Liara: So, Shepard, you loved Ashley. Where does that leave us?

Shepard: Let's just be friends.

Liara: Oh, okay...

Liara, later: So, Shepard, I really care about you. How are you feeling? Can I get you a cup of tea?

Shepard: Uh. So, about that intel you gathered.

Liara: Oh, yeah, in a second. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am that you came to visit me, Shepard. Do you need anything else? A back massage maybe?

Shepard: No...thanks. You know, how about I just ask Glitch? Cool? Cool.

Liara: I made you a present, Shepard. Sit down on the couch with me and I'll show it to you. I want you to know how wonderful I think you are.

Shepard: You're very nice too, Liara. Very nice.

Liara: It's just...in Asari years, I'm barely more than a child [ed. -- Her words exactly!!!!] and I'm out here all alone. I just think it's important that people connect with somebody.

Shepard: Yeah. Uh, I need to do some readiness exercises on the bridge, just write whatever you want about me. Peace.

Seriously, Bioware, it just got creepy after a while.

There was I believe alot of demand by fans to feature Liara more, so they made Lair of the Shadow Broker. She is the most popular romance as well. She is okay. I didn't much care for her in ME1, ME2 her new role sort of surprised me and made her more interesting. I still think she is too much of a Mary Sue. A Blue Mary Sue. Heh, that rhymes! All other romance options had believeable flaws of some kind and developed more naturally, I agree. The forced friendship thing annoyed me as well. There was just too much of her. I'd of rather more scenes with Garrus.

Not entirely sure what is with the last paragraph but I hated the ending anyways since it was full of plotholes, like that one.

Just wanted to make sure people were reading the entire thing. Not just the title and the first paragraph and deciding to reply right away.

It's a fun experiment to do when you are writing a paper or messageboard post. Make it somewhat long and throw in something bizarre to see if people are actually paying attention

I think this is the point Bioware is trying to make. They made the ending bad on purpose to see if people were actually paying attention.

Well, apparently more people were paying attention to the ending of ME3 than this thread then. This thread has been entertaining, though.

Plot twist?

Plot Twist: Liara was the true avatar of the Reapers, and the "moment of serinity" she gives you before the final battle for Earth is actually enhanced Indoctrination.

There was too much Liara and too little of everyone else in my opinion. I think that Tali would probably be the first to die/suicide on Crash-test island, I don't know about eaten, but Garrus would starve otherwise, right? (sorry Tali.)

It think asari in general are given preferential treatment in the series they simply do not deserve. Namely, Shepard seems to like Liara no matter what, and Shepard seems to respect Aria no matter what.

This is all the more frustrating since the premise behind the asari race is one of the most ridiculous, absurd bits of creative diarrhea ever to to boxed up and sold.

And besides, everyone knows that unnamed crew members are the first to die. Sorry random Alliance guys sitting around the Normandy...

Aaand that would be galaxy doomed for most of my playthroughs. No thanks? Maybe. Depends. It is hard to resist the blue so maybe there is some indoctrination going on in there.

I bet the planet is dextro.

Mass Effect 4 will be Garrus slowly turning into some kind of turian Tarzan.Or be like that book Hatchet. I remember that book. It was a good book. Ending was eventually retconned to where the protaganist wasn't rescued until winter, due to fan demand.

Liara only became the most popular romance through LotSB and now ME3. Before that Tali was leading in that area. And by leading I mean dominating. Hard.

Not that I have any problem with that, given that I like Liara.

Also, I think "who dies first?" depends on wether the Normandy crashed on a dextro or levo friendly planet and wether or not there is anyone else around. In any case,I think Tali would be the first to say "screw it" and kill herself, given the situation and all, so she'd technically be the first one to die. Though we don't know wether or not anyone of the crew died during the crash itself, do we?

I think if Vega kicks the Normandy enough times that it will be repaired enough to fly off that planet.

I hate using Wikipedia. But it seems to back up my shoddy memory

Paulsen says that many readers wrote to him, complaining about the deus ex machina ending. In response, Paulsen wrote Brian's Winter, which explores what would have happened if Brian had not activated the transmitter.

Well she's over 100 years old and probably a lot of time to acquire all kinds of skills.
That's what I can think of anyway.

Changing the story because fans complained about a deus ex machina ending? Disgraceful; that's a betrayal to his vision and the art he created.

Yeah, that's an issue I have with Liara. A legitimate one. She was written to be a romance, and if you don't want to romance her, you have to deal with that creepy stalkerish vibe.

Yeah, but didn't everyone have a personality-rupture after Shepard died?
Garrus became Archangel, Wrex became the ruler of Tunchanka, Liara became an information broker...

Garrus going nuts and being a vigilante fits his personality. He is a hot headed person who thinks he change the world by killing a few criminals.

Wrex becoming ruler of Tuchanka had the groundwork layed at Mass Effect. Honestly, Wrex probably has the best character development in the series. Next to Mordin.

Liara... Liara just switches personalities.

Weeeeeeeell...her switch from jolly and naive to dark and ...well darker is easily understandable if you read those tie in comics about her getting back Shep's body. She's betrayed 2 times I think, has to deal with merciless SB forces and I think Collectors at one point aswell and to top it all the SB kidnaps and tortures the only person that kinda sorta helped her in all of this (a friend, one might say) and she has no clue on how to get him back. On top of all that she feels deeply guilty about handing Shep over to Cerberus.
Find me any person that's not Shepard who wouldn't become a dark and cynic person after all that crap.

If one did not read those comics, however, it's easily understandable how one could be confused how Liara somehow changes her entire personality like that.

You don't -have- to call Javik off Liara if you don't want to. Nothing he says to her is false, it's all true.

She was very sweet,  naive and bookish in Mass Effect 1. Not unattractive, I enjoyed her character. I liked Williams better, but mostly because Ashley shared my fondness for shooting Wrex.

In Mass Effect 2 she's somehow..Edgey. Dark. Sinister. Driven. Which is all well and good, but it hardly worked with that flighty little voice of hers. It was unconvincing that in just two years this graduate student from Thessia was now the top info-broker and eventually The Shadowbroker. Very strange.

Thankfully, Mass Effect 3 came around. They reverted a lot of the damage they did in ME2, and she became largely more tolerable. Which is good, because Williams suddenly became unbearable in and I had to put her down. Very sad.

You serious? Outside only forums, ME1 was pretty much split between Ash and Liara, and ME2 was mostly Miranda. Including the casuals is important.

lmao

First of all, the ME1 romances sucked. Not necessarily because the characters sucked, but because the romances themselves were badly written. Especially glaring with Liara. Second, why do you think Tali and Garrus became LIs in the first place? Protip: Fan favourites.

Protip: You need to get off the internet. 90% of gamers don't go to forums/gaming sites. Guess where Bioware draws info from? Forums/gaming sites. So, derp, of course the forum favorites are gonna be considered "fan favorites" because that's where Bioware gets feedback.

I mean, if Wrex can go from a selfish merc to ruling the Krogan, Liara can become the Shadow Broker.

Did you not talk to Wrex in ME1? He talks about how he's always thought the Krogan should be united and how he laments that they become mercs out of hopelessness. Also, he points a gun at you at Virmire for his people. Wrex was VERY composed, not a "selfish merc". Wrex's developement into Urdnot's clan leader and unifier of the Krogans was natural.

Anyways, yeah, I like Liara, but she wasn't my love interest, Jack was, and I like Tali and Garrus more. I wish Bioware didn't ram Liara down our throats. =/
