Liara definitely got more love than other ME characters, there's no doubt about that. Supposedly, the devs put emphasis on her because they saw a huge support for her from the fanbase -- but, honestly, I think the devs just loved her. Good thing I don't find her annoying.. hah.

Liara: So, Shepard, you loved Ashley. Where does that leave us?

Shepard: Let's just be friends.

Liara: Oh, okay...

Liara, later: So, Shepard, I really care about you. How are you feeling? Can I get you a cup of tea?

Shepard: Uh. So, about that intel you gathered.

Liara: Oh, yeah, in a second. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am that you came to visit me, Shepard. Do you need anything else? A back massage maybe?

Shepard: No...thanks. You know, how about I just ask Glitch? Cool? Cool.

Liara: I made you a present, Shepard. Sit down on the couch with me and I'll show it to you. I want you to know how wonderful I think you are.

Shepard: You're very nice too, Liara. Very nice.

Liara: It's just...in Asari years, I'm barely more than a child [ed. -- Her words exactly!!!!] and I'm out here all alone. I just think it's important that people connect with somebody.

Shepard: Yeah. Uh, I need to do some readiness exercises on the bridge, just write whatever you want about me. Peace.

Seriously, Bioware, it just got creepy after a while.

EXACTLY!

There's also that moment on Earth where she shares some vision with you, which had Shepard thinkin',"Oh. Well, that was kinda cool. Glad we're friends." Then, Liara caresses Shepard like they're lovers, even though she wasn't my love interest. WT*, Bioware?

This. On top of that, the ME2 romances got utterly shafted.

OH GOD ALL THESE THINGS!

I agree with everything above this and hell I even romanced her. I am uterly scared ****less of whats going to happen in my next game when I pick Ash over her because she goes from cute to creepy very quickly.

I don't have anything against Liara, but I definitely don't find her as interesting as a lot of characters in the game. I guess the game has to have a couple core characters that get more attention and are more plot crucial than others. If it was someone else in her place, people would complain about that too.

I do find her a little... pushy at points. But I think she's usually just trying to be nice. Out of all the characters/squad, the game makes it pretty clear she cares for you the most, besides your LI if it isn't her.

To be honest you could apply equal amounts of that criticism at Garrus...Hell who DOESNT like Garrus by the end of the game? Even Javik doesn't dislike the guy. He goes through an equally rapid change in character (and by "Rapid" we are talking about a two year gap) and you simply cannot dislike him, even renegade Sheps get the "best friend" talk.

I found Liara's arc pretty believable considering the change didn't occur after shep died, it occured during them battling Saren - Lets not forget that a shy Archaeologist ended up fighting right in the middle of one of the biggest battles in the history of their entire civilization...that's enough to "battle harden" anyone.

In the Two year gap I found her transition from being a battle hardened Archaeologist to a battle hardened information dealer trying to find the illusive man to being a battle hardened illusive man fairly believable.

In short, I don't think she's a writers pet anymore than any of the other characters.

Ah, but you see, Liara can't be spelled without Liar.

So her word really doesn't mean anything.

Besides, of COURSE she would say she's a virgin.

What actually was going on back in ME1 was she was having "cross-species intercourse" with all the geth that were supposedly "after" her. Then she turned down their leader, so he got ticked off, and now they're all trying to kill her.

Garrus isn't a writer's pet, at least not on the level of Liara. Any players who don't like him can simply not recruit him in ME1, and then kill him off in ME2 so he won't be in ME3. Liara CANNOT BE KILLED. Or avoided for that matter.

It's less that she changed and more that the writersexpect you to be in a romance with her and she acts like she is even if your not.

I hate to use the term, but I am starting to wonder if it is actually true. She shows a lot of traits common to one anyway. She has no real flaws that I can really notice. Everyone but Javik seems to be in love with her (and Javik is wrong for not liking Liara) and even a hardcore renegade Shepard is forced to be her friend by Mass Effect 3.

