I would understand it if he had an heir, but he didn't. He needlessly put himself in the way of danger.

Important for whom, exactly? Not every king is obligated to treat his position as family-run business, especially when it's the nobles of their country not the king that have the final say whether the candidate actually gets to get the job.Behindyounow wrote...

As for what kind of idiot.. this guy for example: http://en.wikipedia....h_von_Jungingen Not a king but the head of a powerful order just the same.

I get the attraction girls might of had for Haer'Dalis or Bishop but tweedle dumb and dumber I just don't get it. Then again I'm not a women or gay so maybe I'm missing something but I doubt it.
Standards... like she was being paid to do it?
Recall she was an assassin that often slept with her marks before killing them. Whether it was by choice or not, there's still strong indication she still 'got around'.
She seduced them doesn't actually say she slept with them all and she's a bard not an assassin she may have did the odd questionable job but not anywhere near the extent of Zevran.
However that's really not the point Haer'Dalis was a man hore as well yet I still see the attraction Zevran not so much I don't get how incompetence is an attraction.

If you don't get him at all, then you must not do well with women. I'm wish you could hear my voice because I'm not being facetious at all. I mean it. His romance is hands down the most fantastic experience in this game. And it's precisely because he's so innocent and bumbling and honest.
However, that being said, Zevran is now my favorite romance, not because the romance is so special, it's not really, but because he is so special. What he becomes is special. I'm always more impressed at someone that can change despite having every reason in the world not to do so. And Zevran is a typical example of that. All he's been taught in life is to regard love as disdainful and yet he somehow manages not only to fall for your character, he manages to do so in a way that is wholehearted and endearing.
The romance itself = cheap and a little creepy. The end result, however, when you reach love = priceless.
It's exactly the opposite with Alistair. Even if you end up with him, knowing what you know about his other decisions, taints him.
I can't romance him whole heartedly knownig he'd dump my elf at the first opportunity. And I can't take his sacrificing himself for me at the dragon seriously, knowing that if I conscripted Loghain he would've walked off the battlefield.
Anyway... that's my take on Alistair and I'm going to try the romances with Leliana and Morrigan, even though I haven't been able to stand Morrigan in my party for even one of 11 play throughs.
I've also gotten to the point where I kiss Leliana, but then I just can't go through with it. What if she stole my shoes????

So first play through I was an elf, totally enamored of Alistair. I twinkled down to my little toes every time he kissed me. I marveled at his rose, I got goosebumps during our romantic ---ahem---night. I giggled at his talks with everyone.. and made him king and he DUMPED ME!!!
The racist jerk DUMPED ME!!!
So I made a human noble, romanced him again, romanced zevran, DUMPED AListair, slept with Zev, did the deed with him like 80 times in one night, right next to Alistair! (secretly hoping his disapproval went down with every roll in the hay). Then I went to Denerim, recruited Loghain, made Anora queen, gave the finger to Alistair as he threw his tantrum and ran off, giggled in delight while I ran off with Zevran to live happily ever after.
Take that you prig!

I think you misunderstand what bards are in Dragon Age.

What kind of idiot king, lets see, Alexander the Great (he was famous for taking the head of the main charges in his battles, taking great risks), Richard I of England (the Lionheart), Henry V of England, Julius Ceasar (admitedly not a king) moved to the front of the lines at times when the crucial moment of the battle had arrived, allowing his legoniaries to see him in his red cloak take to the front of the field (he did this during his Gallic campaigns), and Alfred the Great I think, Harold and William the Conquer during the battle of Hastings i 1066.
So yep, allot of kings have done it during the days of ancient and medieval war, it was a vital point to encouring your men and bolstering their morale to see their king or leader at the for-front of their army, enouraging them at the main moments.

Are you sure you don't mean bumbling fool? Sten hit the nail on the head when he goes on about how incompetent he is. Honestly I wouldn't trust him to assassinate a chicken not because he couldn't morally handle it just because I'd give it a 50/50 he'd F it up or end up sleeping with it.

Pro-tip: competence of fictional character when it comes to slaughter of virtual poultry can be rated largely irrelevant when it comes to romance with such character. Women are weird like that.Jacks-Up wrote...

Yeah. You showed him you didn't care about his feelings and that you valued him more as a tactical asset than a lover or friend. And then he dumped you for the exact same reasons.
Shock.

The Black City != Hell. No one is sent there as punishment. According to the Chantry, what 'bad' souls get is wandering the Fade, lost for all eternity. So, technically, the title of this thread should have been "Rot in the Fade, Alistair!"
Thank you for letting me get that off of my chest.
I'll let it go without saying that I disagree with the statement, of course. Gah...I said it, so I guess I couldn't let it go without saying, huh? Ah, well.

Yes, but as far as anyone knows, no one can get there. Or, if the story is correct, no one has gone there since the Magisters turned it black by their presence.
Certainly none of the major religions use it as a Hell substitute, anyway.
Sorry, I know it's a nerdy thing to even mention, but what can I say?

Oh, it was purely nerd solidarity, that giggle. And I did want to clarify the distinction.
Yes, I'm THAT much of a nerd.

Perhaps the OP wishes Alistair to rot in the Black City because it would be empty. Unlike the Fade that still has spirits and demons to converse with?

This is possible. To steal a Fireflyism, he could be going to the "Special Hell."

You have to admit, however, that the ability to slaughter virtual poultry can be quite amusing at times. Shale, for example.
As to Mr. Jacks-Up's original complaint, if you cannot fathom why women would like Alistair or Zevran but somehow are able to understand attraction to *Bishop*, my sincerest condolences to whichever women you know caused you to draw that conclusion.
The female gamers seem perfectly capable of complaining about their own romance options. If you want to complain about characters you don't like, I'm sure you can do so without the pretext of championing female gamer equality on the side.

So it's a condemnation to an eternity of boredom? Is that a fate worse than death? Maybe he will meet magical flying dogs?

Well Bishop is just your run of the mill typical Bad Boy that's easy to get. Alistair and Zevran are you run of the mill typical stooges.
