Good way to show that we didn't get what we were expecting and that "art" really has nothing to do with promises unfulfilled.

I will give a specific example out of my only playthrough of the way choice appears to have been ignored. Spoilers are allowed.

My character from Mass Effect killed Urdont Wrex on Vermire so Urdnot Wreave was the Urdnot clan leader (good). Mordin survived the suicide mission from Mass Effect 2 and we kept Malon's data (good). On Surkesh, Wreave starts howling about how the galaxy is going to pay for the injustice of the Genophage and will not calm down despite Eve and Shepard's best efforts (okay). Shepard decides that she will not be responsible for restarting the Krogan wars and that the Genophage will not be cured. She lies to Eve and Mordin twice. To prevent Mordin from curing the Genophage, Shepard shoots Mordin. Mordin dies just short of getting to the shroud to distribute cure.

There is absolutely no consequence to this. Why!? Okay so obviously in the joy of hope the krogan may not initially see that their birth rates are not increasing but with a race like the krogan, I would expect consequences some time.

This is still minor compared to omniscient god/star/synth child who while supposedly knows all and sees all could not see let alone predict the possibility that organics would figure out a counter for the cycle and actually manage to reach it. This same child god thing somehow improvises a way to wipe out the mass relays and Shepard goes along with it without so much as a by your leave.

If you have a need to simply blow up the Mass Effect galaxy, just follow your own fiction and don't pull it out of a hat piecemeal then have the gall to one pimp DLC immediately and two, then sell an app telling everybody how great you are.

somehow I can't read it all and Not feel that bitterness again when I first came to their A.B.C ending.

if at the very least they might want to address those quotes by them first and how it ties into what we got, if that is all possible, which I doubt.

That Hudson quote about not making an A B or C ending is baffling. That is EXACTLY what it is!

It's what we call in layman's terms, a blatant ****ing lie.

This is a great post, and probably the top reason(s) that I had such an issue with the endings. Had all of these claims not been made, I probably would have been more "ho-hum" about the endings rather than feeling the sting of “betrayal” (perhaps too strong of a word).

I appreciate the OP taking the time to catalogue these claims but would remind everyone to be CIVIL and RESPECTFUL when commenting about this. Calling BioWare names or using course language undermines the intent of this message and makes us look like little more than entitled jerks.

I think what's amazing about these is like- they are such willful deliberate lies.

After reading this and what mr. Muzyka wrote my blood pressure jumped again. How the hell these people can lie to their core fans just to rip them off for a few bucks?! It's even more insulting than this disastrous ending!!

Bioware why?

A question I have been asking myself since I beat the game.

As much as I'd like a new ending, even if it included the Indoc. Theory and was planned by evil geniuses, it won't really repair the trust like an addressing of these and an apology would.
Even had they planned it all along and those countless mistakes aren't mistakes, it still doesn't change the fact we didn't buy the full game which included closure and no questions afterwards, though the bigger one is the inability to get all the endings just though the single player alone.
Even in this best case scenario, they deffinately need to do more, ambitious as the idea maybe be, it still leaves a bad precedent and unpleasant implications for many.

I think this is something we've all been wondering. These are clearly some very talented people, as we can see from the rest of the game, so how on earth did they think these ending(s) were a good idea?

This is almost as sore a point of contention as the plot holes for me. I bought the game based on the information given in these articles.

There's no way they can get out of this mess unscathed, but if they can address our concerns and admit they screwed up, it would go a long way.

See my sig for how I would personally like to see this done.

This is the thing. No disrespect to the people who enjoyed the ending, that's their right. But they can't in any way disagree that we were misled. They can't say that those quotes are in any way accurate to the game we were given. And they can't say it isn't reasonable to feel let down, purely because we believed what we were told.

Another, minor yet related point, to the folks who actually liked the ending - there's no saying that we can't all be happy. We got three endings (six, if you count the Earth damage variants), we were promised sixteen. There's no reason they couldn't leave the endings you like in there, while giving everyone more options, more explanation, more personalisation, and more variety.

Always depressing to see it all laid out like that, but yeah; glad this is all still being posted.

Budget and Time will always be a hurdle for game developers, but false promises do not engender customer loyalty.

And whenever someone tries to say that the expectations of this series were unreasonable, I think this:

BioWare's claim to fame is its ability to craft stories that reflect player choice. From a design implementation perspective this is effectively matter of organizing a series of "if-then" statements. This is C-Basic programming. And the rest of the gameplay is essentially just a series of Gears of War levels and cut-scenes. Meanwhile, Bethesda gives us Skyrim, with freaking Dragons that you and any NPCs and creatures around you interact with in real time. Their final product seemed too good to be true and yet they managed to actually deliver on their promises.

Huh. And expecting BioWare to deliver something that they've already shown they could do is unreasonable...
