Look at this cliche Hollywood ending, is that what you want for Mass Effect?

Honestly, I was expecting a contrived plot device - a massive superweapon that we had to build and defend. I expected EMS to actually mean something in terms of the might of our defense against this implacable, overwhelming foe. I expected to have to play a near perfect 100% game (which I pretty much did, first round out) to achieve the absolute catharsis that comes from witnessing the fight against, and defeat of, impossible odds. I expected loss and I expected a real possibility that my Shep wouldn't survive (though of course I wanted her to). The only one of my expectations that was matched was the contrived plot device - though certainly, it wasn't what I *cough* expected. EMS didn't mean squat, and what catharsis I achieved from watching Shep and Anderson's dialogue was destroyed by the plot-hole filled "ending".

EMS did mean stuff.  You might not appreciate the difference.  The 'Earth gets destroyed explicitly' 'Earth gets ravaged', and then 'Earth survives' [alternatively, Earth is shown to still exist] components.  The problem being that in the range of completionists and most importers, I think you have to try to get that low of EMS.

Shepard can also survive, but that requires multiplayer currently [which is very much a problem].

As a sidenote here, I don't suggest you try it to see the variations, you'll still be largely disappointed because your problem seems more to be with the Vigil-esque exposition moment and the 'space-magic' destroying/restarting galactic civilization.

The ending isn't bad, it is however heavily underdeveloped and kind of comes out of nowhere because it is tonally different with everything prior it....

So, in other words, it's bad.

Such a good ending compared to the pile of steaming faeces that we got for ME3  :(

See that tear? That's a tear of nostalgia. Damn I miss the good old days so bad! The good old days when Mass Effect wasn't about "lots of speculation for everyone". -_-;

Goddamn I forgot how good the ending is. Still like ME2's more though...

As much as the word gets abused, I'd say that both the paragon endings for ME1 and 2 are epic.
... Or just in general regardless if it's paragon or renegade.

That ending isn't edgy enough. And where's the lack of closure for my speculation?

A bucket of LOLs for you, sir.  Well played.

That ending is almost as cliche and corny as this one!

I keep on thinking that if I click on the link I will get Rick rolled instead..

But now that I think about it, the ME3 ending was like that anyway.

Even the Wire had a more upbeat and happy ending then ME3.

Nope, but something like this inofficial chart that sets up the ending similar to ME2's in terms of consequences would be nice. http://h9.abload.de/img/jhtqyrqxxg.jpg

Edit: It's not by me. Credit where credit is due, the creator(s) had the right idea with this.

That would have been amazing to do right there.

More color and more speculation this won't do. And the Citadel needs to explode and all the Mass relays too. While we are at it let Joker run away with your crewmates and strand him on a planet somewhere.

Retake Mass Effect 1!

When I beat me3 I felt like Omar being taken out by a five year old. Talk about rediculous plot devices.

Depending of what you consider bad. I consider that it is bad as it was presented but as a basic premise standpoint I'd take it any day over a stereotypical Hollywood happy ending.

This is an extremely fine example of BioWare trying to convey all the underlying themes of the franchise at the very end, and failing spectacularly due he fact that they had presented their vision of the Mass Efrect universe as a light Space Opera up until that point.

Do I want an overused, cliche Hollywood happy ending? No. Would I prefer it to what we have? Yes. I would not complain about it, because it would bring resolution to the game.

Too many people think we just want Shepard to live, or for the galaxy to go right back to normal like the Reapers hadn't even attacked. We don't. Most of us love the idea of a bittersweet ending, but this ending is in no way, shape, or form bittersweet.

You think I don't see the variations? However, while the EMS NUMBER may have determined what flavors of snow-cones I got to eat, what exactly was the effect of the massed fleet on the outcome? Why, if I have both the geth and the quarians, is Earth more likely to exist when Shepard picks a beam? What effect does the massed armada have on the effectiveness of the red beam? Is it just more powerful because there's more life signs near its epicenter? (Also, to note, it is VERY easy to get the necessary EMS to get as far as 'Earth survives'. Barely have to bother with side mishes at all.)

Also, if you want to talk variations, I even acknowledge that there is more to each choice than color: However, they each and every one have a fatal flaw that ensures that no matter which I pick, I will not achieve catharsis because, in the end, I sacrificed too much for too little, and without any form of closure afterwards to reassure me that even though I sacrificed an entire race/free will/my own soul, it was for the right reason.

The ending to ME1 was epic, but it was also building up for the sequel. You have to experience all sides. ME3 is the ending to the darkest part of the Mass Effect series. It needs to involve more than just Shepard, it needs to show the impact on the galaxy for the choices he has made from the start. I don't really care if it is happy or bittersweet or just sad - I just want a definite end to the most epic game trilogy of all times.

If the haters got their way, then Shepard would have never made it out of that rubble. We would have never got Mass Effect 3, and that star child ending would have never happened.

Even with that ending, I'm still glad the haters didn't get their way. Hold the line!

I like how people just don't get the point of that ending either...

It was a high emotional point that simmered down once all the emotions went back to normal.

Once the Reaper fleet came along, you saw just how screwed we actually were.

I'm a supporter of the Mass Effect 3 endings and I APPLAUD BW for taking the plunge and giving us a dark conclusion.

If any ME game ended like that movie in the link, I'd be disgusted.
