I've read this - and the opposite - time and again on the forums.
Before messing up my character, I'd love to have a definitive answer.  Do pets steal XP the same way that not-in-party-NPCs do ?

I have heard that they do, for what it is worth. Non-party members that steal kills steal xp.

If your pet kills it, you do not gain exp. If thats what you mean by exp stealing, then there you have it. Sneaky EXP pet-thief!

I have seen mixed results when using ranger pet in a solo game. I don't know if it had to do with your level, or the particular type of enemy, but in some cases the pet would definitely steal your xp if it got the killing blow, but in some cases it wouldn't. I have verified evidence for both instances, so there is no 1 exact answer. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. I was unable to find any pattern to explain why. In my experience though, a ranger pet was not worth a different specialization.

lol i always hit 20 at end one way or another thats if I'm playing properly right now i completed the game like 4 times i just mess around with builds now. I never noticed them stealing exp never mind.

The ranger's pet is considered a party member (yellow circle) rather than a NPC ally (blue circle). It does not steal XP. I have noticed that when I happen to be looking at my pet when it kills something the XP earned is displayed.



It has been my experience that anyone whose portrait is displayed and has a yellow circle does not steal XP. Anyone whose portrait is not displayed and has a blue circle does steal XP.

Pets do not steal XP. Nor does party members in camp steal XP.

In your experience, is it only killing blow or does it matter who did the bulk of the damage?  That is, if the wolf does the bulk and you get the killing blow do you get exp?

From what I can tell, whoeever gets the killing blow gets the XP. Whether or not the pet acquired XP goes to your XP bar as well, well, like I said, that seems to vary. But I have seen instances beyond any shadow of a doubt where the pet got multiple killing blows in a row and I got 0 XP each time. (I checked the XP bar before and after each kill once I started to suspect this was the case)

From my understanding everyone in your party gets XP from a kill, but the person who delivers the killing blow gets BONUS xp.

If this is the case, I'm pretty sure if non-party members or pets get the killing blow they get the BONUS xp (and thereby steal it).

Note that I have not actually tested this (and lack of a combat log makes doing so a Pain in the Arse)

Exactly. Everyone will still get the base amount

what about pet xp bar then ? i noticed it is always zero for me Tryiing at the moment ranger archer so would be nice to know does pet lvls and how ? since he has always zero xp and for wolf lvl 6 (( suprisingly strong tank for such lvl ))

EDIT : he seem to lvl when i lvl also but not realy sure how since im lvl 10 wolf is lvl 7 why does he have xp bar though since he dosnt get any
