Look at this cliche Hollywood ending, is that what you want for Mass Effect?

This is one of the best endings of a game in my opinion. You defeat Saren and Sovereign and save the galaxy from immediate Reaper invasion. Everyone starts politicing and Shepard just walks off to do what no one else can do: Stop the reapers. The lead into M4 part 2 still gives me chills.

I share your opinion. ME1's ending never gets old, and still gives me chills.

Happy endings have no place in this very dark and utterly not inspiring universe.

You know how I know you still live with your mom?

Nice post OP, I don't get why adding the option of an "everything's worked out (by the skin of our teeth)" ending be so awful? If you didn't want that ending you could just pick a different one...

I mean really, it has an outright victory. It has triumphant music. It has the hero rising from the ashes in a completely cliche manner.
This is not what Mass Effect is about, Mass Effect is dark and grim. Happy endings have no place in this very dark and utterly not inspiring universe.

And now you can see why Mass Effect cannot have happy endings ever.

I would have been fine with dark and grim. It was not dark and grim. It was unlogical, confusing and stupid.

What I expected in terms of movies:

"Gladiator" or "300" ending

What we got:

"Matrix" or "Lost" ending

This is the end of Shepard's story as far as I am concerned it should have a bunch of ways it ends depending on the choices you make... through ME 1, ME 2 and ME 3

Including a happy ending in which Shepard lives and retires to carefree life with his LI, but that has nothing to do with why ME 3 needs a new ending.

I could care less if Shepard dies at the end as long and it is well writen and makes sense. As it is now that is not the case and you can read this article to get and idea of what I am talking about. www.gamefront.com/mass-effect-3-ending-hatred-5-reasons-the-fans-are-right/

or watch this video www.youtube.com/watch which also points out some of the promise BioWare made that was not keep.

I agree it's not a dark ending.  Least the one I got.

It's not about happy or sad or whatever ending... My complaint is about having an ending at all. A decent ending that does not insult my intelligence, my time and money invested... a conclusive ending with options as it had to be. Not somethign gotten out of the devs sleeves.. and taddaa!!! there you have! An ending!

If you start a project in a certain way/fashion you must always finish it with at least the same quality... but usually you must end it better. Thats a premise in everyone life. If you fail to do so.. then you risk to loose credibility!

I just remember having a huge grin on my face when Shepard appears from the rubble and I can't see how that's anything but a good thing.

Also, the comments on that video are hilarious.

If it was one of the options, yes, I'd like that actually. Then I'll replay the game and sabotage my choices like I did in ME2, so I can fail on such an epic level that only 1-2 squadmates survived.

Then I'll replay it again to see how Shepard falls off Normandy at the last minute.

CHOICES. It's MULTI COLOURED EXPLOSION MAGIC.

I like happy endings so it doesn't bother me. Writers 99% of the time mess up stuff when they feel they have to kill someone, it should be in the flow of the story not just because....uh we should kill this guy. + this type of game you should get what you want, if you want a sadistic a lot of death ending you can get it, if you want happy you can get that. Your choice, put in the work if you want it happy. On insanity I didn't find it the bad, my Shep would have made it, + the reapers red laser is slow, I can dodge that in my sleep. I've seen worse.

Where the hell does people get the idea that the mass effect universe is dark and grim? It has ALWAYS been a story of hope and beating the odds. Certainly the threat of the reapers, and what happens is dark and grim. But Shepards story in this univers has been about beating the odds, hope. Defying the impossible etc.

Yeah I dont get the dark thing either.  Seen WAY darker stuff that makes this series not in comparison.  I think its cool Sci-fi with the possibility to be right there with Star trek and Star Wars in the right hands.

Regarding the endings, I heard CDProjekt are releasing a new ending for The Witcher 2, so why would BioWare do the same?

Are some people still not getting it? I thought the verbal redundancy and the link was a dead giveaway man.

hah. This is such an epic fail! There's no space magic, and they didn't even give us choices like A, BC.
And bunnies winnie the pooh mickey mouse sunshine etc are in it so that it looks like Disney land!

but still it's way better than choosing A, BC forced by that space kid.
