Why Is Everyone So Forgiving Of The Eavesdropping Side Quests In ME3?

They were the same as the fetch quests in DA2 that everyone hated except instead of finding some torn pantaloons in a crate, you scan a planet and find an artifact.

So many people say 'only the ending sucked'. What about how side missions were handled, reduced interactive dialogue with squad mates and tons of auto-dialogue.

Are these lost in the hysteria of the awful endings?

I share the same opinion.

I was worried that the sidequests, and the character interaction would be weak in thw game but I wanted to believe in Bioware.    But it looks like I was right, because Bioware was simplifying things with each game..  It annoyed me considerably that all the things you did or did not do on previous games, was just mentioned as war assets, without major repercussion in the story, which is lame.

BUT, what really bothered me is how the sidequest are butchered into a prove launching fest.  This game is supposed to be an RPG, and you are supposed to explore new places take quests from people, so you can expand your gaming in the game; BUT NO, the only thing you do IS LAUNCHING PROVES!!!

Also the fact the there is only one tiny hub in the WHOLE game is disappointing.    I am not saying that the game should be open-ended (like Skyrim), but at least give us some places to spare some quality time acquiring items, data, quest, armor, etc.

The game on its own right is really good, but it is a disappointment as a sequel of ME 1/2. :(

Forgiving? I hate them and I have made sure to voice my dis-pleasure at them on many occasions.

No I'm no fan of the streamlining of dialogue and missing dialogue wheel too. However the endings are the worst part of the game. Seriously why play the game if the ending is crappy? That's my feeling on the game. It's why I won't play FF13-2 it's just as bad as the endings for this game.

So yeah I don't like how they streamlined the game to this point. However I would rather have a better ending first then complain about the streamlining second.

There are some things Bioware can't really fix at this point, so we're focusing on what they can. =/

They were annoying but they weren't game breakers.

One good thing was that the sidequests took up a relatively small part of the game, but it's sad that they were like sidequests were in DA2. Well, if they release a lot of DLC there will be even less side quests in comparison to main, so I guess I can't complain.

If they fix the journal it wouldn't be so bad.... and how come Shepard suddenly become Altair and nosing everybody business, Its just a cheap way to have less dialog between characters..

Those are biggest flaws of the game (aside from... you know), that and maybe the mistreatment of the ME2 crew.

The auto dialog wasn't so bad for the most part, but there were quite a few times that i went "that's NOT what i wanted to say" (specially for Renegades), taking control out of the player is inexcusable in "RPG mode" and i wish more people talked about it.

The delivery quests, coupled with the bad journal was a pain in the ass.

Its like going to a restaurant and having a really bland main course and then the waiter takes a dump in your dessert.

The next day, which part of the trip to the restaurant are you telling your friends about?

Simples: They made claims about the ending that turned out to be inaccurate at best; the side quests, on the other hand, are simply badly done.

The former is awfully close to false advertising whilst the latter is perfectly legal (if a software product doesn't work, too bad; if you lose data, resulting in a financial loss, too bad - cf software liability)

unable to import face from ME2, etc..

Tell me about it, I still haven't played the game.

I do know the ending now though, impossible to not know it with the storm raging all over the internet.

It seems they tried to implement DA2's awful fetch sidequests. However since you have to eavesdrop someone talking about it before finding it that means they actually tried to improve it (the main complaint in DA2 was that we magically knew who needed that random item who stumbled upon).

Too bad they seem to have gimped the journal in the process.

I liked the eavesdropping quests. Wish they were more than fetch quests though.

They were in general pretty crappy, compare them to ME2 sidequests like:
-Helping Shiala deal with the Baria frontiers representative
-Deciding what to do with the asari and the krogan couple
-Helping the quarian on Omega or selling him out to the elcor gangster
-Helping Ish on Omega or selling him out to Aria´s lackey

Those are just some examples. All of those were sidequests with dialogue, paragon/renegade options, fleshed out the universe, and felt just right. The journal entry also worked perfectly.

Then we go into ME3 and we have quests where we eavesdrop people, learn what they want, go to a planet and gain war assets (like rescuing people or things), then go back and give it to them. The only decent sidequests in ME3 were the Kasumi/Zaeed ones on the citadel, which were closer to ME2 sidequests. Also the batarian codes quest was also decent.

The only eavesdropping quests i liked where the ones where you could support one guy or another that were having a conversation, those make sense because your shepard isn´t actively doing any favours, just giving his opinion on something.

Because I find nothing wrong with them sure shep is nosy but you know what? They get what they wanted. Everyone is happy. The only issue I've got with the sidequest is that its all scan from orbit minus 2 of them that you find while doing raids against Cerberus or such. I would've like a few worlds that I could sandbox explore like ME in my mako and find/dig up the items in quest like the first banner, the multiple prothean artifacts, things like that I don't need 30 uncharted worlds but say 5 would've been fun you know for old times sake I'm happy though I get to fight along side my lovely makos though.

EDIT: Right now my new strategy to complete all the sidequest is to just run into every system available to me at the time and scan it till I've found all resources cuz that way I've got the item before npc #85 even knew they wanted it.

I admit these were annoying especially the auto dialogue and the lack of squad dialogue but currently they are bare able compared to the ending.

I think as well dialogue does improve when romancing that character.

I say ignore them totally, its a waste of time, [SPOILER] as if they matter because something bad will definitely happen and those items will not matter.

They weren't 'sidequests' really, just 'miniquests' in order to boost your score ;).

I kinda didn't mind them really, except:

1)Lazy. Just a way to make me probe the galaxy. Wooo.

2)Shepard is creepy just standing there like that. Like he's less of an active participant than ever. Geez Bioware, people should be bloody FLOCKING over me by now!

It was just one of the many things I took issue with about the game but was willing to let slide due to my love for the series as a whole (alongside the abysmal quest menu and Diana Allers). The ending was the straw that broke the camel's back...

Well, aside from the ending the side quests were indeed kinda "meh" compared to ME1 and ME2. Most were acquired by eavesdropping, and most were just "go scan this or that planet", which is kinda lame. But still, while some said the game is shorter than the earlier ones, I didn't find that to be the case despite the lack of "real" side quests - my time to completion on ME3 was longer than the earlier games. Compared to ME1 noticeably longer, and compared to ME2 slightly - although my final ME2 save did have some N7 stuff undone - I had done it earlier, but had to backtrack and then it was left undone in the end. But regardless, I didn't feel ME3 was too short, even if it indeed could've benefited from nicer side quests.

I don't mind those, so long as there isn't a time limit.

My main problem with missions in ME3 was that the journal sucked, and it wasn't always clear what  missions you had to complete right away. Whenever a mission is time sensitive it should state that in the mission description. Also, it shouldn't have been possible to unlock missions before you had unlocked the systems those missions took place on. Sometimes it was a bit confusion in that you'd get missions for star systems that you couldn't find on the galaxy map, because you hadn't yet done another mission that opens up that system.

Yeah. I didn't mind the lack of a wheel in some conversations, but timed missions always annoy me. This is further anooying by the vague journal.
