While I think Bioware did one of the best jobs I have ever seen with the game characters and companions I have one gripe with how they handled Dog at the end. I will try to keep this vague and spoiler free as my gripe is just a mechanic.  I am just curious if this bothered anyone or if maybe my game was bugged (I know some of the endings were a little buggy at times from what I read).

So depending on many decisions you make .. you may have a chance, at the end, to talk with each of those companions left in your party. I had this chance and I talked with each of them before I left the coronation room.

EXCEPT when I got to Dog I discovered not only could you not "talk" with him but he wasn't even selectable - he was like part of the wall. I didn't expect chattting but I did expect I could have at least selected him and gotten a tail wag and happy bark or a chance to give him a pet.  It was like he didn't even exist - he stood next to Sten like a lawn ornament.

I had him in my entire party 95% of the entire game and totally enjoyed him. The devs stated dog was a full party member, yet at the end of the game you can't even give him a pet or a treat? I don't know it seemed very lame to me. Like they didn't even care enough to even animate him.

Poor dog :(

A bit spoilerific, but if you sacrifice yourself, he's not even in the epilogue. You get a small story as to what happened to all your friends, but not Dog. :(

I've noticed there is another dog near my doggy, possibly meaning he/she will live happily married to that other dog!"What a nice ending for the cutest party member ever!

That bothered me too. I had him with me for almost the entire game one my human noble run (only place I left him behind was the Anvil of the Void) so I wish I could have thanked him properly for all the help. I have to admit I told him he was a good dog out loud since I couldn't click on him and say so *g*.

Well I wasn't sure if it was a bug or if I had just missed something - like maybe I missed where he was located.  But it sounds like others experienced the same thing.

I mean I really enjoyed the game and Dog and all the characters. But ... well I am a big dog lover (have two) and since I enjoyed him so much it would have been nice to at least had some resolution/epilogue involving him, silly as it seems I know.

I think the dropped the ball on Dog big time. They promised he'd be a full-fledged party member, but he is not -- not in terms of gear, not in terms of talents, skill or utility, and certainly not in terms of interaction, which is the biggest gripe. Before the game launched I was one of the people who really looked forward to having a mabari and who staunchly defended him from the naysayers who claimed it'd be impossible to make a dog, even an intelligent dog, remotely as interactive as a "proper human" party member.

Unfortunately, it turns out that I was wrong and the naysayers were right.

I'm not happy with the NPC interaction in the game, in general, but Dog really got the short end of a stick. Off the top of my head I can think of at least a dozen situations in which it would have made perfect sense for him do "say"/do something, or for NPCs to react to him, but nothing happens. The lack of an epilogue just brings that sad letdown to the logical end.

I am using him on my first playthrough, and he is quite useful and loveable. But he is not a full-fledged party member, and yes, I am disappointed because with a little effort to involve and acknowledge him more, he could have been so much better and more "real".

Unless I am missing something, Dog is not bound for some overly happy ending regardless. Think about what a little bit of darkspawn blood does to someone. Through the game, Dog ends up with a lot more than that. If he is lucky, Dog gets to make one last trip to the deep roads to go out Grey Warden style.

Not really. In the lore it is not unprecedented for a dog to go through the joining (Kells dog) and become immune to the taint. There are also herbs and plants that can cure them.

Dog has a Ending. He mates with all the Dog Females in Ferelden and Orlais...

Well, I don't know about that, but if I had a choice, I would do that to the all the Women!

Since the cutscene after Redcliffe suggests that the people of that area at least have burial traditions similar to Vikings, I'd assume the dog is sent off along with the master/mistress. Good riddance, filthy flea-carrier.