Then there is the unrelastic and weird character development she undergoes, that just seems forced to keep her relevant to the plot. Unlike, say Wrex or Mordin who have more believeable development, and grow as characters in a natural and organic way. But not Liara. She starts as a Prothean expert, and is kind of shy. Cool. Then she is suddenly a cold, emotionless information broker out of nowhere, and then. She is the most powerful information broker in the galaxy. That is a huge leap, and it is very hard for me to believe that a character that was a shy and awkward archelogist just two years previous is now one of the most powerful people in the galaxy. I know about the comic, and even then. It is still a huge leap that the shy and awkward archelogist did all of that.

Ah, screw it. Nobody has read this far. At this point you are all hammering the reply button to yell at me. So let's just talk about who is going to be eaten first on plothole planet. I think it will be Joker. Look at him. He's the weakest, and also has brittle bones. Bones that will be less of a choking hazard when everyone (excluding Garrus or Tali who cannot eat Joker) have to cook him. EDI? What's EDI going to do? I bet she can't beat a rock upside the head. That's how you beat technology. Shepard. Rocks. And kicking. Vega kicked the **** out of that console and, you know what? IT WORKED. Maybe if you kicked the Catalyst or something we wouldn't have had those endings!

Because it would've been too perfect for us.

Liara was never a pet IMO after everything she did to help you get to Ilos in ME1.

When Shepard died in ME2 and she recovered the body and kept mourning Shepherd for two years this is probably the only part of the game she was spoiled as she mentioned after Matriarch Benezia death shes with Shepard all the way to the end and after Shepard death she was lost without him.

Shepard got killed, Normandy destroyed it doesn't matter how you treated her Paragon/Renegade, LI/Just friends she never gave up on him and she got his body back from the Shadow Broker that was in "ME - Redemption".

I can't believe I'm saying this but i actually felt guilty for dying and leaving her alone with all this.

If there was someone to blame it was the Alliance, they took the team apart and sent each one of them on a different ways.

Things on Liara's side were different she was only 106  just little more than a child in asari terms and as she also mentioned she spent the last 40 years doing nothing but studying the Protheans all alone by herself.

Whatever happened after she got Shepard's body back to Cerberus was a little rough for her that little child was exposed to the Terminus system the worst part of the galaxy where she had to survive and look for her friend Feron.

Some people think there is something between the two of them but there never was he got kidnapped before things developed further between them to be more than just friends.

In the two years the lazarus project took to revive Shepard Liara became one of the best and most famous information brokers on illium.

However she managed to get to that it wasn't easy and this is where i think she got spoiled or probably she had to cross the line to reach things that she couldn't

A proof to my theory when you visit her on on illium for the first time if you romanced her in ME1 you'll be able to kiss her. She couldn't continue with the kiss and she couldn't look Shepard in the Eye.

Everytime Shepard was out of the game Liara was the one to take control and try to do what he/she would've done.

1- Remember first time you met her when she mentioned the extension cycles even before the Protheans in ME1
2- Her help understanding the Protheans visions from the beacon and reaching Ilos.
3- Her support when the Alliance grounded normandy for the first time to stop you from pursuing saren into the Terminus.
4- Mass Effect 2 and her role in Mass Effect -
Redemption to get Shepard body back.
5- Her role between the end of ME2 and the beginning of ME3
when Shepard was grounded again for two years under constant civilence she was on Mars all this time trying to figure out how to defeat the reapers.
6- The discovery of The Crucible.
7-  The time capsule in ME3 If all things failed.

Sell.. the game?

Sell the game with lies!

I wouldn't say that Liara was a pet character, but a character who made into one of the more important characters in the series. She gets a lot of focus because, well, she matters more to the story. Also, she is a guaranteed link to the first game and it's missions since she is the only squad member from Mass Effect that cannot die.

she got an unfair amount of facetime in ME3 compared to other love interests.
And am I the only one who thinks its a bit ridiculous that you can't have a human female LI/Squadmate if you don't save Ashley?
