Look at this cliche Hollywood ending, is that what you want for Mass Effect?

was about to totally rage after clicking the link for a second until I realized you were obviously joking.  :P

Because, as we all know, Bioware has always told stories with very grim endings, with absolutely no deviation of choice, beside color changes:

Well, the endings weren't really that different before from playthrough to playthrough, either.

I mean really, it has an outright victory. It has triumphant music. It has the hero rising from the ashes in a completely cliche manner.
This is not what Mass Effect is about, Mass Effect is dark and grim. Happy endings have no place in this very dark and utterly not inspiring universe.

And now you can see why Mass Effect cannot have happy endings ever.

At least it's not an ending utterly contrived and it makes narrative sense.  The ending for ME3 was garbage.

I don't think it's the dark nature of the ending that bothers people. It's the plotholes that lead to a not very "definitive" ending. I mean...we've been chasing the reapers for how many years, and we really don't even know if they are defeated or not.

I think its pretty obvious at this point that as far as happy and sad endings go, most people want a wide range of outcomes.

Its no wonder Bioware is abandoning the norms of RPGs when people seem to hate options so much.

Seriously think you are missing the point here...

It is a dig at all the people claiming the game HAS to end in a certain way, as opposed to give options

Indeed, I'm simply pointing out how fallacious the whole grimdark argument is.
Give us our happy, our bad and our bittersweet (there IS a difference between bad and bittersweet, BioWare) endings, all have merit. To deny one is foolish.

Lame, it doesn't even have red, blue, or green endings.

It was lacking in destroying the mass relays in every star system. Who cares about anything you've ever done when you cause genocide on a galactic scale.

Ha, very nice.

This reminds me of a couple of weeks ago, there was one guy who had a thread trying to convince us that the ending was some kind of deep artistic message about the futility of life and whatever.  Somebody said something along the lines of, "Why can't I just have an ending where I shoot a reaper in the face with a big gun?"  And the guy had the balls to say that that would be completely out of step with the narrative.  It would completely ruin the tone of the series if it ended with Shepard shooting something with a big gun.

I tried to gently remind him that both of the previous Mass Effect games ended wth Shepard shooting something big in the face with a gun (a big one too if you had the forethought to bring the Cain with you in ME2).

Damn, I love me some ME1. I'm casually playing through it again now but all I can think about is the pointlessness of it all.

Pfft... not enough mass relay explosions. And where are the palette swaps? What is this, 2007?

I remember laughing a little to myself while this ending played. Yeah it was slightly cheesy but...it was still awesome and I might have had a tear or two. Man...Mass Effect was so inspiring.

Seriously, even though I /know/ what happens, I still get chills when they're looking for Shep and everyone looks at where the leg fell. Their faces are all 'oh crap'! and I'm like 'nuuuuu'! And then Shep comes out and it's like 'yay!'. Still. After 10+ playthroughs.

YES. That is what I want for ME3.

This is just perfect. I think I'm just going to link this thread to the next moron who b*tches about us wanting a happy ending. Well done, Angry One.

If only it was victorious and uplifting like the ending in Mass Effect 3 was.

I know, right? Good thing ME 3 had the ending it did, or there probably would have been a massive uproar over how cliche the ending was.

You want the war against the massed forces of Reapers to end the same way the battle against a single one did?

But the end of ME3 is Art!

Which is why we can't have nice things. Or endings. Of any kind.

how DARE they ruin this grim, dark, clearly not about overcoming-the-odds-game, with a happy triumphant ending
