28, and it was a sloppy, contrived, mess of an ending.

30 and unimpressed by the ending. I get they were trying to do something artistic or bittersweet. The delivery was unimpressive. There needs to be a greater sense of closure, and one cannot introduce a completely new 'villain' at the eleventh hour. Coupe that with some poor dialogue at the end, and all three endings being a) unexplained by the epilogue, B) using the same video with the exception of maybe ten seconds (if you get the sucky ending) and all the same but for the colours, and c) coming way out of the middle of nowhere... Yeah.

Could I live with the endings as they are? Yes. I'd be incredibly disappointed in Bioware, though.

Quoted to say you, friend, have said everything on my mind. Not raging at the ending, but very disappointed and unimpressed.

I'm turning 27 nine days from now.

I hear ya. I'm not angry about the ending. I can get why people would be, don't get me wrong, and others have done a very good job at expressing why they are angry.

I do think that this was the ending that the writer(s?) put together. It seems like they put it together at the last minute.

I am a huge fan of the work Bioware has done. Many of my gaming buddies are also huge fans of their work. We liked to joke that Bioware has 'the Midas touch' when it comes to their gaming.

Some of those friends argued that 'it can't be that bad, because it must be Bioware up to something truly genius.' Some liked the ending.

(And by the way, I've no problems with those who do like it. I get what they were trying to do. It's my opinion, but, they simply didn't do it very well)

It's just that, to me, they executed poorly on what could have, and should have, been a much better ending. I don't need a 'happy' ending (it would be nice if that were possible, or if there was a spectrum of endings, but I'm okay with 'bittersweet'), but the current endings don't make sense, are incredibly jarring, and the final 5 minutes (the convo with the Crucible, the 3 choices themselves, the final cutscenes) have numerous issues.

From the evidence I don't think it was indoctrination. I don't think it was a clever attempt by Bioware to 'do something awesome.' I think it was a simple collapse at the finish line, and I'm disappointed that a company that has consistently provided such excellent story-telling would put out an ending such as this, and be surprised that so many were upset about it.

Perhaps off topic:

Regarding the 'it's art' rebuttals: Movies are art. Movies are screened to audiences prior to release, in order to provide quality control, and editing happens to ensure flow. When it is done well, it creates a good movie. When it is done poorly, it creates jarring, incoherent messes. Books are art. When books are written, they are often savagely edited by publishers and editors to ensure they turn out well and are marketable. Music is art. Bands are always playing with their music post-release, in concert.

Video games, especially games like Mass Effect, are art, too. And there's nothing wrong with tweaking a game to improve it, any more than there is with tweaking a book or a movie to improve it. If Ridley Scott can do it with his movies, Bioware can do it with Mass Effect.

49 and completely disgusted with the ending. I don't buy the "art" argument either. The Mass Effect novel Deception was art as well and had to be changed because of egregious errors in continuity. If anything, this should have given BioWare a clue that the fans were watching and would not tolerate an inconclusive ending that leaves you wondering what the hell just happened.

I want the ending to make sense and to preserve what I was fighting for or at least to give me a damned good reason why trillions of people have to die or be re-purposed..

I'm 32, and I think current ending is terrible and illogical. BioWare should make the perfect ending DLC.

39, ending was epically bad. Lazy, poorly written deus ex machina, utterly derivative and unoriginal, completely tone deaf and deeply unsatisfying. Also, rendered every action I ever took as meaningless. Outside of that I loved it.

I'm 30, and I feel it was a straight up insult to the preceding games in the manner that it threw everything portrayed thus far out the window in favor of some poorly supported, nonsensical conclusion that left the player with far more questions than answers. It was objectively bad writing, when considering the plot devices and the destruction of the suspension of disbelief that that is necessary for a work of fiction to remain valid.

im 20, the endings are absolutely horrifyingly bad for a mass effect game.
