I've played a bit of each of the origins, but the only one I've completed is the Dalish one. Based upon what I've played of the others, Dalish is my favorite.

Huh? Leske never betrayed me in my playthrough of dwarf commoner.

I guess that depends on whether or not you pick the dialogue option when you first meet him that determines whether or not he's just your partner in crime, or if you two are having a bromance. Me, I started out with 'Leske! How's it shaping, m'man?' and just laughed it off every time he hit on my sister, and he was my loyal buddy throughout the whole origin.

Or is this something that happens when you do the main Orzammar quest sequence later?  I haven't gotten that far as dwarf commoner.

I've played through most often as a Human Noble because the impetus to keep going to get to Howe and Loghain is the longest burn.

When I played Dwarven Noble, I can go right back to Orzammar and resolve that story right then.

Dalish seems...disconnected, the tribe you return to isn't even your own and other than Tamlen showing up at camp (which kicked my ass) there's not so much to the story for you other than "I'm not dead because of the Grey Wardens"

City elf is HARSH and gives you lots of hate to ride through to the Alienage sequence.

Mage tower is a good story and I loved the Harrowing. But I genuinely hated the Circle and the phylacteries and didn't want to particularly save anybody there, I just wanted to GET OUT and it was hard to step back in voluntarily.

So Human Noble seems to give me the most impetus all the way through to Landsmeet and then...well, I'm right there, might as well end the blight, it'll only take a little bit of time after coming all this way...

But there were several stories that I resolved that particular character's motivation and then...ran out of steam.

The only one I've tried so far is the Mage origin (I'm playing it right now) and I have no complaints. I actually think the origin ties in quite well with the rest of the game--after all, it turns out Jowan plays quite a major role in the story...

My favorite plot point with regards to the origin is probably Cullen's crush on my female mage.

There are little moments like that to each Origin, making them worth playing through.  I still end up pulling tissues out of boxes when you find little touches out in the world that are different for each origin.

I think Cullen's awesome.

dwarf noble- it also seems to be the longest. political intrigue, duelling in the proving, deep roads actions. What more do you want? (besides dlc gear :))

My favorites (in no particular order):

female City Elf

human Noble

Dwarven commoner (Leske never betrayed me either)

I didn't like:

Mage origin (Harrowing was fun, did NOT like the Jowan quest)

Dalish Elf (I wanted to KILL Tamlen myself for wanting to wander into the ruins)

Mage is my favorite, as far as story goes.

I only just recently did the Dwarf Noble origin, I played it good but my god I'm going to have to go back and be a royal ass with all the options it gives you to go that direction looks way too hilarious not too.

I didn't like the Dalish one. It felt tacked on, you visit the same forest section and ruin twice, you never find out what happened to your buddy and exactly what happened to you for that matter. It was the complete opposite of the mage origin. I felt connected to my character after the mage one, it was so involved and the main "decision" actually affected me.

I really wanted the antagonist's motivation fleshed out more so I felt a little disappointed.

I'll agree with the majority the Dwarven Noble and Dalish Elf were pretty good.  I wish I could've been guilty of my crimes though...

I think I would've made a deal with the Pride Demon if that was an option.  I totally didn't see that coming and I wish the harrowing had been a little more insidious.

Still playing through them. Seems that the origins change things during the game.

I agree with Bhatair.. Dalish elf story felt pretty half-assed to me. Dwarf and Human noble origins were the best for me; I felt like they were the most emotionally powerful. The feeling of complete helplessness really sucks. I haven't done a complete Dalish elf playthrough, but I get the feeling you never see your own clan again or figure out what happened to Tamlen. And WTF was up with that mirror? "Here, this is a random mirror in some ruins that magically appeared out of nowhere. If you touch it it eats you! We don't know where it came from, but, uh, well, it's destroyed and we're leaving now. Also, you can't come with us." ....

Both the Dwarf Origins are brilliant. Anybody who does not play one simply because they do not like dwarves is really missing out IMO.

Human Noble

+Ties in very nicely with the main story line, particularly towards the end.

+Puppy quest <3

+The betrayal scenario felt believable. The revenge later when you chop a certain noble's head off in vengeance was also powerful, particularly the "that's it?" emptiness of it afterwards. Like the real deal. I would have liked to have seen an option to be a bad warden and go for vengeance first instead of it happening naturally over the course of the main story.

+I liked the characters

+Recruitment into the Grey Wardens made more sense than other origins.

+Potential power play at the end-game (becoming king/queen)

-Short

-You don't seen anyone from your origin later in the game

-You don't ever return to Highever later in the game, tying back to having the option to want to get vengeance first instead of going after treaties. I hope they add a DLC for Highever. Retaking your Teyrnir would be awesome.

-Fergus, if you're going to be worthless and not show up until the end-game, you might as well have just died. Seriously, my PC didn't do all that work so you can go back and claim Highever for yourself you lazy ****. Except when I died, then it's all good, no worries bro.

Mage:

+Harrowing

+Decent starting stuff

-Lily + Jowan Quest

-No good reason to join the Wardens if you side with Irving

Dwarven Noble:

+Explains a LOT of the behind the scenes stuff going on in Orzammar

+Cutthroat politics

-Cutthroat politics that are captain obvious
