Liara: So, Shepard, you loved Ashley. Where does that leave us?

Shepard: Let's just be friends.

Liara: Oh, okay...

Liara, later: So, Shepard, I really care about you. How are you feeling? Can I get you a cup of tea?

Shepard: Uh. So, about that intel you gathered.

Liara: Oh, yeah, in a second. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am that you came to visit me, Shepard. Do you need anything else? A back massage maybe?

Shepard: No...thanks. You know, how about I just ask Glitch? Cool? Cool.

Liara: I made you a present, Shepard. Sit down on the couch with me and I'll show it to you. I want you to know how wonderful I think you are.

Shepard: You're very nice too, Liara. Very nice.

Liara: It's just...in Asari years, I'm barely more than a child [ed. -- Her words exactly!!!!] and I'm out here all alone. I just think it's important that people connect with somebody.

Shepard: Yeah. Uh, I need to do some readiness exercises on the bridge, just write whatever you want about me. Peace.

Seriously, Bioware, it just got creepy after a while.

EXACTLY!

There's also that moment on Earth where she shares some vision with you, which had Shepard thinkin',"Oh. Well, that was kinda cool. Glad we're friends." Then, Liara caresses Shepard like they're lovers, even though she wasn't my love interest. WT*, Bioware?

Yep, 3 is all about Liara Liara Liara etc...

Liara: Shepard, can we be close friends? (not LI)
Shepard: No! Lets focus on Reapers, i dont have time to chat.

And still keep getting those "love" questions

Too bad there is no way to get her killed. Oh well, writer has that choice

I mean, if Wrex can go from a selfish merc to ruling the Krogan, Liara can become the Shadow Broker.

Did you not talk to Wrex in ME1? He talks about how he's always thought the Krogan should be united and how he laments that they become mercs out of hopelessness. Also, he point s a gun at you at Virmire for his people. Wrex was VERY composed, not a "selfish merc". Wrex's developement into Urdnot's clan leader and unifier of the Krogans was natural.

Anyways, yeah, I like Liara, but she wasn't my love interest, Jack was, and I like Tali and Garrus more. I wish Bioware didn't ram Liara down our throats. =/

Wrex in ME1 isn't Selfish... His bitter and Jaded by the stupidity of his race.

Most of Liara's friendship scenes are completely optional. You don't want her present on earth?...she doesn't force you to share memories, just say "no" or ignore her.

I find Garrus' forced friendship annoying...I simply ignore him.

No. Garrus is not.

Garrus is optional in Mass Effect, he does not need to be recruited and is not a huge part of the plot. In Mass Effect 2, he is still not that involved in the plot, and he can die.

Because of said death in Mass Effect 2 there is the possibility of him not showing up in 3.

Liara's friendship is much more forced. And is basically a romance with slightly less touching.

What do you mean less touching?  All my playthroughs have had more intimate physical contact with Liara than any of the LI's thus far.  Now admittedly it's all clothed which I suppose should count for something.

When my Shepard died, he thought of Liara and not Tali who he had spent the last two games boning.

Go blue or go home son.

Plot Twist: Liara was the true avatar of the Reapers, and the "moment of serinity" she gives you before the final battle for Earth is actually enhanced Indoctrination.

If Liara is the true avatar of the Reapers then sign me up for indoctrination. :P

She's just lovesick...:(

Seriously though, getting a little vitriolic here. I actually think that all the characters are kinda underrepresented in terms of personal connections with each other and with Shepard. See this thread where I discuss it.

Rather than complain about Liara having too much screentime why not argue that all of the other characters should have had as much as her?

Shes a writers pet in terms of attention and inability to die perhaps.

I hate her more than everyone but Jacob though, so its not like she got spoiled with awesomeness like Garrus/Wrex do (my personal favorite characters).

Quite frankly shes annoying, creepy, boring and ugly as sin.

Yup. And for me it was already this bad from the start in ME1.

I actually got the impression Javik connected more with Liara than anyone else. The rest of the crew doesn't seem to have any special connection with her.

Liara is the Shadow Broker, a prothean expert and possibly the only surviving ME1 character.

This makes her kind of important.

I think emotionally she's just very unstable. All of her 'types' have origins in some sort of damage.

ME 1 she starts off as unsure, shy, resentful of her mother, develops into being still shy, but co-dependent on Shepard if he's the LI and mourning her mother.

ME 2 she becomes distant, detached, treats people as assets instead of individuals (foreshadowing her eligibility to be the new Shadow Broker). This most likely comes from her co-dependency with Shepard being shattered, or the fact that she's suddenly ripped away from her only constant 'friends' on the Normandy.

Becoming the Shadow Broker gives her a system where she can be both the authority, and remain anonymous and fall somewhat back into her original role as shy, and away while still treating people as assets.

In the third game she's once more ripped out of her element, and reverts back to more of her original state, but still maintains a shell of her ME 2 personality outside of that.

It's not that unrealistic.

Liara's just kinda crazy.

Personally I really don't like any Asari, besides Aethyta and Samara, at all. They all seem so goddamn perfect and boring to all get out. Liara also has the additional quality of at first being too shy to be interesting then too cold to be interesting, her voice acting is good but quite frankly I just cant stand her. I heard a rumor there was a chance Liara may die I think what I heard was a choice between VS and her in ME3. I was actually looking forward to the chance to shatter her plot armor.

Liara...wasn't she the Prothean expert that stayed on the Normandy in the first game while Wrex, Garrus and Shepard ran around outside saving the galaxy? I remember there was this blue chick we saved early and just told us what we found after each mission.

The only people who like Liara are some Shepards and Javik.  And Javik costs you 10-20 dollars.

Seriously, no one really likes Liara in the game.  At most Garrus will have a conversation with her about the old days.  But Garrus, Javik, and Vega hang out and shoot the breeze.  Javik and Vega hang out telling jokes.  Garrus and Vega hang out.  Tali and Javik hang out.  Vega and Tali hang out off camera.  Vega and Esteban are always hanging out.  EDI is always hanging out with some members of the regular crew.  Garrus and Eve get a little long-range flirt thing going on.  Wrex and Eve make babies.  Tali and the entire Engineering crew are friends.  Tali and Garrus can hook up.

Wrex and Joker make fun of her over the intercom and Garrus shares a drink to reminisce but no one really wants to hang out with her.

The only people characters seem to like less are Ashley.  But even she gets plastered with the regular crew while Liara hides in her room.

Weird. I don't see hate threads about any other LI. People must really be jealous that Liara has the best romance.

There is one clear reason Liara is a writers pet, she simply cannot no matter what you do die untill the end of ME 3 and then you still cannot actually see her die. EVERY other character that is not introduced in ME 3 such as Vega can die at least once in a way that you are 100% sure they died. Even shepard has less plot armor than Liara since Shepard ALWAYS dies once and possibly twice.

It's the fact that a lot of the romances are hand waved away and it feels like your being punished for not picking her.

Did anyone notice that Liara's eye twitch(If thats what you want to call it) is gone? I thought it was a cute flaw, but now she doesn't have it. I guess they really wanted her to be perfect.

This. On top of that, the ME2 romances got utterly shafted.
