Michael Pachter is well known by anyone who's a serious gamer and he's trusted by many to give out useful information, he's even predicted some thigns prior to coming to the market. I agree with him. Those complaining are the minority and all that matters is the reviews, they hold more weight than a few angry fans

And predicted wrongly 10 times more things than he predicted correctly. He ain't "know it all". And frankly, by insulting gamers, he doesn't really give his opinion on this matter much credibility. And as cool and knowledgable as he is on most gaming matters, when it comes to "publishers vs gamers" he's very biased

Pachter is amazing, and he's a buisnessman which makes him knowledgeable in how companies work. So, if he's saying this about you all, I would be inclined to believe it. He knows better than you how things work.

And yet Forbes, another business source, seems to completely disagree with him.  Hm.

Forbes knows nothing about the video game buisness. Pachter does.

Ah yes, just a vocal minority, we have dismissed those claims.

Seriously...take a look at EA's stock as of late. It's not doing too hot. You'd think if they had just realsed one of the best games ever/of the year it'd be at least a little higher.

I think when he is talking about a verbal minority he is referring to those who went to the FTC.

Its his opinion, you want to bash him for it?

Call him ignorant? Stupid? Go ahead hypocrites.

I think he's wrong, but whatever.

I mean its Michael, half his predictions are wrong anyways. but this is his opinion. Don't get all upset about it.

Their whole mission statement is based around hypocrocy. You think they'll act any different?

His statements directly conflict with everything I learned in business classes and studies. So no.

Also, based on polls and statistics he's also wrong.

But sure, waste time defending a person who doesn't respect you.

Poor phrasing, it seems. I read the article and if I hadn't heard from the author I'd still think he was lumping us together.

FWIW, Pachter was not taking a stance, he was simply quoting someone else.

Ok, seriously, a business analyst should understand that even if this is a minority in terms of the overall base that purchased the game, we are by far the more vocal, organized, and passionate, and that's exactly what Bioware stands to lose. No company in this industry can hope to make it to the top without a core of devoted, vocal fans.

And that settles that.

Someone please edit this into the intro before we get more insanity directed at Mr. Pachter.

Who is this Pachter guy? An EA crony?

A guy who makes a lot of predictions about the gaming market. Glad this seemed to be a misquote though.

Forbes covers many aspects of the business world. That makes them more than qualified to cover this mess.

I put more trust in Forbes (whom I'm a regular reader of) than one of many half-assed video game "journalists".

Doubt it. he was kind enough to post a clarification, and I did what I could - I replied to let him know I'd posted his response here.

Do you really think there is much distinction?  This level of outcry, regardless of industry, is bad for business.

Besides, I'm very familiar with Pachter's comments.  Most of the time he just states the obvious.  Have a look at what he said about January game sales.  He makes the completely obvious statement that game sales would be low.  Considering how very few games came out in January, and the biggest names in those releases (Soul Calibur and Final Fantas) didn't come out until January 31, anybody could tell that sales would be low.

In order for his opinions to be valid.. he really needs to state if he or his company is in a postion or plans to initiate a position with EA (i.e. buy/sell EA stock)... or if he has some sort of business relationship (i.e. partnership/consulting) with them.

Also, judging by his twitter feed..I find his mastery of statistics to be lacking...which is shocking for someone who claims to be a securities analyst.

Didn't read the article, but on his twitter account, he says

"I said people complaining to FTC are a vocal minority."

Is this a misreading of his article, or him changing his statement?

Seems like a genuine misunderstanding. On Twitter he said that people generally complaining are the majority, and was only speaking about the FTC complaints.

Everything went better than expected.

Pachter is clueless. There's a small vocal minority who are obsessed with him though. Mostly the people obsessed with video game sales numbers.

He also thinks metacritic is the only way to judge a game's quality.
