Yay, grats for you guys holding the line. When Bioware finally stop making a profit we'll have no more Bioware games to play... oh wait..

It's called capitalism. Supply and demand. They supplied us a bad ending to a good product, we no longer demand it.

DA:O was a sublime game, you cannot beat Leliana offering her "fruit" the expansion, Awakenings wasn't that bad, but witch hunt showed how unconcerned the devs were, they was obviously trying to sell DA:2 and the fanbase objected to everything they produced in way of dev screens, etc from day 1 and the fans were right. Bioware again forgot what made DA:O magical, old friends and LI's never made it to DA:2, see...theres a pattern, and if we can deduct anything fromthis it that DA:3 will be the worst bioware game ever produced , even worse than the ending of mass effect3. more dire pain is to come. the mass effect team held the chalice of hope for the fans, until someone decided to shut the team out and go solo with the ending. Mr Solo...you are to blame for this fiasco

That makes no sense you said the product was good, but a bad ending. Soooo.....you don't buy a great product if it has a bad ending . That makes no sense to me. I love ME3 despite it's meh ending

It's a product that left thousands of people (probably over 50-60% of buyers) dissapointed, so at the end it's a bad product. It doesn't matter if 99% makes you happy, if the other 1% is strong enough to make you regret buying it.

So much truth in this quote.

But I don't think that the lower sales on week 2 are relevant, those who intended to buy ME3 already done so, the neding bad press may be dissuading potential week 2 costumers, the real significance can be taken from an overview of the next month of sales.

I haven't read most of the replies, but for anyone to think the bashing of ME3 had a major part in this is dellusional. From what I heard this is normal for any big game.

The fact that ME3 isn't available in GAME or Gamestation in the UK probably has a lot to do with it too.

This.

Also, there's a fuel crisis (or a stupid government-generated fear of a fuel crisis, which amounts to the same thing).

I think it's fine. Games like Mass Effect 3, Skyrim and Dragon Age tend to see huge numbers in the first week because they are recognised as great games whether they are a trilogy, a franchise or a series of standalone games. I think it's just a common trend for successful video game sequels (or sequels in general) to see huge figures in the first week and a significant drop in the second. It's just what happens because everyone rushes to buy it. I know I preordered it... twice. (GAME sucks)

I wonder why the sales dropped? Oh yeah, everyone on these boards bombarded Metacritic and Amazon with horrible reviews, accomplishment? It sure is, you managed to successfully ensure the possibility of never seeing another ME game. Thanks!

Action, reaction. Cause, effect.

I think you have this wrong:

Spoiled (the game before is was released), Reaction (slammed Bioware with hatred and death threats on the day of release), Action (then spammed the forums with the same thread asking for free DLC and the world is ending threads), Effect (Got what you wanted, and now the sales are being affected).

Someone who thinks Bioware can do no wrong is BITTER... so sad.

It's available at Play.com at a deep discount:

That assumes that the company formerly known as BIOWARE actually makes 'bioware games' as opposed to Sci Fi call of duty,

Yes...but that's a different sales model.  ME3 had the big marketing and such behind it.  You're better off comparing it to Skyrim.

Skyrim was off 70% week 2, but got a nice bump a week or 2 later....which is why you release during the holdiay season.

Target sales for this game is probably 4-5 mill.  I really doubt more than 5 was projected, honestly they didn't print enough in the US for first week demand.

Of course, ME3 did way bigger numbers in its first week  so a larger drop is logical. So what I'm asking is whether you think a 74% drop is normal or is the ending controversy hurting sales?

If you have been following games you would know big drops are normal. everyone buys early especially if it has multiplayer for the edge. None of you 'hurt' sales because all of you purchased a copy. Silent Hill Downpour got a price drop recently omg you hurt that game as well? lol

I did say successful sequels. But the issue with DA2 was that is was completely ripped into for almost every aspect of the game. It was BioWare's attempt at making a game worse than Final Fantasy XXIV.

Then how can anything you say be considered a valid addition to the discussion? That's about like saying "Well ignoring all presented arguments to the contrary, i'm right because -insert comment-". It holds no water.

I imagine that because of the large amount of advertising most people who were going to buy the game already have so I don't think it is all that significant. I think DA:O dropped less because there was less advertising so word of mouth played a bigger role in sales.

As stated in a similar thread, too early to tell and if one looks at similar titles, week one sales followed by week two sales usually display a large drop in volume of units sold.

This is normal for entertainment. We need more time and data to start ringing alarm bells.

Didn't Modern Warfare 2 have its sales drop about 80% in its second week? And isn't MW2 one of the best selling games of all time?

It's a pretty massive drop considering the game has multiplayer this time around.
