I hate to use the term, but I am starting to wonder if it is actually true. She shows a lot of traits common to one anyway. She has no real flaws that I can really notice. Everyone but Javik seems to be in love with her (and Javik is wrong for not liking Liara) and even a hardcore renegade Shepard is forced to be her friend by Mass Effect 3.

Then there is the unrelastic and weird character development she undergoes, that just seems forced to keep her relevant to the plot. Unlike, say Wrex or Mordin who have more believeable development, and grow as characters in a natural and organic way. But not Liara. She starts as a Prothean expert, and is kind of shy. Cool. Then she is suddenly a cold, emotionless information broker out of nowhere, and then. She is the most powerful information broker in the galaxy. That is a huge leap, and it is very hard for me to believe that a character that was a shy and awkward archelogist just two years previous is now one of the most powerful people in the galaxy. I know about the comic, and even then. It is still a huge leap that the shy and awkward archelogist did all of that.

Ah, screw it. Nobody has read this far. At this point you are all hammering the reply button to yell at me. So let's just talk about who is going to be eaten first on plothole planet. I think it will be Joker. Look at him. He's the weakest, and also has brittle bones. Bones that will be less of a choking hazard when everyone (excluding Garrus or Tali who cannot eat Joker) have to cook him. EDI? What's EDI going to do? I bet she can't beat a rock upside the head. That's how you beat technology. Shepard. Rocks. And kicking. Vega kicked the **** out of that console and, you know what? IT WORKED. Maybe if you kicked the Catalyst or something we wouldn't have had those endings!

I tend to agree. She gets a lot more attention than any of the other squadmates. To me Liara was ok but i felt all the squadmates should have gotten equal treatment and as her role in game proves, that's clearly not the case.

probably more an editor's pet. one individual writer wouldn't be able to shoehorn a character in to the detriment of others if the other writers didn't want him to.

Because she slept with him, amirite?

I think Liara's character is quite complex and interesting, and probably my favorite in the series. You have to consider that the gap between ME1 and ME2 was years, and then there was another half year - year gap between ME2 and ME3. And while she does act cold and calculating, there are plenty of scenes in the final game that show she is emotional and quite distraught.. even if she isn't always acting like it on the surface.

Well why else would they take the scenario of Kai killing her on Thessia out...

Even if they made it a choice... They were to afraid that the players would actaul kill Liara

Yeah a bit. Though I liked the change in her in ME2, because she was no longer so goddamn boring.

Indeed. She served no purpose for me beyond her mission in ME1. I was actually like 'Why is a Prothean expert suddenly part of my squad and able to use a gun? '.

She was MUCH more epic in LotSB and ME3.

Yeah, sure Liara's Bioware's favourite.

I guess that just makes me lucky that the character I like the most just happens to receive the most love from the writers too.

meh i didnt mind at all to be honest i liked liara.

i think really liara and ash are both cannon but you decide really who your cannon is in the first one if you talk "nicely" to both of them. they confront you and you decide who you want your cannon figure to be :) lol then again liara does seem to be more done for Shepard than ashley but meh.

As for the planet, yeah Joker probably gets eaten first. Garrus will go crazy with starvation and start picking people off with his sniper rifle, Javik will be sitting on a rock cursing Shepard's name for denying him the opportunity to see the Reapers die, Tali will kill herself to stop the pain, Vega will promote himself as the local breeding stud, and so on.

I bet Javik will use that rock to smash out all of that space magic nonsense.

Yes, she is. I say that as someone who likes (but isn't overly interested in) her. As someone who was "single" throughout the series, it comes off pretty clear that the writers are just throwing you at her in ME3.

I liked her best in ME2, though. Shame she wasn't more Shadow Broker-y in ME3.

This is nonsense, is Shepard a writer's pet too?

She's an important character along with many other people.

When we first meet Liara she is a niave paleontologist. She's seen a lot along the journey, so I would expect her to change more than Wrex, Garrus, etc. Look at Tali. She went from a whelp afraid for her life in ME1 to an admiral in ME3

What you said is true. However seeing as she was my LI in ME1 it makes sense how she could turn dark and be at war with the shadow broker for trying to sell my dead body to the collectors. Don't know how she became charismatic though.

I dunno.  Her mum is Benezia after all - tell me she didn't observe some ruthlessness during her teenage years that she might have applied later.  Plus, she is a quarter Krogan and her dad is pretty awesome - Asari genetic memories and all that.  She's certainly extrememly intelligent and somewhat reclusive (evident
by her 'shyness' in ME1, and the fact that in both ME1 and 3 she's
always hanging alone in the ship as opposed to say Garrus who's bro'ing
out with Wrex or Vega).   She hits the right 'requirements' for being
the Shadow Broker.

Also, I think her story works better in the context of a Shepard romance.  She pretty much falls head over heels for Shepard, and takes Shepard's death at the start of ME2 pretty badly.  Hence her turn to a 'darker' side.

Ash & Kaiden really couldn't stand Liara in ME1.
