Just after the Cerberus thing it was a tad underwhelming / the fleet sequence started off well but there was too many races missing . But I thought o well. :-

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I carried on thinking well they can be forgiven I guess but!!!!

THEN! I was running around London thinking why can't I save. MEH and ok is this it for the base? but MEH I got to talk to all the old crew not quite what I wanted but still.

THEN! Playing the next sequence it looked cool I thought meh the landscape is a bit narrow for london and it pretty much looks like any other ME type level I thought it would be a bit more ... HOLY CRAP They killed that mako.

THEN! Ok this is getting ridiculous where do they keep coming from? OH I have to run to the missile thingy thing thing.

THEN! The next battle is going to be freaking awesome and there's gonna be a mega boss and some wicked ending I can't ****in Wai..................... HUH? This .......... Whats this?

I was running toward the light and a Beam hit me and now I'm toast. This is a ****ing dream sequence right? This makes no sense. That can't be it.

This is ****ing it? I've been preparing all these battles for this? Are you ****ing kidding me?!?!?!

Shut up Anderson I really don't give a flying **** where you are you dosey old bastard why the ****ing am i bleeding everywhere.

What the **** illusive man you just ****ing shot yourself? You weak willed ****. You're supposed to be clever .....

Anderson is dead what the ****? This is so typical.

WHAT THE **** I PRESSED THE BUTTON AND INSTEAD OF EVERYTHING BLOWING UP I'M TALKING TO SOME ****ING STUPID LITTLE BOY.

MY CHOICE IS EITHER OF THESE ****ING CHOICES ARE YOU ****ING JOKING?!?!!??! THIS IS ****ING IT? A CHOICE OF BLUE WHITE AND RED LIGHTS

IS THAT IT EVERYTHING IS GREEN AND OMG ITS FINISHED

*reloads missions save point*

Thats just a ****ing different colour WHAT THE ****

*Internet*

Thats it .... thats all I was excited about. This sucks this has literally destroyed my weekend .

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I saw the light!

But to be honest I'd sort of lost interest in the dodge the bug animationed side quests before heading to Earth, and the whole sequence from there was lackluster, poor cutscences of a 'few' of my war assets & the missions really made the end a farce - a few missiles to take down a Reaper (after the earlier orbital strike) before entering the light.
So why do I have to die and destroy all the 'gates' to finish, when luring Reapers around and 2 missiles each would do the job, all be it more slowly?

I disliked the whole "citadel = catalyst" and became even more annoyed when the Reapers towed the Citadel to the Sol system without any explanation on the why/how. It all seemed too plot-devicy, as if the writers wanted to end the game in a certain way but couldn't make it flow naturally from the rest of the narrative. Then none of my war assets showed up in the epic space battle and I was disappointed.

I loved the endgame mission on Earth. It was really awesome imo and I loved teaming up with Anderson and being able to talk to all these important characters one last time (although I really wanted to have one last chat with the council for nostalgia). The only disappointment was that, once again, none of my war assets showed up. I wanted to see my elcor ground forces!

So just when I was really getting into the game again after the strange immersion-breaking Citadel-in-the-Sol-system thing, that beam thing happened. Everything went screwy after that and the TIM conversation was a little...lacking. I can't really explain it, but his dialogue seemed forced and unconvincing. The same goes for Shepard. I still have no idea how my Shepard convinced him to commit suicide with those arguments. I didn't find her convincing.

Then came the Anderson conversation and I was completely immersed again. It was incredibly touching. When Hackett called I was confused, because the last transmissions before getting beamed up suggested that everybody thought the entire ground forces (including Shepard obviously) had died. So how did he know Shepard was alive? I loved how Shepard answered. "What do you need me to do?" It sums up Shepard perfectly. Always ready for duty even when on the brink of dead.

Then everyone's favourite Diabolus ex Machina showed up and the ending was ruined forever.

I still really enjoyed the conversation with The Illusive Man. Yes it was reminiscent of Saren but that was the point or so I surmised. It was only after Hackett called me that I really had a problem with it. I probably would've even accepted Shepard just bleeding out with Anderson as the Crucible went off. I'd want an epilogue still, sure. But I could at least live with an ending like that. Instead we got this crap.

Right about the time I convinced TIM to shoot himself.

I started laughing and having flashbacks to Saren.

Then Earth.
The design of Earth was just bleak and depressing, I understand why, but it was boring to look at, to fight in and ultimately EVERYTHING was grey and boring from there on - no interesting skydrop, no Reapers in the background, no civilians or intense fighting in the streets, or invasions with Hammerheads and Makos nothing really. Such a waste oppurtunity and it didn't feel finished. I didn't want to take back Earth anymore.

Then the final battle, which was lame. I was expecting a suicide mission based format to the mission with multiple stages, we foguht our way to some missiles and then fought off (an admittedly hard) collection of Reaper forces. No choices, no nothing, just fighting, it was really underwhelming.

So true.

Long before the story went to absolute crap, the gameplay actually fell in the toilet as well.

They didn't make it look like Earth at all.

