Now I realise why PC Powerplay Australia is my favourite games mag, If only I read their review before I bought the game....

The worst sin BioWare has committed with Mass Effect 3 is a tactless avoidance of consequences to major decisions made in the first two games.

http://www.pcpowerpl...-mass-effect-3/

VERDICT: A game that’s more shooter than role-playing, and a conclusion that’s more spectacular than dramatic.

This kinda reminds me of all the hate of DA2 ... You know, there is so much flaming that Its almost laughable. And guess what? They dropped DA2! The haters won...

I am dissapointed, but also slightly embaressed by how probably 50% of this forum keep all this hate all over the board. Kinda wish we tuned it down a few steps.

But yeah, can´t wait for april. It will be interesing, or very dissapointing. :)

Closer to truth. Lies in between. Writing is team collective. Lead writer and smaller writers contribute to every scene. Final scene likely not fault of Mac Walters. Reeks of Casey Hudson. Producerial involvement. Occurs frequently in game industry. Producer out of touch, too busy writing budgets, planning luncheons, whipping QA testers. Decides they want story inclusion. Told not plausible. Forces anyway. He signs check after all.

It is progress but the company is still in denial. What they have not fully grasped yet is that with the current ending the Mass Effect universe is dead to most of us.

Let me repeat that...with the current ending the Mass Effect universe is dead.

Simply explaining the ending they gave us will not be enough to resurrect it. The ending needs to be fixed and alternatives added. Nothing less will do.

I love how he uses the art defense. I'm all for supporting video games as an art medium, but when when the product doesn't match the promised result, that excuse goes out the window.

You can't tell me you're gonna paint me a horse, let me decide the breed, color, background, and style of it, charge me $60 for it, and then hand me a picture of a cow. Sure its your art, but its not what I paid for.

Promises were made that weren't delivered, and no one at Bioware seems to address this.

I'm not even remotely interested in an expanded version of the current ending, and I don't think I'm alone in that. Unless this is a total rewrite of the ending, then I think this would be a wasted effort.

It's funny that PR speak from the founder that has no input on the creative process is the closest thing we have thus far to ''we'll see how we can alter the ending''.

I mean, yeah it's buried in the usuaol denial and patting themselves on the back for pleasing the extremely easily pleased ''official'' critics, but it still seems a slight improvement over snarky Twiter feedback.

I'm glad they're listening. I hope we get atleast one DLC (paid or not, I no longer care) that helps us cope with the abomination that they birthed ;).

Besides I wouldn't think Ray would say that they totally screwed up, for all we know he's probably good friends with the people who wrote the ME3 Story. There is no way he'd publically blame them and I can understand that. The whole thing is too fresh anyway.

"In return, I’d ask that you help us do that by supporting what I truly believe is the best game BioWare has yet crafted. I urge you to do your own research: play the game, finish it and tell us what you think. Tell your friends if you feel it’s a good game as a whole."-- Ray Muzyka

That. ladies and gentlemen, is basically admitting that their sales are taking a huge hit, and they're afraid that new DLC won't be snapped up. In other words, we will see a new ending if only to stem the incredible negativity levied against the game. Amazon has it as a 2 star game right now. They're losing thousands of potential customers, and all the sell backs have probably cut their profit margins even more since people can just buy one of the many used copies on the cheap. He basically admitted right there what a dumb move an ambiguous ending is on a 150 hour experience.

Neither did he acknowledge the mistake that we call the ending, nor did he make promises to fix it.

So stay strong and hold the line.

I didn't really get anything from that. He's continuing the trend of using a lot of words to say very little at the moment. And continuing to insist that we all look at the game reviewer's reviews and how amazing they are. Of course, game reviewers are dependent on the good graces of the reviewed to stay afloat, so their opinions are not just opinions, but biased in an almost understandable way.

When they give a straight, concrete answer I'll accept it.

Well, good news is they are listening. Bad news is I don't think that the endings are going to change by a huge amount based on what was said there.  But we'll have to wait and see what they come up with and see if it actually does provide an acceptable ending.

There were times when hurting Bioware like that would've made me sad.

But it just takes one look at the "failed promises" thread to assure me that these times are gone

Expanded or inclusive version of current ending would be poor move.  Reinforces anger.  Like watching car crash of loved one.  Told would feel better if saw new footage.  Realize same gorey details from different camera angle.  Does not help closure.  Loved one still dead.

Went out to see some Churchill history and I come back to see this statement =X

Anyway, thanks for responding to us Bioware. I believe it's a step in the right direction. And people, he is toeing the line with his statement. He has to placate both sides of the fence. So please cut him some slack.

I hate how they keep saying a minority. From the friends I have and all the facebook/tweets/forums I read, 98% dislike the ending. Get your facts together Bioware!!!!!

Do a word search, nowhere does he us the word "minority".  Who needs to get their facts together?

all i can say is this... i love everything Mass Effect and i want to continue to enjoy it for many years to come. i am also a huge fan of anything bioware, and want to continue to be excited about their products.

while i fully respect the creative team and their desires to tell a specific story i find it difficult to replay games where i know there is no hope for my character.

i felt a great sense of accomplishment when i successfully brought my ship and crew through the suicide mission unscathed, and i expected much more when i defeated the reapers. at the conclusion of me3 i just felt flat.

I think the main gyst of the post was we'll have new information, at latest end of April. He's also not trying to throw Casey Hudson under the bus. And we're having an impact since he asked us to recommend the game to our friends. He knows the importance of a loyal fan-base.

"So, it's incredibly painful to receive feedback from our core fans that the game's endings were not up to their expectations. Our first instinct is to defend our work and point to the high ratings offered by critics - but out of respect to our fans, we need to accept the criticism and feedback with humility."

I feel really bad now after berating the games ending. But they were sub-par in comparison to, well, anything really; and they were a huge let-down after such an epic trilogy. I know how "heartwrentching" (for use of a better word) it is to pour your life into a creative piece and have it ripped apart. Is this situation more fool me, or them?
:(

I'm happy we got this response.

Though this "artistic integrity" crap worries me. If they think they can keep the ending pretty much as it is and slap on an epilogue...

Same here.  But still progress. Well, we´ll have to wait and see.
Unitl then, holding the line.

I don't want to expand on this BS of an ending, I don't want someone to explain me a deus ex machina, I want a good ending that's all
