Hello, I am owner of original copy of Mass Effect 1 for PC.

The installation of the game proceeded without any problems. During the installation, I was asked for a serial key, which I provided and the installation was finished succesfully.

But now each time I click on the Play button from the ME launcher, a new, small white window pops up, and it asks me to enter a registration key.

But the key which I used during the installation is already written  in this window, but the window doesn't accept it! When I click Finish, the window just re-appears and asks for registration key again.

I checked multiple times to make sure I am typing the registration key successfully, and I am. It is the key written on the last page of game manual, and it is the only key that was ever supplied for this game.

I've just been on the phone for 30 minutes with an EA representative from their help call center, but none of the advice he provided was helpful:

1) he said to run the ME exe directly from game directory and to run it as Administrator. I did so, no effect.

2) then he told me to find a file called "Paul.dll" in the /Binaries directory and delete it. When I did it, the game didn't recognize the ME DVD and wouldn't start (yes, I did insert the game dvd into my dvd mechanic).

The weird thing is, I actually played, and finished this game before - around 1.5 year ago, and it worked without any problems. Unfortunately I didnt keep the final save files back then.

Please help me, I want to play ME1 and ME2 before playing ME3, so I can import save game files.

Info about my PC if it helps: Windows 7 home premium SP1, Administrator account. Intel Core i7 860, ATI Radeon HD 8500, 4 GB ram. All the latest graphics, audio, direct X etc. drivers installed.

I play ME with the latest patch installed (1.02)

Edit: With the help of EA representative, I was able to solve the issue:
Apparently, it was caused by me, installing a wrong patch. I installed the English patch from Bioware site.
But it seems that my version is Czech-Hungarian-English one, and you need to install a correct patch.
So to all players from Czech Republic or Hungary: Uninstall the game. Do a fresh new install. Apply the CZ/HU/EN patch and you should be okay. I downloaded the patch from CD Project's website, who are distributing the game in these countries.
