Anyone Else Think It's Ridiculous That People Are Seeking Refunds?

First and foremost, let's all agree that while ME3's ending did not live up to the epicness that it could have been, the gameplay leading up to the end was nothing short of pure brilliance and excellent gameplay mechanics. Now that BW has offically responded to everyone's outcry about changing the ending I think this whole thing should die down.

One thing however has me pretty disgusted with the mass effect community, and that is the fact that people are demanding a refund for the game (Amazon and origin reportedly are). To the people who are asking for refund: Tell me you did not enjoy the playing through ME3 up until the ending; it was pure gaming bliss. To ask for a refund after completing  the game is a slap to the face of all the BW employees who gave you this amazing series.

This post might get flammed by the typical "Fan boy" response. To that i say, BW has provided me with the best trilogy of gaming that i have experienced in my life. So screw you guys :D!

Not really? If you are dissatisfied with a product, why shouldn't you get a refund for it?

People seek refunds on anything they don't like, it's not a new concept.

I don't see how that is ridiculous.

People bought a product under false pretenses set by the executive producer of the game. Therefore they have every right to get a refund.

Having worked in retail for many years, no, it's not ridiculous. It's expected. I certainly wouldn't force someone to keep a product if they feel unsatisfied with it. A game is no different than a dress, a pair of shoes, a gadget, a chair, etc.

Nope.

It's a consumers right to return a product that they feel is inferior, or didn't advertise to the promises the developers made about said product.

Mass Effect 3 is an incomplete product.

Bioware stated: No A, B, C ending. They promised us this.
Bioware gave us: A, B, C ending. They broke their promise.

People bought into their universe and invested hundreds of hours, and then they were lied to.

Refunds are deserved.

And whether or not the product satisfied them up until the end is irrelevant. You wouldn't keep a shoe that fell apart after one walk, even if it happened at the end of it. You wouldn't keep a shirt that began to fray after a big event.

It's a legal right in most cases. Game gets miss-sold you get your money back because you were not sold what was promised.

The problem I see is that there is going to be those to take advantage of this by playing and beating the game and returning it for a refund because they are cheap. Kind of like the people that order a steak at a restaurant and ask for it comped because it was not cooked right after they ate the whole thing.

I...sort of have to disagree here with the majority. Maybe I shouldn't compare movies and video games but...if you went to see a movie and walked out (as the end credits roll) and demanded your money back because you didn't like it, you aren't getting your money back.

No, I love the game, and I liked the ending.

But if people really want to get rid of it that badly, I think its fine.

I absolutely hated Sword of the Stars 2, even though there were a lot of huge fanboys of the game, or people who just didn't mind. It doesn't matter what they thought though, and I ended up getting a refund.

Its a hard thing to say with games though, especially single player focused ones, because you fall into the problem of beating it, then getting your money back (basically renting it for free). But in cases like this I think its the best idea to side with the consumer.

Anyway the internet will vastly blow the issue out of proportion, don't think its going to make even the smallest dent on the bottom line. I'd be surprised if even 0.5% of the copies were returned, even considering the outrage. You have to remember that the greater majority of players won't even beat the game, much less post about it online or whatever.

Of course it's ridiculous. There was no false advertising, everything about the game was delivered as promised, it works fine and on top of all of that it's a fantastic game. Children are just dumb and apparently don't understand how consumerism or the law work.

I see the validity in what you guys are saying. So to those of you who are returning the product when DLC comes out (whether it be free to 10$) will you rebuy the game to get your satisfaction?

Nope, but if you BUY the movie, you CAN return them. Also, leaving during a movie because it sucks you CAN get a refund. So your anaology is irrelevant.

Yes there was:

Bioware: we promise, no ABC ending!

Mass Effect 3: ABC ending.

That and the fact they'd led us into ME3 with such high quality of care and attention to story telling that the gaping holes in the final feel like an insult to the amount of hours we invested.

Yes. Regardless of the very end, the whole game lives up to the Mass Effect name, its brilliantly done and is very much repayable.

They just needed to work the ending better.

Amazon disagrees.
