So, having given it a couple of days to sink it, I still feel the current ending options just weren't developed enough, so I decided to write a few of my own. I'm creating this thread in the hopes that others who have done the same (I'm sure their must be some of you!) can share their versions as well, as an positive way of showing Bioware what we want, and hopefully to bring some joy to others who feel let down by the official endings.

My prefered ending continues from the point where you resume control of Shepard for the last time, as I was completely satisfied with the game up to this point, it is therefore an addition, rather than a retcon.

[‘Good’ bittersweet ending, with 5000+ war assets, maximum number of races gained as allies, femshep, Garrus romanced]

(Shepard struggles forward, tired, battered, broken, and for the first time accepting her fate. She chooses control. She places her hands in the beams of light and convulses in pain as the beams begin to destroy her. Then the faces of her squad mates flash before our eyes [renegage prompt appears, player presses for renegade action], and her expression changes to one of realisation.)

Catalyst: What are you doing?

Shepard:  Winning.  We aren’t powerful enough to destroy the reapers, but they are.

Catalyst: You cant!

Shepard: Dialogue options > I can: I’m Commander Shepard, I stopped Saren, I stopped the collectors, and now I’m stopping you.
We can: Creativity is what makes us different to machines, we can think of things you could never predict. This is what organic life can do.

(Camera pans back, all around the catalyst the reapers stop moving and instead the larger ships start exploding, some of those within the earth’s gravitational pull simply fall from the sky.)

(Shot: Back on earth, your squad mates [here Garrus and James] search through the rubble, suddenly a reaper ship falls from the sky, they jump back to get out of the way. They look up and see more ships exploding in the sky. [Who speaks here depends on your actions previously, if your LI is present, they speak.])

Garrus: Normandy, this is Garrus, do you read me?

[pause]Joker: kshhhhh… Garrus, we’re alive and still flying!

Garrus: Then give me some good news. What’s happening up there? Are our fleets gaining the upper hand?

Joker: Negative… we’re still firing on them… but I don’t think it’s us. It’s like they’re exploding… from the inside. What about you? Where’s Shepard? Did anyone make it to the citadel?

Garrus: …we don’t know. Shepard isn’t here.

EDI: I will attempt to contact her.

James: Hey, look! Is that the crucible? Someone must’ve made it! Shepard…
(We see blue light spreading from the crucible, through the fleets in the sky and out.)

EDI: I have found Shepard. She is inside the catalyst. The life signs from her suit are… fading.

Joker: Then we have to get to her!

EDI: …we cannot. I have explored all the options. There is no way to reach her in time.

Garrus: Can we speak to her?

EDI: Negative. But I can patch through her audio feed.

Garrus: …Do it.
(We hear the noise of the beams inside the catalyst, accompanied by Shepard’s racing heartbeat and sounds of pain, followed by the sound of her falling to the floor. The sounds of the catalyst cease.)

(Shot: Inside the Normandy, EDI turns to Joker) EDI: I… don’t want to listen. (Joker limps out of his seat and places his arm around her shoulders.)

(We hear Shepard’s laboured breathing, and her heart rate slowing.)

(Shot: Inside the catalyst, Shepard looks up and the chaos above her, smiles, and closes her eyes.)

(Shot: Earth. Garrus and James hear Shepard’s breathing and heart rate stop. Garrus bows his head. James shows his anger by meleeing a pair of stray husks to death.)

(Shot: Inside the Normandy, Joker switches the audio feed off. The camera moves to show the battle occurring outside the cockpit windows, then cuts to show your other comrades and the allies you gained in ME3 reacting to the reapers destruction, dodging falling ships, killing enemies,  etc. The Mass Relays ‘explode’ (and are destroyed), but they are not destructive to life, rather they are a means of spreading Shepard’s choice to the other star systems, as the Genophage cure was distributed on Tchuknka.)

Unnecessary, but something I feel would be a nice adition. (Shot: We pan over earth, clearly some time later. A large area has been cleared, but it will clearly still take many years before the planet is habitable again. The clearing is filled with people. We cut to a coffin, covered by an alliance flag, with the N7 and Spectre sigils sewn to one corner. Your surviving squad mates are paying their respects to Shepard.  The player will see five examples of this, including Joker and their LI, the others randomly selected. This adds replayability as the scene will be different each time. Joker steps forward to the coffin.)

Joker: Hey Commander. We did it. I don’t know how but… you did it. You were amazing, Shepard.

EDI: …I…do not understand the purpose of attempting to speak with you. You are gone, you cannot hear me. Still, I wish to say… goodbye, Commander.

Jack: You ****ing…(she sobs, sniffs and continues) ****… why did you have to die, you were the best one. You damn well better wait for me up there.

Liara: Shepard… I don’t know what to say. I am not sure if you believed there is more beyond this life or not, but…I hope we can meet again, some day.

(Your LI is last, in this case, Garrus. Garrus walks forward and rests his forehead against where Shepard’s would be inside the coffin. He stays like this for a few seconds, before raising his head a few inches and speaking.)
Garrus:  See you at the bar, Shepard.

(The camera pulls back, we see representatives from all the races you have united, all your other surviving squad mates from the previous games. If you cured the genophage, we see more Krogan females. If you saved the Geth, they are present, etc.

They are standing together, Krogan beside Turian, Quarian beside Geth. Reflecting your goal in game, your death has united the galaxy in grief and respect. The camera pans back, we see the extent of the destruction on earth, with destroyed ships of both sides still floating in the skies around earth. There is much to be done, but the galaxy can rebuild, and you have won.)

That's my take, but I would love to see others too, so please share them if you've made your own! Posted Image
