In response to this and the people that claim it's a vocal minority, can someone work some Youtube magic on this? I think it's very pertinent.

EDIT: Ironically enough I just realized that Insurrection is related to the children rebelling against their parents. Just a side note.

Wow, oops. Totally meant to hit edit on the first one. Now I look like I'm talking in third...type, text...? Blast.

don't rage, let it flow over you like water over a rock, he is just another nay-sayer, possibly paid by EA, but either way, his firm has strong interests on the business side of things, he is biased.
Stay Civil, Don't burn out, take a break and come back in a few days, and above all else, hold the line, we will have our endings.

This is also the guy that said Nintendo should price the 3DS a 300 dollars because 250 was too cheap.

Meh, it seems as if he feeds off of sensationalism. If what I looked up was accurate he was complaining about how the Nintendo Wii will fail some years back.

I'd ignore him.

If you read the quotes he never actually said the words very small minority. At the minute theres nothing official to suggest its anything other than a minority, yeah theres the 50k facebook members or whatever but the game sold over 3 million so 50k is still a minority. Bioware and EA's company line is that its a minority.

To be fair, someone has probably sprung the question on him and he hasn't fully researched it. By looking at places like IGN it comes across as a vocal minority and from the outside his comment is fair enough. If they did cave to a minority it would be bad for future business. However if we can prove that its the majority or a big enough minority of the fanbase that hated the endings then that situation changes dramatically.

Raging when somewhere like IGN makes an ill informed video or obviously inflammatory piece for hits is fair enough. But I think its unfair to expect everyone who gets asked about the situation in an interview to have an insiders understanding of the situation. He could have given those quotes last week when media spin was still largely burying the issue.

Another pathetic attempt by gaming industry to claim our protest means nothing. This just shows the fear that the industry can't control us like they thought they could. Michael Pachter believes in anything he wants to and could care less about reality.

That was my first thought. Then, does he even own a computer and know how to turn it on? But I'd also say there's a big difference between someone who just played ME 3 once, compared to people who have multiple plays on the whole series.

It would be the height of irony if EA send him a free copy of ME 3.

Vocal minority...yeah right. I'd put money that for every one of us that has joined the movement, or made donation, or joined the facebook page, there are at 4-5 who hate it and haven't said anything.

Can you say paid off?

Hold the line for as long as it takes.

Mr. Pachter clearly failed his customer relations courses, his public relations courses, and his statistical analysis courses.

If more than fifty thousand people are telling you your product is bad, within two weeks of release, AND they're motivated enough to take the time to express their dissatisfaction, you can be confident in betting that there are a lot more that are dissatisfied but quiet as they write off your company as a provider of goods and services.

Estimates of vocal complainers (those who take action) versus the quiet ones that you never know that you've lost as a customer, range between one in nine and one in twenty seven. The studies that produce these numbers are reputable and tracked in professional public relations journals; nearly every PR firm out there has run studies like this.

Keep that in mind. For those fifty thousand who are actively complaning, there could be another four hundred thousand to one million, three hundred thousand, who are quietly disgusted by an inferior product.

Mass Effect has sold maybe two million copies. That means anywhere from a quarter to three fifths of your players dislike Mass Effect 3's ending.

That's not a "vocal minority". That's a serious business problem.

"Mass Effect 3 is the highest-rated game of the year and one of the highest-rated games ever", Pachter pointed out. "That means that objective reviews think it is just fine, making repercussions highly unlikely."

Wait, what?!  I'm begging anyone to find me a single objective review of any game that's been released in the past 10 years.  Does he even know what objective means?!

By their very nature, game reviews are completely subjective.  They are prone to the reviewers biases, past experiences and tastes.  To state otherwise is an utter fallacy.

Just to tidy up the question of who Michael Pachter is, he's a financial analyst covering the video game industry and a pretty common face around GameTrailers.com, having his own show, Pach Attack, and appearing with frequency on Geoff Keighley's Bonus Round.

He's actually a rather likable guy, but just remember that being an analyst, it's his job to give his opinion on the industry as much as possible, even if it's a snap judgment. This isn't a shot at him or his profession, it's just that successful financial analysts tend to be the ones who are willing to give assessments that prove completely wrong than not give assessments at all.

It's been awhile since I've watched him, but I remember plenty of predictions of his that never panned out, such as various specifics on Wii-HD or major commercial success of The Saboteur. It's just the nature of the business.

Hmm. What I would be most interested in is his stock portfolio — the better to see what his financial stakes are in matters such as these.

You're absolutely right. He says vocal minority - not "very small minority."

"There will be no impact on Electronic Arts as a company unless they
cave to the vocal minority and create an alternate ending," suggested
Pachter.

First off guys, try to keep it civil. Remember that WHENEVER you post publicly you represent ALL of us, whether you like it or not. Swearing at this guy on this forum and insulting him is only going to hurt our message, image, and impact.

Second expect this thread to get locked, it's highly off topic for this forum.

Third, again, please stop bashing this guy in the way it's been going on. He's been wrong consistently in the past, and this is no different. Take it and move on, please.

You guys have no idea who this guy is? He very respected in some circles, some big circles. The responses in this thread highlight the problem this retake mass effect 3 movement faces. The very responses in this thread are a thorn in the movements side. Do some reseaechand you'll see that if he is remotely correct, then we have a problem. Just stick to rallying people to the cause and that's a better use of your time and energy, not finding every post and site that says anything contrary to the movement.

When are people gonna learn??