They probably should have put it in the US and let it be around recognizable monuments. Yes, people play in other countries, but if nothing else New York City is probably visually familiar to almost anyone that consumes US entertainment.

The battles sucked and were boring.

As you mentioned, no charm like civilians running around (or hiding) or Reapers in the skies. Nothing.

After Harbinger, mainly because the whole TIM/Anderson conversation felt like a dream. They need to redo that scene, have TIM waiting for you, and have Anderson actually look he was just shot by a Reaper. Because the way that scene plays out, I don't believe it actually happened.

There is no mention of the US anywhere in this game, it starts in Canada and ends in England.  Surprised myself that they didn't end it in Toronto, CN Tower would have been awesome to see.

From the moment Shepard was blasted on earth, the whole story took a 2001 Space Odyssey like feel, almost too unreal. If this was really the end of Shepard's own story the last ten or so minutes were oddly surreal compared to the other parts of the game and lacked in terms of being complete. This is even more evident by the lack of choices he or she was given come the end, it was as though reality took a nose dive and crashed landed elsewhere, a major staple of the game trilogy. And that would have been an well accomplished ending for the game let's say if they were planning on making a Mass Effect 4 or even an expansion for the game. As it stands, it ruins the game, all of it from that point forth and no more then the lack of options despite the variables of each Shepard, to me it felt like the death of free will.

It's funny all those Krogan thought it was amazing Shepard took out a Thresher Maw on foot. Little did they know he would take out a Reaper on foot.

But seriously, after you stab Kai Leng it slowly devolves. But when Shepard was teleported into an alternate game universe by Harbinger's beam, that was when it completely derailed. There was wasted potential earlier in the game, but the end sequence makes the rest look like a masterpiece.

Oh well, at least they reminded me to give them more money for DLC and transported Shepard back to a point where he could do those missions...

For me it was when you have to make the choice to either destroy, control, or synthesize. I personally thought the game had been going very strong up to that point. (Granted the earth segment could have been a little better in making it feel like it truly was the galaxies last stand). I even thought the Guardian wasn't that bad of a concept. It explained the Reapers, but still kept a lot of mystery behind it (such as it's flawed logic). But I was disapointed by the fact that each of the three ending choices leads to the same outcome and that the whole part with the Normandy makes no sense. If those last ending sequences, whichever one you choose, would have been handled differently I would not have minded how the game ends.

It didn't go wrong for me, it did what I wanted it to do. Emotional component to finale of the game not spreadsheet of facts and general knowledge about everything or database, wall charts or epilogue cards to sum up what have seen prior. The only things I wanted from this game was choices that showed clear impact during the game (it did this even if you do not like the outcome of some of those choices), provide many dialogue choices through the game (they pulled that off okay with me), good overall story plus combat entertaining (succeeded imho) and make the final farewell to the character in an emotional way for the end (which did).

A simple difference in expectations and desires for the product even though I have played Bioware's games as long as most people here. 95% of the game I loved and 5% I liked or was okay with. Overall it makes it in the list of top four of games I liked in past year.

The ending went wrong for me when you did not have a choice to fight against the godchild will. I wouldn't have mind his existance, in fact, if you were able to fight him and survive, would have made the Reapers and the Catalyst SO MUCH MORE interesting.

They'd remain being unkowable, the intentions and logic of the Catalyst? A mystery. But at least you got to fight against pretty much a god, and win. The outcomes could have been variated. I would prefer if the citadel and relays weren't destroyed. And if the Reapers weren't quite destroyed either. Weaken, that would be a key point. Weaken to the point that a small flotilla could take one.

AND THEN, from there, you can continue playing and cleaning the galaxy of the Reaper thread one by one. Take Earth Back, Take Palaven Back, Take Thessia Back. Everything! On synched fights through ground and air to take down the Sovereign-class Reapers.

THAT, would have been awesome to me.

when the Normandy is leaving the sol system for no rational reason, and nearly disintegrates to preform a successful crash-landing after dropping from FTL speed, where the entire crew,
originally on earth, step out in perfect health (despite the fact they should be puddles on the walls, by all accounts). Good luck rationalizing this.

I could get into the fact that the Citadel had something to do with the Crucible and that it had been taken to Earth. I mean yeah how else will you convince the Turians, Asari, Krogan etc to go to Earth FIRST and leave their home planets under attack by the Reapers while you save yours - The whole marketing 'Take Earth Back!' had always been an epic failure anyway - so that didn't bother me too much.

Earth itself was pretty cool. It was as devastated as it should be after 2 - 3 weeks of constant siege by the Reapers and the combat, though a bit familiar by now, was good there. The final scenes with the squadmembers and Shep's LI were very well done, the mission to join Hammer team and fight to the beam was pretty believable and enjoyable. After getting shot by Harbinger I first felt the woozie view was because of Shep's injuries, I liked the scene with Anderson and TIM, though TIM could've gotten a better end.

The final conversation with anderson and his death were moving and well done, though the cut dialogue should've remained in there. Even Shepard crawling to the console was great, after that... not so much.

Then came "I am the catalyst". I started facepalming.

The rest of the game was cringeworthy and downright painful to watch.
