A lot of games have crappy endings. ME3 was not one of the worst I've ever seen, but it was pretty bad. ME1 and 2 had amazing endings. I only wish that I could say the same about ME3, because the game itself is amazing. It's just those last 15 minutes that ruin the whole thing. I was going to do entire playthroughs of all three games just to see how many endings I could get, but it seems that right from the start, I could only get three. :(

Not worst game, but biggest fiasco/missed opportunity. Oh yes.

EDIT:  Unless Diablo3 turns out to be a game about dancing penguins or something.

pretty much what I was going to say... but blizzard takes their time with their games... probably too much time...

It will be forgotten rather easily. I can assure that. There are so many promising things coming out between now and December, that there won't be any room for ME3.

It'll be the new Spiderman 3. People are split up about it- half is like, "It's not that bad", and the other half will be like "They ruined the story because of this and that" and Mass Effect will go down as a good trilogy with a mediocre 3rd game, and then there'll be the reboot years later, and so on.

Let's put it this way; if another game series ACTUALLY manages to screw up worse than ME3, I am never buying another game again. *Especially* if it's another one of my favorite series.

If you think about it in terms of what game goes furthest south from it's projected sales as the greatest disaster, then ME3 would probably win that award unless they can turn this ending around. Of course this is only speculation. People may still buy the game at a high pace despite the ending, or maybe BioWare knew they had a bad ending and predicted the drop in sales after costumers realized what happens in the game.

correction: the game potentially can go furthest south from its projected DLC sales.

it already hit and surpassed its projected base game  sales.

It hit and surpassed its release date and first/second week sales, but further sales are probably going to drop below their plan, and those are what I am talking about.

I still love ME1 AND 2 but ME3 is not a game i'm going to keep the ending sucks i have no reason to replay it so it's getting traded in on thursday . I'm still hopeful that DA3 will be great and i still think BioWare are great developers , and ME3 is a great game but the ending is just aweful so i'm going sell it back to gamestop.

Truef. Fun ride, but I can't myself playing it again like I would ME1 and 2. The ending is just to disappointingly boring and its not much better than ME2 anyway. The characters were much more developed in ME2 as well. Could of been just as good if they wouldn't of changed writers mid-stream and kept consistency with the storyline. What happened to Harbinger? Seemed like he was going to be the main bad guy to me.

Going to trade it so I can start paying off Diablo III before May 15th and while I still get a good trade in price. ME never had a chance for game of the year releasing the same year as Diablo.

Sure the ending sucked, but the rest of the game sure as heck didnt. There's WAY more games out there that i can point my finger to and call "Game Disaster of the Year."

This reminds me of those old historical records interviewing survivors from the Titanic. Most of them were all like, "Yeah, sure the end of the ship's journey sucked. But the journey was really amazing."

so you're saying then that this by far has been the worst game you've ever played.

No it wont be a disaster, there are too many good reviews about it and the fact that people complaining about the endings are, despite what you would think based on the number of posts on this forum, are actually in the minority.

if mass effect 3 gave a true epic ending that it deserves then it would definately win game of the year. with the terrible ending though it will win most epic fail and best way to kill a series and ruin faith in a company of all time award.

Yeah, same here. Most of my mates are indifferent about it. Then again, they haven't played the first two like I have. I guess it's the old fans that know most of the games lore that get beat with the stick on this one.

@Salis ...And the minority? You do realize that this whole thing regarding the ending has made the news right? It's the biggest uproar I've heard over a video game ending.

It was djspectre who mentioned the minority.  I agree with you, this is a huge backlash - maybe not the 91% on the poll, but it's a high percentage of 2 million people.

I can not imagine a greater game disaster than the abuse Bioware is giving its customers right now.

You are deluded. It will be right up there for game of the year and deservedly so.

Probably, plenty of gaming journalists around to shill that one.

this.

serisously reading and listening to gaming journalists and i cannot help but think they're shills.

it's a great game don't get me wrong, but for anyone who gives a rats patooty about story will not give this game the GOTY.

it'll win it critically because it seems the journalists have already spoken loud and clear. but i think it will do less well when gamer popularity contest breaks out.

I got feeling that ME3 heading this way. It had everything to become game of the year, whole trilogy could have rich same fame as Baldurs Gate, KTOR,.. games that we and game industry remember even decade after they were released. Instead, inexcusable disastrous ending can make it infamous at the same magnitude – we all will remember what a wonderful game was ruined by the ending.
I feel so sad because good games are hard to find, many comes and goes but few make remember them, I played other bioware games and they were always so professionally done.
So sad . . .

No. It will not be the disaster of the year. It will be the defining disater in the history of Gaming. Sea travel has the Titanic. Air travel the 9/11 attacks. The native americans have smallpox. europeans have syphilis and the spanish bird flu. the Orient has over a thousand years of cultural advancement to make up for thanks to their isolanist policies. Gaming has ME3. Bioware will fix this, or it will fall. They have no way to escape the blockback. EA will take heat, lose money, but will probably live through this. I hope they go bankrupt. This needs to be a lesson to every corporation in the world: You do NOT own us. WE own YOU. You exist at our mercy, and fall by our whim. We will not stand for this.

What exactly did you people want from the ending? Shoot something in its special spot then press X to win? Did you want to see Shep gank and then tea bag a fleet of reapers? This game was all about story. The whole series was about story. The first game played like a movie. The second game went off the rails a bit with the cerberus/collector crap, but everything else in it was damn near perfect. ME3 took everything that came before and did an amazing job of tying it all together into a climax whose realism (relative to the setting) maintained the tone that had been set through it all. And by 'all' I mean all three games. I'm sure it left some stuff out but I can't think of any now after 42 hours without a single moment that felt like a grind. It is easily one of my favorite games of all time. Its weaving of combat and story was almost seamless and it corrected just about every game play mistake it had made over the past two games. If it doesn't win game of the year I'll be shocked. Its a ground-breaking success for the industry and for Bioware.

A journalist doesn't need to be a shill to love this game, they just need to love good games.
