It's not going to "blow over". People may eventually stop complaining about the ending, but the scar from this wound will likely never heal. Also at this point the idea more "casual"players are likely to be any more happy with the endings is wishful thinking. The endings are fundamentally flawed and will most certainly not endear to most longtime fans. I think they're gambling on the idea that new players will like the game. Quite frankly I'll be surprised if they even beat it. Had I not played the DLCs and kept up with the books I most certainly would be confused playing ME3. The game does not do a good job of introducing new players to the series at all. So at best the ending is just going to be even more confusing since it violates most of the games themes. ME3's Ending might have made some sense directly after ME1, but certainly not after ME2 or ME3.
Even if you are okay with the ending(s) it should be at least obvious why folks find the ending a let down. And that's a very big problem. The fact many people are not satisfied with these endings is going to hurt both Bioware and EA. Especially when you take into account how many folks were upset with DA2. At this point Bioware has more or less managed to shake their entire fanbase. That's not good. ME3 was their chance to rebuild confidence in their products. And sad thing is they almost did, because if you overlook the endings ME3 is a pretty good game. Flawed in some ways to be sure, but honestly it would have been worthy conclusion to the trilogy. Unfortunately the ending (at least in my opinion) is so bad that not only does it make ME3 far less enjoyable, it also has the same consequence for the previous two games.I really do not understand how they thought the ending(s) they had were a good idea.
But the thing is people are going to remember. Whenever someone mentions ME3 months later from now it's probably only going to be remembered for it's terrible ending. Which is truly unfortunately. The ending just casts such a huge shadow over everything that was done right that it really cannot be forgotten. This means people are really going to be skeptical about anything Mass Effect related that comes out. You can at least be certain that people won't be pre-ordering in masses like they have. Quite frankly if something isn't done to remedy the endings I will probably sell all 3 games cause honestly I don't even want to remember that I played this series to begin with.
Like I said ME3 was their chance to rebuild trust. I would not be surprised if people started swearing off Bioware games for good now. This also does not help EA either as it only adds to the current trending opinion that EA is a big evil Publisher that ruins things. I don't think ignoring problems is much of a solution. Will likely just make it all that much worse if they leave things this way.
