If you haven't yet, please partake in the poll. Thanks.

EDIT: I intended this poll to reflect the reason people had for buying ME3. I wanted to keep the choice as simple as possible.
By 'gameplay' I pretty much ment shooter + running around elements of the game (that's what gameplay in ME series is, isn't it?)
By 'story' I originally ment the plot, the characters etc. So all the RPG elements.

The person who voted for gameplay needs to set his/her priorities better.

People play Tetris for the gameplay. People play Mass Effect to feel like they're part of a story. No brainer. Hell, even the poll on the game's official facebook page shows that in spades.

they are both equal, if i cant enjoy the story then the gameplay will suffer. if it aint fun to play then the story wont matter.... like halo.

I can't vote either way as both for me are of equal priority.

If you want a good third person shooter, play Gears of War.
If you want to give a damn, play Mass Effect.

I don't see how I could enjoy a game if the gameplay is ****ty as hell. In the opposite, many games are good even if the story is bad.

Any game without a good story will simply be a repetitive indulgence with hardly any meaning.

Good gameplay will encourage me to replay a game over and over, whether its singleplayer or multiplayer. But eventually a new game will come out with better gameplay, so that other game will be fall into the background because gameplay is always improving.

A good story will endure over time, regardless of any improvements in gameplay.

So while I could only play kotor twice and ME1 a few times, the experience stays with me.
I could play ME2 dozens of times, but on the whole it leaves no lasting impression.

A good story can accompany for crappy gameplay. Doesn't work vice versa for me.

I'm not going to vote because a AAA title needs both. ME3 had both, at least until...you know.

Why is there not an "even mix of both" option.

Gameplay burns up eventually.

Story.. is all what its about.

Although one without the other would be bad but Story imo is much more important

If gameplay is the most important thing to you, you shouldn't be playing BW games.

You need both to be successful. Many company's that have focused on one or the other either are not around anymore due to poor sales or release kinda fun but sorta crappy games.

In general both.
If a game is pure gameplay - I play it for short burts and get bored quick.
If a game is pure story - I have to force myself through the gameplay to get to the story parts.
If a game nails both - I call it one of my top games of all time.

In Mass Effect 3 though - I would say Story.

Which is why the ending was such a let down - for years it will be debated if they would have been better off spending their development costs on the SP instead of kinect and MP... right through the game I was thinking they've pulled it off, they've got kinect, they've got MP, they've got a great single player - haven't cut a single corner, they've done what no other company before them has managed to do....then I reached the end.

I really think the gameplay is good, but Story has ALWAYS been the deciding point for me in Mass Effect, that and Characters.

since the endings made the story completely worthless and useless Mass Effect has nothing else to offer because even with ME 3 its combat is not at the level of Gears of War games level
