Look at this cliche Hollywood ending, is that what you want for Mass Effect?

Two simple points.

1.) The demand for an ending "change" is not because we want it to be "happy". Would some like that choice? Yes.

2.) We don't want the game "patched". We would like additional DLC that gives us options for different endings. That way those that enjoy the pile of trash that currently exists aren't affected.

why do people keep on saying bunnies and rainbows for ending? The point is to have those OPTIONS as endings. Not to have 7 endings where the only thing that changes are the colors.

Or this

DA:O ending was awesome, the variation was amazing too. I LOVED that game.

You've read what the lead designer (I think it was) of DA:O had to say on ME3's endings?
Basically how effort should be rewarded and grimdark is not "art" in so many words. That's why DA:O succeeded where ME3 failed. He was out to give the players a worthwhile experience, while ME3 had to have some weird arthouse message tacked on at the end.

Hey remember that throne room scene from Star Wars IV? So cliche.

Would've been better if we never saw Luke's X-Wing leave the Death Star and the Millennium Falcon crash landed on some random garden world. But the trick is? You get to choose what color the Death Star explosion is. Oh and R2-D2 and C3PO have to die to stop the Empire. Sorry. I hope Bioware already forwarded these revisions to Georgy Boy for the next special edition release.

Man I remembered when Mass Effect was this childish. I wish Shepard would have just stayed buried under that pile of rubble instead of walking out all triumphantly with unicorns flying over him. Then, instead of choosing a new councilor and resolving to stop the Reapers we could have a 5 second scene where we see him take a breath, crushed under rubble.

Lots of speculation from everyone?

My god.

Mass Effect 2 and 3 were all...indoctrination!

How do they go from an ending that instills you with emotions of triumph to ME3?

Seriously, even though I /know/ what happens, I still get chills when they're looking for Shep and everyone looks at where the leg fell. Their faces are all 'oh crap'! and I'm like 'nuuuuu'! And then Shep comes out and it's like 'yay!'. Still. After 10+ playthroughs.

YES. That is what I want for ME3.

You want the war against the massed forces of Reapers to end the same way the battle against a single one did?

Literal much? I want an ending that causes my breath to catch in my throat and my spine to shiver, and I want to feel that rush of emotion as I watch good triumph. I want the same catharsis at the end of 3 that I felt at the end of 1.

God, that moment when Shepard comes climbing out of the wreckage is one of the best scenes in VG history.

That said, if they could rewrite it, knowing what they know now, Wrex would get crushed, Tali would get impaled, and Shepard would at least lose a limb. This original ending was just too soft. It's not dark and gritty. I should probably hate it, instead of loving it, but I'm just not a good judge of art, I guess.

Shep's squadies should have left him buried under the rubble. Caring about the friend? This is not Sesame Street people. Heroism is srs bsns.

But actually..the mass effect series has always gone with the cliche ending..

Shepard moving the rubble and showing she/he survived the battle with Saren in one, and Shepard making a dramatic leap onto the shuttle in two.

Yes there are dark moments in the series, but ultimately its more about hope and unlikely victory. Or you know..it was.

Cliche's have been around for a while for a reason, if utilized properly they can be rather effective at provoking an emotional response.

Nah, after knowing how ME2 started, they would have ended it with Shepard being dead.  It would have saved them a plot contrievance at the beginning of ME2 :).

Uh, the Mass Effect universe - even in a full Renegade playthrough - is VERY MUCH a place where hope and beauty persist. Cold sale fail.

I thought the opening of ME2 would was really well executed to be fair.

I love the sarcasm in the OP.

I love it even more that most people here are to stupid to detect the sarcasm in the OP.

But I hate it how some people still don't get it and still honestly believe that a "happy ending" = "sunshine and rainbows" and therefor bad.

I have to admit you got me OP *applause* looking at the ending of the other games is the immediate counterargument to the no happiness crowd. Why can't more people think about it and not go along with the trend?

Oh for the love of the flying spaghetti monster.

"RARARGHH TEH ENDING NOT GRIMDARK ENOUGH I WANT MORE DARKNESS!"
"GRARGH TEH ENDING NOT FEED MY NECK BEARD RARGH!"

This is just silly.
I dont want to play a game so it can beat me over the head with how "gritty" or "realistic" it is.
I want to play the hero who beats the snot out of the baddies and goes home.

Real life is angsty enough with my games smacking me in the face with that fact. If you want grim dark fine. Just dont expect everyone else to want to muck about in the filth some types seem to need a constant supply of just to exist.
