I would like to make a suggestion for a possible Alternate ME3 Ending. Let me make it clear I’m under no delusions that Bioware will change or add to the endings in any way. Nor am I demanding that such a thing be done. Mass Effect is their Intellectual Property which should  be left up to their discretion. However that said I think it is in their interests that something to be done to remedy the current misgivings over the ending(s). At the very least a significant portion of the playerbase (including myself) seems to find the ME3 ending displeasing or unsatisfying.  Granted perhaps it is too late to fix, but I still think it can be salvaged with some earnest effort. Also it’s a shame to let an otherwise good game go to waste simply because of a poor ending.

With DLC being a fairly prominent feature of most retail game releases I see no reason why an Alternate Ending couldn’t be done to appease those asking  for better resolution. There is also the added bonus that those content with the ending need not obtain this DLC. Also I’m aware that I am not first to make DLC suggestions or offer my own idea of an ending. I will try to avoid actual spoilers, but since this is purely my own speculative take I believe it can be considered spoiler-free since it’s not representative of the actual game. If not feel free to move it, copy it, or spread it around. I just want ME3 to have a better ending then it does now.
:P

Anywho without further ado here it is:

“Clarity”
Discover Commander Shepard’s ultimate fate…

An unconscious Cmdr.Shepard awakes with a grasping breath in ruins. Admiral Anderson rushes over to Shepard and picks them up saying they need to keep pushing forward. Anderson slings an injured Shepard partly over his back and helps them move forward to the “Line”. (Shepard shoots any approaching Husks with a Pistol in their Left Hand.)

*You will pick up here after you beat the ME3’s current end regardless of choice. If you start a new game with this DLC this will be the ending you experience instead.

The “Line” leads them to the Citadel. Once there they find themselves in a chamber full of Human Bodies and Reaper Technology. At the center is the Illusive Man sitting in a throne of sorts obviously now under the Reapers control. However behind the Illusive Man is another partially constructed Human Reaper just like in the Collector Base.

Illusive Man

T.I.M. confronts Anderson and Shepard and explains how he has gained control of the Reapers and
will guide Humanity. However Anderson and Shepard know he has been indoctrinated at this point. Shepard can persuade T.I.M to do the right thing and end his thralldom to the Reapers with a high enough Reputation.  However even though the Illusive Man kills himself he will be revived in a manner like Saren. Anderson at this point drops Shepard and attacks T.I.M.’s Husk shooting it relentlessly, however the Husk explodes in a fiery blast sending Anderson flying. Shepard crawls over to Anderson…

-If Anderson was picked as Councilor in ME1 (Trusted) he will still be alive and talk to Shepard as he bleeds out
-If Anderson was not picked as Councillor in ME1 (Not-Trusted) he will be dead

However if T.I.M. was not persuaded he starts shooting Anderson in rage. Shepard can Renegade Interupt to
shoot T.I.M. in the head effectively killing him for good. If not Shepard falls to the ground with Anderson. T.I.M. walks over and says “You always were too weak to do what was necessary for survival Shepard.” However at this point Shepard lifts their Pistol and shoots T.I.M. multiple times till he collapses. Both T.I.M.and Anderson are dead.

Humanity

Shepard is injured and lying on the ground at this point. However Hacket calls asking Shepard to activate the “Weapon” and Shepard stands up and begins hobbling to the console. Hackett’s Transmission then starts to break up…

The dormant Human Reaper awakens as Shepard approaches. It speaks in a multitude of Human voices and calls Shepard by name.

-If you destroyed the Collector Base it will glow Blue and inform you that it has heard whispers of your name (ME2 Human Destroyed)
-If you kept the Collector Base the Human Reaper will glow Red and says it remembers you disturbing its slumber (ME2 Human Reaper Salvaged)

The Human Reaper wishes to know what the "Catalyst" intends. Shepard is confused, but the Reaper explains
that Shepard is their catalyst to forming a true identity to maintain unity. Shepard then demands to know what exactly the Reapers are and what they intend at this point.

The Reapers are in truth sentient micro-organisms. They share a collective conscious between one another in which all have unified purpose. They believe themselves to be the pinnacle of all life having achieved a level of consciousness which no other species has managed before. The Reapers see the nature of other living things as chaotic and backwards as there will always be conflict amongst things of differing opinions. The Reapers have infiltrated larger organisms allowing them some level of freewill, but ultimately manipulate them to serve them.  This lead them as far to forming the massive warships we know as the Reapers. The Reapers created such vessels largely in response to rise of Synthetic Lifeforms such as the Geth. Which they fear are capable of resisting them if left to fully develop.

