Battle of Redcliffe

If everyone survives the night battle of redcliffe then you are awarded a special gift. I won't tell you what it is but you do get it. Now here is the problem:

If everyone survives and i mean EVERYONE you get the gift/reward.

If one person dies, even 1 militiamen you don't get the gift/reward.

Bann Teagen considers one person dieing "HEAVY LOSSES".  If you let all the militia die including murdock, lloyd, berwick, dwynn, ser perth & his knights it's still no different than losing 1 militiamen.  If you lose 1 person in the battle of redcliffe it's considered heavy losses and you don't get the special reward.

This needs to be fixed, it is 99% impossible to save all the militiamen without 1-2 healers in the group.  I don't even like using mages or healing so it's impossible for me to achieve this reward even if I'm skillful in the game.

Bottom line

Allow us to get the special gift/reward from bann teagan as long as most of the militia survives.  Just because 1 militia person dies doesn't mean I can't get a reward for the hard work in that scenario.  The best I've done with my group and the given situation is that everyone survives except 2 miltiamen.  I should still the ****g reward! :P

Ok nerd rage over.

Or, they could change the line to Losses. A reward for saving everybody wouldn't be much of a reward if you got it despite people dying. If you wish the reward, simple, raise the men's morale as high as you can by doing some stuff, explore the entire town to find stuff. Do everything you can to help the city before starting the battle. For the battle if you really want it and don't care about difficulty, drop it to casual.

I don't even like using mages or healing so it's impossible for me to achieve this reward even if I'm skillful in the game.

And?

There are a lot of achievements (as in, actual Social Network measured achievements, not just one in-game item) that are impossible to earn if you don't do things you might not like doing.

Don't want to butcher a bunch of people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time? That's one achievement you're never going to get.

Don't want to let Duncan's murderer live? That's another.

You get a special reward for keeping everyone alive. Live with it. Maybe they should give a second place award for keeping most of the people alive. It could be given you by a sobbing child. We can call it the, "I wish you were better so my daddy woulda lived" medal.

Please get the spoilers out of the NO SPOILERS forum.

Also, it's nobody's fault but your own if you refuse to use healers.

hmmm...i can think of a "special reward" my character would have liked to get from Bann Teagan...:devil:

err...anyway...what were we talking about?  Oh right, the battle!  :P

I have never really been able to get this because it always seems like at least one guy is dead before i even make it down the hill to the area in front of the chantry.  I agree it might be nice to make it a *little* bit less hardcore-ish in this part, just because sometimes due to enemy and NPC AI, some random militiaman gets overwhelmed before you can even think about healing him.

Eh, if you find all the ways to boost morale, I bet they last longer. Still can simply drop it to casual for the battle.

Hey i warn you it's not just difficult. It's not just impossible.

Hold on let me look up a word that has a stronger meaning than impossible.

Inconceivable?

It is sooo difficult that the game forces you to be a load/save w,hore which really destroys the immersion even on easy mode.

I replayed the battle several times over. To me , the undead were comming in endless waves for at least 10 minutes no end. And each undead even though it was white was strong as yellow. I know because combo of freeze+earth fist , would not shatter them. Perhaps its a bug. Because the whole sequence was insanely hard. (at lvl 11)

But there was simply no way to save militia. No possibility whatsoever.

Best i manage to do is to have 1 militia man saved :(

Difficulty: Easy mode
Troop Status: MAXIMUM MORALE, max armor, max benefits

I did everything I possibily could to boost the morale of all the troops. I got every npc to help fight.   I have 3 in coersion too.

My group
- Alistair
- me
- leilana
- dog

By the time I get down to that fight there is always 1 person at 1%-10% life who just drops dead at my arrival.  No matter what you cannot save everyone unless you have morrigan healing which is absurd anyways.  You have to have a healer which is very absurd to force upon someone who plays RPGs.   I've played tons of rpgs where my party didn't have to rely on a mage or a healer.

I understand making something difficult, challenging, hard. But impossible is where I draw the line.

What difficulty? My warrior on normal lost the named knight and 2 others, not many militiamen though.

Rogue on easy (cause he's a lol char mainly for achievements, deleting him anyway) Got everybody to live on casual, I used every way to get morale up insanely high before the battle, and did all the tricks in pre-battle prep.

Yea it's very difficult. It requires 1-2 healers if you are playing on normal mode.

But having healers in your group doesn't mean you're skillful. It just means you had healers. Kind of dubm in my opinion. As someone who loves tactics in game I would much rather preferred to have control over them so I could puull them back when they are hurt.

I don't get it. I've played through the battle twice with different parties on nightmare mode and didn't lose anyone both times. I thought you got the reward no matter what. Maybe you guys having trouble aren't doing enough to boost the militia before the battle.

This part is really, really easy to the point where I'm spending most of the time just hanging around waiting for the next wave since the last wave lasted all of 5 seconds.

Do you start with the knights, or with the militia? I'm curious because I would like to save everybody when I redo my warrior to fix other campaign choices. (Redcliffe will be the first stop).

This, just this.

It doesn't matter that you wrote (spoiler) in your thread title. It clearly states Dragon Age: Origins General Discussion (NO SPOILERS ALLOWED) !!!

Oh, whatever.  DA:O is not one of those RPGs.  Guess what?  You need someone dealing damage, too.  It's absolutely ridiculous that I can't get by with a group of all healers that just heal!  This is absurd!

Also, register the game and post in the spoilers forum.  We don't like pirates, here.
