes a very consistent arc over the course of the trilogy. His VA is one of the best in the series, and he has great lines. His loyalty to Shepard overrides everything, and when Shepard was dead, he became the friggin' Punisher.

How could you not like this guy? If I ever do a FemShep trilogy run, she's romancing Garrus for sure.
