Look at this cliche Hollywood ending, is that what you want for Mass Effect?

Mass Effect 1 & 2 had triumphant amazing endings that made you feel proud. That's what mass effect is all about it.
This, so very much.

THIS is what we're fighting for (at least one of the possible outcomes).

We need to create more plot holes!

Sovereign explodes in 3 different colours.
The video cuts at 1:04 and then plays a scene of the Normandy crash landing on a jungle planet and the crew with you in the citadel getting out.
Shepard is then shown taking a breath. In rubble.

There is a worrying trend that is developing in the games sector, that trend being the idea that a story has to be dark, or end on a bittersweet ending in order for it to be a good story/ending.
Thats completely wrong, YES, some element of sacrifice can help improve the overall flow of a story, like the death of kaiden/ashley on virmire, however it shouldn't be at the end, and the sacrifice has to mean something. You don't need a bittersweet ending in order to have a good ending, sure, everything working out in the end is a cliche, but there is a reason its a cliche, BECAUSE PEOPLE LOVE IT! People love seeing all their hard work, all their effort in doing the best possible playthrough they could pay off. That is the whole point of the journey. Sure, the protagonist makes sacrifices along the way, so that we can get the uplifting ending in the finale.
Shepard sacrificing himself to save the galaxy was never an ending people disliked the idea of, but it was the way he sacrificed himself and the result of his sacrifice that made people angry.

I Mean really Why were the two crew I took into the battle still there and not racing off somewhere else
not caring if I lived or died
Now that would be a great ending

But anyways, it's a plothole! How could Sovereign suddenly occupy Saren's body?! I suggest we call the CSIS right now.

Honestly, if it wasn't set for a trilogy I would prefer Shepard to stay dead there in ME1.

He assumed direct control.

I mean really, it has an outright victory. It has triumphant music. It has the hero rising from the ashes in a completely cliche manner.
This is not what Mass Effect is about, Mass Effect is dark and grim. Happy endings have no place in this very dark and utterly not inspiring universe.

And now you can see why Mass Effect cannot have happy endings ever.
Its not about a happy ending, its about an ending that makes SENSE. and mass effect 3 didn't have that. Its about the fact that we were told our choices matter, when they really didnt or barely did. Its about being told that we will get 16 different endings and then we didn't.
As for the mass effect 1 ending, tbh when i played it and i saw the end i was sure, my character had just died there and while I would have been very sad about it, I wouldn't have minded because that can happen. But i didn't mind a happyending at all, I don't mind if its being cliche, as long as it doens't leave open plotholes. I don't mind dark endings either, but I just want something that makes sense and gives me closure. Happy ending or not, if it makes sense and gives me what was promised, I wouldn't complain either way.
