"The team and I have been thinking hard about how to best address the comments on ME3’s endings from players, while still maintaining the artistic integrity of the game.[...] This is an issue we care about deeply, and we will respond to it in a fair and timely way. We’re already working hard to do that. ." So they do something, while not throwing the current ending away (which would be castatrophic in my opinion). Well, that's good, i really appreciate it. Would never ask for more.

Mmm. A little non-committal, but I'm pleased to see somehting semi-solid finally offered to us. It's appreciated, by me anyway.

It comes across as a very hollow response. Sorry, but it's hard to take statements that Bioware are seriously listening when there's still no timetable for when the face import patch is coming, of it even is.

He's right, the game is great and in almost all areas supassed expectations. Personally, I simply feel as though the endings have no real connection to my Shepard as a result of her effect on the universe as a whole. The Normandy needs more explaination and I'd love to have some intercut cut scenes showing the fruits of my Shepard's labours through the previous 3 games. I honestly don't care if the relays are destroyed. If my Shep has to dies, let me see Liara touch her stomach as a tear drops from her eye. Stuff like that.

You lose any claim to artistic integrity when the final thing we see in the game is an ad for DLC.

I disagree. Without that message, most people would be completely done with the game. With a nihilist ending, most people would assume Mass Effect is completely over and retire the game. Saying that DLC will be made available implies that although the story can be finished, mid-game content will still be provided.

I dont think he addressed the main issue with the ending realy. Players want closure and the feeling that their choices matter. This current ending offers none of the above. it just feels like there is an entire chapter missing and I'm afraid its done deliberate.

This is the interesting paragraph:

"Building on their research, Exec Producer Casey Hudson and the team are hard at work on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey. You’ll hear more on this in April. We’re working hard to maintain the right balance between the artistic integrity of the original story while addressing the fan feedback we’ve received. This is in addition to our existing plan to continue providing new Mass Effect content and new full games, so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue."

Translation please.

"..., so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue."

How?? All the relays are destroyed...
And as we learned in Arrival, when that happens it's bye-bye-system, so everyone we know of is dead and every place we know of is wrecked.

I agree. There has not been anything new said. They genuinely thought this ending was going to be okay with the fans, especially after the biased websites came in. The reviewers probably hadn't finished the game in a lot of instances.

Bioware is in a tough spot. If they change the endings then they will set a precedent. If they don't change the endings then they will lose loyal fans. Probably a lot of them. (Me included.)

I respect their right for artistic integrity, but you also can't hide behind the notion that it's art and therefore unbreakable. That isn't true. They are selling a product first. The first two games and 99% of the third is art, but the last 1% totally destroys the artistic value of the five years and hundreds of hours per fan of Mass Effect. That HAS to be considered.

I will not be happy with DLC trying to lamely explain the glaring plot-holes and convince me that the ending was not in direct conflict with the values of the preceding three games. I will not buy DLC that is only mid game filler. Sorry, but I'm not interested in that.

That sounds a lot different than the last statements. He is not calling us directly (=the ones who dislikes the ending) a "minority" anymore and he is not dismissing the critics as unfounded or contrary to the "integrity of art", but says they are looking for a way to integrate both positions.

I would call this a success of the RetakeME3-movement so far, but I`m interested what experts like atghunter will say about this.

That tells me that the ending we got is the one they intended us to have. I'm sure someone will spin it differently though.

No, I think you're right - so no dlc for me then.

Thank you for what I believe is a sincere reply. I love the ME universe and characters and have enjoyed my time with them more than with those of any other franchise. When the endings are expanded upon and take into consideration the choices I have made, I will be delighted to return to the people and places I love.

Until then, I will hold the line.

Thanks Ray, and thanks to the Mass Effect team.

This is a "meet me half way" and hopefully concerns and issues are to be addressed with
more content incoming to deal with issues, plotholes and bring new content and even "new games??
so this is not the end of the mass effect universe.

You guys at Bioware are unprecedented in your humility, and I really do think you care,
but touting the 75 acclaimed critis for the score means absolutely nothing to me, these
"critics" so called, probably never even played the first game, but...

The co-founder of Bioware coming forward to allieviate our concerns has to be respected
profoundly, thanks fot that Ray, and because of that act of humility and promises of a resolution,
I shall now go and change my Amazon and Metacritic scores I gave "in the heat of the moment"
as a passionate kneejerk, and give the game hopefully the score it deserved.

I shall be watching though, don't botch it up.

Love Live Shep!!!

It's positive to note and see that our criticism is taken seriously and that they are considering what to do about it. They could also just shrug and go on with their daily business.

However it's still unclear though what will be done to comfort the many players that have been dissapointed by the ending of the game. But april is in 7 days and maybe we will see some light at the end of the tunnel by then.

From that it looks like they are going to offer exposition which many claim to want and not offer any new endings or change the ones they do have. A fair compromise which people might not accept and few would pay for. They will only pay for the ending they want.

I feel like i've been betrayed by bioware.

So this letter.

I don't know what to think about it

I will tentatively follow developments, but unless Bioware does something to directly address this whole thing, i'm maintaining my stance on not buying any more bioware products and definitely telling my friends not to either.

He's right though.

99% of the game is pretty much the best game ive ever played in my entire life, but the endings leave such a deeply sour taste in my mouth.

It was almost like drinking the most delicious tasting acid you could ever imagine. It's wonderful while you're drinking it, but is definitely going to hurt you when you finish your glass.

The biggest thing I have against ME3's ending is that it's not an ending. Reading how the Mass Effect team is apparently working on giving us actual closure, is more than good enough for me.

Solidifying your #1 position on my favourite game developer list - you're doing it wonderfully. Thank you, BioWare.

The problem here is that the ending doesn't reflect any of the choices you have made in the 3 games, that is why most people is annoyed, and feel betrayed.

It may be the best game they have done according the him, but it is NOT the best RPG they have done according to the gamers/fans, because all the RPG elements have been diluted a lot in order to put more emphasize in the TPS aspect of the game. This game was supposed to be and RPG with action elements, and not a TPS with some little RPG elements.

A game sequel is great based on its quality, ability to enhance previous experiences and coherence to previous games, so that it is attached to its roots while making new things and enhancing what was previously done. And It is not based on the rating or on how much it sold the first week.

I really hope Bioware stops thinking that way, because if not, most fans wont buy their games anymore. If I want ONLY a great TPS I would play gears of war and not Mass Effect. But I want a great RPG with TPS elements that is why I play Mass Effect. It happened the same with Dragon Age 2. They made hack and slash game with RPG elements, when what all the fans wanted was an RPG with action elements. If I only wanted to play a hack and slash game I would play God of War.

Hopefully someone at Bioware will read this
