I guess I was one of the lucky ones? Still, even in the best of circumstances, the transformation between 2 and 3 seems just a little... Off. This is my Shepard, Joss, through all three games.

Posted Image

She wasn't completely mangled in the last import, however, something about the textures departs from the more realistic look of the previous two games. I'd be lying if I said I could quite put my finger on it, but the eyes seem to be the worst offender.

Previously they had depth and appeared more realistic. In ME3, they just look flat.

I had a lot of issues getting my Shepard not just to look right, but to animate as smoothly as she had in the first two games. My quest to get her back to 'normal' sent me through the wide world of modding tools.

I collected them all here: Mass Effect 3 Import Tools, or getting Shepard to look like her old self.

Posting it here in case anyone else finds it helpful.

Yuk :)

Close, but no cigar.  Mainly the eyes are wrong I think.

EDIT: Sorry, these images are much larger than you think :)

Could you be a little bit more specific? Any error massage?

No error, it just shows a completely different face...
I tried copying the code from ME2 but it wouldn't let me put it exactly (1 number changes) and anyway, this code gives a completely different face...

It is most probably that you have a wrong face code stored in your ME2 save games. Are you on a PC?

Yes I am, and I think you're right.
I think I actually managed to solve the problem myself:
I started a new game in ME2 with the imported character from the first game, and no code appeared.
Then I used ME tools to get the character code, and tweaked some of the other stuff there.
It didn't come out perfect, but it's close enough.
I think what they need to patch now is ME2, that changes the code for your original character for some unknown reason... They shouldn't leave the community to rely on outside sources to be able to properly transfer the character.

Another way is to use Gibbet mass effect 2 save editor. The procedure is explained here.

social.bioware.com/group/7281/discussion/21580/&p=2
(my second post.)

Forget all stuff for the Xbox, make a back up of your save games and then start with "Open Gibbed."
On the end you don't have to rename your save game, just save in a new slot.

You don't need Lazarus, just remove the Face code from your ME2 save game.
1.) Open Gibbed ME2 save editor.
2.) Load the save game you wish to import to ME3.
3.) Click on the "Raw" Tab
4.) Expand "Player"
5.) Scroll down to "Face Code"
6.) Delete the Code.
7.) save in another slot.

Through this ME3 is forced to read the RAW data from your ME2 save game.

Say, using Gibbed gives me the exact character? Not like Mass Effect Tools which screws up some parameters?

You can only determinate this by testing it.  Some things are simply missing in ME3.
There is nothing you can do wrong (if you back your you save games, and save, in Gibbed, in another slot. Don't override the save game you opened.)

download Gibbed
Go ahead with the instructions above.
Import the save game without the face code into ME3

The whole action takes about 5 minutes.

Still bugged in my latest patched version of ME3 on the PC, I am getting the male face that often crops up when importing, nothing like what I have been playing as.

Lazarus helped a lot, but there are still some issues with my Shep face I don't know how to fix :?
Her cheekbones used to be better outlined in ME2 and her jaw was slightly more squared. But that, I can live with. The thing I'd really know how to edit is her brow. Before Lazarus, though Shep didn't looked at all like my Shep, there was no clipping with the brow and the eyes. It does since Lazarus.

I'm kinda of a newbie with 3D editing so those vecters things in Lazarus looked just like "ooooh shiniiiies" for me.I understand I could change it with Gibbed too, but I don't know which parameters should be changed.
If anyone has an idea ?

Is anyone importing scarred renegade characters and getting the bug? Just wondering if that was a cause for the generic face that comes up.

-edit

Here was my ME2 code for the devs or anyone interested that doesn't come up right, it originally came from ME1 and he had a scar there (which might also be the cause as it doesn't transition to ME2).

541.DJD.LTF.A3G.AAV.JBD.MDJ.6PG.G72.AG1.645.4

Here is the raw generated ME 3 data when the above code is removed:

251.GDH.LJE.18H.CFW.R99.ATB.6BA.1B6.366.E26.5

I fixed it by deleting the face code in the ME2 save file, as was thankfully shown above. His face came out quite well when generated by the ME3 character gen from the raws, not as round as it was, but its okay, with a bit of tweaking he'll be ready to go. My gratitude sent for the help given in this thread to give me the experience I want.

I've had mixed results with the patch.

ME1 characters imported in ME2 have mostly been within tolerances. However, I have experienced three noticeable issues post-patch:

1) Characters (such as my original canon shepard) who picked up a face code on their way through ME2 don't import properly. ME3 prefers the incorrect face code over attempting to approximate the face actually used in the prior two games.
2) There is a known fix(involving a saved-game editor) for issue 1, but implementing it still leaves my redheaded canon Shepard as a blonde. Her original hair color seems to have gone missing entirely.
3) The ME1/ME2 default FemShep face is unrecognizable post-import.

Will there be any effort to further correct the import process? We've come a long way from "Just plain doesn't work, period" but we have a way to go yet.

AFAIK there hasn't even been an official acknowledgement of the issues still existing even after the patch. So I don't think there's anything in the works. They have your money and they released a courtesy patch to haul in some remaining reluctant buyers. But by now there's little (more) to gain from fixing the issue(s). The hot sales phase is over and we're left with no leverage. Those who buy now as it's on sale and in deal packages don't really care about these issues.

It seems to me that it would be so much easier to correct this stuff if you could customize an imported face. As it is, if you choose "customize appearace", you have to start with the default face all over again. If you could start with the face you imported, then you wouldn't have to worry about Shepard having, say, bleached eyebrows.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Bioware could you make the original red haircolor and the new default femshep hairstyle available for all characters?

This would make a lot of fans happy and save us a lot of time and frustration trying to mod.

Lots of hugs and cookies if you include it in a patch sometime!
