In short, the game was running perfectly smoothly earlier today.  Now it's choppy enough that it's unplayable.

I'm currently updating my drivers and checking some other things, but I figured I should make a post to see if anyone else was having issues.

I'm actually getting the same problem, before today, 60fps rock solid. Now lucky to get above 35 in MP, 40 in SP, and never above 20(!) in the main menu. :(

Editing this post so people first coming to the thread can hopefully try the below and maybe fix their issues:

"So another update, the problem started again tonight. The only thing I
have done since 'updating my drivers' was turning off my computer for a
couple of hours.

Start the game back up tonight, back to 20fps in the main menu and similar problems in game.

Going to try some of the other ideas in the thread and will update back.

Update
1: Turning off AA (switching to App controlled) move back the game to
60+fps, however at the time, I did have the AA option in game turned
off. Turning in on in game seemed to do very little to aliasing.

Update
2: Using any nVidia control panel AA override (regardless of in game AA
settings) absolutley murders fps. I tried at 4x, 8x, 16x, and 16x QCSAA
(which is what I was using before yesterday with no issue).

That
being said, I cannot really see a difference in game between in game AA
on or off, I am however playing at 1920x1080, so it less of an issue.

Update 3: Woohoo, may have had a breakthrough, here is what I have found.

Turning
the setting in the nVidia control panel "Override the application
setting" and using any AA setting will masacre in game FPS (and shoot my
GPU usage into the red zone)

However, using nvidiaInspector and
setting AA for ME3 on "Enhance the Application setting" with 16x QCSAA
works back at 60fps. Hopefully that will help some users and our tech
help see what might be going on.

Seems to me like the nvidia control panel and ME3 do not play well when overriding each other.

Note: The above settings in Update 3 were all done with AA turned ON in game, have not tested with it OFF.

I am having the exact same issue. I know my hardware can handle running this at 60 fps no issue any other time, but all of a sudden i get drops around 45 and lower in common parts.

I am having the same problem. I can't even play the game anymore on my computer because it is so choppy. BioWare, please let me know if there are any changes I can make to my system/game settings or when a new patch is coming out to fix the problems with this one. The game worked fine prior to today....

Bumperage... hopefully for a solution.

Does reinstalling work? I would hate to have to download the whole thing again... but I guess I can do it while I am replaying ME2.

It does seem a lot slower in MP I noticed today. Playable, but no longer the 60fps.

Edit: hmm, maybe it was my ATI driver update. I'll check.

This is upsetting...I refuse to play the game like this. Is there a way I can roll back to a previous patch? I'd rather forfit the ability to play online than suffer through this.

Is this just an AMD driver thing? If it is I'll skip it :) I swear the 12.x drivers have been nothing but trouble, especially for the 79xx series of cards :(

I'm at work.

Is the patch optional or automatically "forced" by Origin? I have an ATI card and am I right that only ATI customers have it?

Let's all post and compare specs to figure out what's causing this.

I noticed no framerate loss after the latest patch.
AMD Radeon HD 6870 with driver version 12.3
AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE 3.4 Ghz

You can turn off automatic updates in the Origin settings.

Do I have to manually check for updates or does the patch download by itself? If it really makes the game unplayable then I won't touch it

But that will also mean you can't touch MP. That sucks.

Not at home so I can't check my nVidia drivers, but I am pretty sure I am running the 295 version.

Specs: Intel Core i5-2500k @4.5GHz
nVidia GTX 570 @ 920/1840/2100
8GB 1600MHz RAM

So... I should not be having any issue running this.

Anyone from Bioware or anyone else have any ideas?

Edit: I noticed someone above saying AA and AO might have changed with the patch, were they not on before? I know Ambient Occlusion can wreck fps, so maybe if it is on by default, that could be what is going on.

It started to lag right after I got my commendation pack and restarted ME. It was fine, literally right before I restarted it.
Edit: I got my commendation pack through EA support, if that matters.

Intel Core i7 Q740 @1.73 GHz
nVidia GeForce GT 425m
4gb ram

there is an update for my gfx card. will see if it helps. Don't think so as it was fine earlier.

We didn't release a patch yesterday. Patch 2 will be sent to Certification soon but definitely not out yet. Could you guys post your system specs (especially the video card) and let us know if you are having issues?

I have the same problem. Everything is running fine until now.
I am sure it was running at above 60 fps before as I am using a 120Hz monitor.

My setup as follow:
i7 930 @4ghz
12GB ram at 2000mhz
Nvidia GTX460 1GB x2 in SLI (Diver 296.10)
Windows 7 ult 64bit

I was using the same driver last night and it was fine.

Actually, as the person after me said, this happened right after I got my 'Victory Pack' yesterday as well. I opened the pack and got my stuff, alt-tabbed out for a moment (to go on to forums to see what other people were getting  ) but at first didn't notice anything different. (The multiplayer menu still seems to run at 60fps). I quit the game and restarted (anxious to get dat Commendation Pack!) and immeadiately noticed the main menu was running at 20 fps (I have two monitors and have MSI Afterburner's system monitor running on my other screen all the time). I though it was a little weird, but logged into MP. No pack yet, so I decided to play a match.

I get in, and notice immeadiatley again something was wrong, I was struggling to stay around 35fps (my GPU was also maxxing out at 100% constantly, luckily I have excellent cooling on it so it wasn't overheating, despite my overclock).

My specs again: Intel Core i5-2500k @ 4.5GHz, nVidia GTX 570 @ 920/1840/2100, 8GB 1600MHz RAM

Have had no issue since opening that pack yesterday. :/

Like I posted before:
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 Driver ver. 296.10

Tried Origin support, changing origin settings, priority and affinity from the task bar and it didn't help, only thing left is the game itself.

Like Cruders, this fps drop issue began after I got my commendation and victory pack and restarted the game.

AMD Phenom II X4 955BE @ 3.8Ghz
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
AMD XFX 7950 3GB @ 960/1450

All latest drivers installed.

Also noticed that graphics card is being bottlenecked by CPU, despite games that should be MUCH more CPU intensive (Starcraft 2, for instance) not being bottlenecked by the processor.
