Hehe it's drawn out the lurkers .
I'd visit the forums but I didn't start posting until the ending of ME3 happened!

The rep said that 9% actually post and 90% lurk. She also said that if 20% post that is off the charts. Lets get 30% of the lurkers posting and blow the charts up. That should show that we mean business and we are NOT a minority! We are the voice of the majority!

---- Update ----

Yes = Frequently used forums before ME3
No = Did not frequently use forums before ME3

So I have been watching it from the start and have noticed a pretty resilient trend. Since we got about 20+ people voting the ratio has been an almost constant (Yes)1:4(No) with a 5% variation. Even as the numbers increased it stayed around (Yes)20% and (No) 80%

If the 90/9/1 bit that Jessica wrote is true then the 20% (Poll) would represent the 10% (9+1) that participated in discussions on the forum before this event. That is a normal forum participation ratio

The 80% (poll) would mean that since ME3 has been released the Lurkers/repliers/starters has changed to 50/45/5 (Keeping same ratio). Jessica said that 20% forum participation is off the charts and it just jumped to 50% participation! I think that these numbers show that something has definitely changed recently and it has made more people participate in Mass Effect Discussions.

333 participants are a very good sample size, lets see if we can get 1000 voting in this thing. Statistics do not lie and NO one can deny unbiased polls. About a week ago I seen a poll about the endings and I thought it had 30,000 votes in it. I think we have enough statistics for a good argument to be made.

I put yes, but I hadn't posted since DA2s last DLC. I was quite active then though.

Nope. I may have posted a total of 2 or 3 times before the ME3 debacle and I can't even remember what it was about.

Now watching BSN like a hawk for news is my new hobby.

I have posted before the endings of this game. However my usage before this has been sporadic at best. I posted some when Origins came out and more when DA2 came out, and a little on the ME3 forums pre-release. I don't know if this qualifies as frequently though.

I've been posting here since the forum opened. I used to post on the previous Mass Effect forums before the forums were moved here.

Yes, I posted quite a lot about DA2's horrid ending, where it didn't matter which side Hawke chose; it still plunged Ferelden into war. Here we go again, doesn't matter which pill Shep swallows, the galaxy will still be plunged into apocalyptic darkness, doom and disaster.

I, also admit, I am one of the Co-op MP haters, so I posted quite a bit about first finding out it was included after being told it wouldn't be, and then being reassured by Bioware it wouldn't be needed for the optimal ending, even though it would still be forced into my SP game, but, I believed them and sat silent afterwards. That didn't turn out so well.

I, now, remember many PR quotes about how they cared about Shepard as much as we did and would make sure the last game was befitting of a video-game hero that would not soon be forgotten. Well, I guess, that's partially true, just not in a good way, since, I thought it was bad enough when Shep was forced, through game mechanics, to kill 305,000 Batarians, I wanted to scream the dozens of times in game I heard the "disgraced Commander Shepard" in the news vids. I will play through once more, I must be a sadist, but this ME2 import uninstalled Arrival so I better not hear that news vid at all this time.

But, no, no it gets worse, in ME3 she commits the galactic genocide of many species. And, these aren't Thane-type clean kills, though, they may be quick, either in the next few seconds when 3km Reaper ships start crashing to earth, or the Citadel blowing apart spewing pieces of 45km arms everywhere, or quite slow, because all the forces she gathered are now stuck in the Sol system because the Charon Relay was destroyed.

I can't be silent anymore. It's an unfolding horror, I just want to scream.

*goes back under the covers*

Bump for justice.

Also, I never even knew about this forum until I found it in a fit of desperation after finishing the ending.

Nope, the ending left me at a "loss" on what the f*** just happened in the ME universe.
Then I googled and found the ReTakeME facebook page which then led me to BSN where I have an existing EA account from playing DAO and ME2. And so I thought, BSN is the best place to directly send the message to BioWare and let them know of my dissatisfaction.

This forum gets me through the dry spells between games. Fan art, fanfiction, the Zevran community. As I have mentioned before I am not a gamer I am a Bioware gamer. At least I was...

HOLDING THE LINE. A NEW SUBSCRIBER TO FORBES MAGAZINE. I spend my money on my convictions. Forbes got the money I would have used to purchase DLC

I typically don't lurk or hang around.

Though I do remember spending a grand amount of time after DA2.  (Not griping about bugs, but engaging in the throwdowns over the character of Anders)

Though I did frequent the Jackolyte threads for quite a bit.

Voted ... I've been posting "fairly often" since ME2 came out. I pulled away from the forums close to ME3 release time so I wouldn't get spoiled so I took the full force of the ending disappointment 99% unprepared.

I used to post some a while ago, but I went dark around March/April of last year.

After the ending of ME3 I came back to see if anyone else was horribly confused by the ending, and I noticed they were.

Before actually experiencing the ending, I had never visted or posted on these forums. I'd never really bothered reading any reviews/criticisms/articles on Mass Effect before getting to the ME3 ending because I was happy with the games put out as they were. I made sure that I didn't read any links/spoilers/etc about it. Went throught he game with no concept of how it was going to end.

I got to the end and was so disappointed I had to actually alt-tab the game and leave for a while before coming back and picking one of the colors just to actually finish it out. It was a thoroughly depressing and frustrating experience. Not what I was looking forward to in ME3 as the finish to an otherwise epic 5 year 130+ hour journey.

Now? I've spent a good chunk of my free time on these forums since then. The ending really was just that poorly fitting.

Did you used to post on the Bioware forums often before you Watched/Heard/Read about Mass Effect 3's ending?

http://social.biowar...46/polls/30235/

Reply to topic to keep it bumped. Lets get Bioware some useful Statistics for our behaviors.

From Jessica Merizan community manager

2B) My intention to that person was to say that more people need to vocalize their opinion, positive or negative. When we insulate ourselves in tight-knit communities, it's harder to see that most people aren't doing that. Not the same most people however, just most people in different situations. An example I used is the 90-9-1 principle or the 1% rule (which is all over the internet and I studied it during my master's coursework in media consumption at University College London, namedrop intentional as people have recently accused me of being unable to read and interpret statistics or data, something I'm very good at and pride myself on).

3) The above rule is quite simple. 90% of consumers will passively engage in the product through consumption (such as playing a video game). They might lurk on forums or read articles. 9% of these people will take it a step further and actively engage in discussions and talk. These are the people that you rely on for WOM sales (word of mouth). They'll "like" a post on Facebook, share it to their wall, reply to a forum thread, RT or reply to something on Twitter. Then you have people who take it one step further and create content based on the original product. These are your fan artists, cosplayers, and even as simple as someone who starts a forum thread or makes a youtube video.

Lets see if that holds true. I am thinking things have changed since the ME3's ending. I used to be a lurker but now I am active.

What is the sound of one forehead smacking?  Why didn't I think of this?  We were talking with Jess the other day about precisely these metrics she could glean from the forums.

While a poll by itself is certainly not something to go by alone, and the metrics she can pull are important (MAN i'd really like to see them), simply ASKING people did not, for some silly reason, occur to me .  Well done xD.

Edit: oh yeah, here's a study that explains the cited 90-9-1 rule of Participation Inequality, for those interested:
