Great news, if anyone cares!

It turns out that all I had left to do was Alistair's personal quest (where he meets his sister). I went through that, calmed him down, got the conversation where he finally confesses he loves me (the approval meter changed from "adore" to "love"). I went back to camp, then he asked to sleep with me. :)

Thank you all for your help.

Sorry I was away from the boards...  but, you go gal!  It's a sweet moment huh?

I had to complete Redcliffe, his personal quest and save Connor before he asked me to join him. Yes, I did kiss him first as well. This boy really makes you work for him....but he IS worth it : )

I have had Alistair initiate with my character before 100 Love... I believe 90 was the push point. It's a mystery to me how people got to 100 and he didn't, but I would guess it does have to do with having completed his personal quest. He initiates regardless of "hardening" or not. Just a little plug, I do think it can be romantic even if you're the one who initiates the trip to the tent. You get another dialogue with him the next time where he says you're his first and he hopes you're his last. In this conversation he is obviously thinking about the kingship and giving you a chance to end things if you want.

He seems to offer it after you get his approval to a certain level and then gain your next ally. I generally push his approval up so quickly that I'm not sure which level it is, but I know he's never offered it if he hit a new approval level between ally acquisitions...I had to wait until I got the next one. For example, if it's Care you need and he's at Interested after Redcliffe, you can give him gifts to raise him to Care, but he won't offer you the rose until you've completed Circle Tower (or whatever was next on your list). I think.

I tend to spastically run off and do his personal quest  the moment he mentions it, so I almost always get the tent conversation before the rose.
