What was wrong with the good old fashion UPC code method!?

I can't merge my ME3 Origin account with my BSN account (which has all of my other bioware games for both PS3 AND PC registered to it) for whatever obnoxious, DRM related, reasoning... when just 3 days ago I registered my Wife's PS3 copy of ME2 to my BSN using the !#%$@ UPC code!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What were EA thinking!?

I was never even asked by EA which email I wanted to use for Origin... they just went ahead and used an ancient, pre-Origin, game's EA sign in to auto-complete that decision for me!? Thanks.