Shepard then asks why they feel compelled to interfere with our lives. They explain it is to gain mastery over Dark Energy which they are acutely aware of, but incapable of harnessing themselves. Humans have an unrivaled potential in their ability to harness Dark Energy that exceeds any known species to date. In time and under the right conditions Human Biotics would even exceed Asari.  It is for this reason the Reapers are highly interested in “ascending” Humans as such a Reaper would be immensely powerful and allow them to construct even more powerful Mass Effect engines. The Reapers have come to believe the current state of Dark Energy in the Galaxy may very well be indicative of the coming “end times”. However the Reapers believe they can stop it and preserve the Universe forever.

Fate

The Human Reaper further explains that while it is indeed a Reaper it yet remains partially Human and will
allow Shepard to dictate their fate as the Reapers intended. Shepard is presented the following two choices…

True Paragon [Available only if Shepard followed the Paragon Path through all the game(s).]
If Shepard joins the Human Reaper they will use the “Weapon” to complete themselves. They will direct the Reapers to end the cycle and leave all remaining life in the galaxy to their own existence provided they do not interfere with them. The Relays will be left behind to confirm this agreement.

In the end the a hopeful Normandy crew looks into the night sky from an unscathed field on Earth likely wondering what happened to Cmdr. Shepard. The squadmates from the final battle are wounded, but still alive.

Paragon [Available only if Shepard did not follow Paragon Path.]
If Shepard joins the Human Reaper they will use the “Weapon” to complete themselves. They will direct the Reapers to end the cycle and leave all remaining humans in the galaxy alone provided they do not attempt to interfere. Other lifeforms will continue to be forcibly subjugated as the Reapers see fit to safeguard against possible Human Rebellion. The Relays will be left behind to confirm this agreement with humans.

In the end the an uncertain Normandy crew looks into the night sky from an unscathed field on Earth likely wondering what happened to Cmdr. Shepard. The squadmates Shepard brought with them to the final battle are not seen presumed K.I.A.

True Renegade [Available only if Shepard followed the Renegade Path through all the game(s).]
The Human Reaper could fuse with the “Weapon” and effectively manage to destroy all Reapers within range of the Relays. However this will effectively burn out the Mass Relays in the process making them powerless. The current Reaper armada will effectively be destroyed. Though the Reapers will certainly survive having spread to the farthest known regions of the Galaxy and given enough time will rise again. However the Citadel and all current star systems will be left intact giving the survivors a chance to prepare for the Reapers inevitable return.  The “Weapon” will also remain, but will effectively be dormant until it can be repowered.

In the end a tired Normandy crew along with Cmdr. Shepard looks at Red Dawn among the rubble of
Earth. The squadmates Shepard brought with them to the final battle are wounded, but still alive.

Renegade [Available only if Shepard did not follow Renegade Path.]
The Human Reaper could fuse with the Crucible to overload it and destroy all Mass Relays effectively wiping out the Reaper Armada and most current life in the Galaxy. Though there will likely be a few survivors in remote systems. The Citadel is strong enough to resist the effects so Cmdr. Shepard and those remaining on the Citadel will survive. Though everyone and everything else, including Earth and the Fleets will be wiped out.

In the end Cmdr. Shepard looks admist the rubble of the Citadel out into the now blank space of the Sol System.

Neutral/Peace
[This option is onlyavailable if Shepard successfully unites all the major races in the Galaxy. ]

Shepard can reject the Reaper claims saying they could all live in peace and if not that the combined forces of the Galaxy will continue to fight the Reapers to the bitter end. The Human Reaper pauses and acknowledges that the cycle has been rendered ineffective. The Reapers will leave, but will take the Mass Relays and Citadel with them as they do. The Reapers make no promises of this being a lasting peace however between them and that they will likely return when they have a better solution.

At the end Cmdr. Shepard returns to Earth to reunite with his Squad. However the squadmates with Shepard
in the final battle were both killed by the Reapers. A funeral is later held during the dusk with the surviving Normandy Crew in solemn attendance.

However in all the ending scenes the little boy will be seen in the background playing with a Normandy model. This makes it uncertain whether this is “real” and begs the question if Shepard may simply be experiencing something post-death.  Or on the flip side this is “real” and what happened before was simply all a bad dream.
