The only reason they would consider making it free is because you supposed "fans" are banding together to lie about the overall quality of the game to potential new customers. 

It's a really sleazy tactic and a good example of why the "hardcore" fans aren't owed any loyalty.  You're willing to sabotage the game and the company for trivial, self-gratifying reasons.  It's fine, companies are only after your money as it is, but I wouldn't walk around pretending you're any better. 

Mass Effect 3 was well worth it's retail price.  Extra content should cost extra.  That's all.
