Is A Patch Ending Workable--Rather Than DLC?

Please hear me out.

Going in I was expecting 2 ending choices like we usually get--instead we got 3. Granted I don't think the synthesis one makes much sense  given it's lack of exposition, but alas--we have 3.

Control- I see nothing wrong with a control option--as it allows Shepard to save his beloved allies the Geth and EDI. A bittersweet ending for Shepard to be sure, but fitting since in this option Reaper tech is not all destroyed.  Sucks for Shep, but life goes on better than before. In a way -this is the Paragon option.

Synthesis- I can go crazy debating this option--leave it, but explain it better in dialogue.

Destroy- This is what we all were expecting. Only we didn't necessarily see that all Reaper tech would get destroyed. We need to know more on what will be destroyed. Other than that I could live with it.  If EDI and the Geth die then it is renegade to say the least. Why does Shep get to live in this option as well-doesn't Shepard have Reaper tech in himself?

So, basically the largest sticking point is the Relays themselves. Even if the relays need to blow up is it feasible that 2 relays can  transport themselves to another relay since they would have nearly matching mass? The Citadel and Sol relay are near each other so they could start a chain reaction that ends up transporting all the relays to a section of space with little to no intelligent life; and blow up there?  I ask because in a patch couldn't Shepard advise the Alliance species to go back to their home worlds through the relays, and then initiate the relay transport and destruction? This would leave a little mystery, but make Shepard a responsible individual that doesn't doom millions of people....  A little clarity could be added with a few extra scenes,  and dialogue. Short epilogues could be added via text ala DA:O.  Any future missions or Shep adventures could be done through paid DLC.

If the Relays could transport themselves somehow before exploding I think a large portion of the debates would be mooted. Shepard could die, shepard could live, shepard could be changed...without dooming the Alliance races/species to death in nearly every option. BW wanted to leave  a little mystery which is fine, but the Catalyst needs to expalin a bit more about consequences and more about itself  IMO. I don't need a medal ceremony...I just need more explanation. I'm sure this leaves plenty of issues with the ME lore  itself, but may alleviate some of the problems without rewriting the ending completely.

So I guess the question is--can the Mass  Relays transport themselves theoretically--or could they shut down and fry themselves  without blowing up?
