Proponents of "artistic integrity" and the original endings act like new endings would somehow erase the original endings from existence. Why not just give the player choice between them, and get the best of both worlds? Choice is a major point of Mass Effect and a major factor in its advertising.
And isn't the whole point of ending the trilogy that the writers are no longer constrained by having to plan for sequels, so they can end the story on widely divergent notes if need be, without caring about tying it all back together later?
