To whom it may concern

After reading the blog post by Dr. Ray Muzyka on the Bioware
blog. I thought I would send this to Bioware in the hope that it would be added
to the research you are doing for your “content initiatives”.

I have played and followed Mass Effect from its start and to my best knowledge
is the most played game I have ever owned.

There are two issues I have with the ending and the end of the game – ending
being the fight to retake Earth and the end being on the citadel.

I have completed the game twice one with my ultimate renegade and one with my paragon.
I only counted 3 very minor differences
in the cut scene: a line from Joker; a quick shot of a Geth and seeing the destiny
ascension. In terms of the ending game play there is no difference other than
at the rally point before the final push one or two characters are in the base.
My question/ issue is what was the point of being a paragon or renegade if at
the end of the day nothing is effected? Why is it possible to get the exact
same ending no matter what choices you make?

Second the end. The end of ME3 is amazing if the indoctrination theory is
correct. If it’s not correct then it does not make any sense and in my opinion demeans
the brand of Bioware – with the plot wholes etc.

Assuming that the indoctrination theory is true–  and very good in my opinion. There is still a  problem that to end the game with at best Sheppard
half breathing under rubble is not an ending. We were told in E3 and other
press events that ME3 would finish Sheppard’s story. As it stands it does not.
I can understand how you may have thought it did but really is having one
ending that is different by colour of explosions really a worthy ending of a
plot line that has spanned over three games? It’s not the bad ending (eg Sheppard
dying the mass relays blowing up etc) that’s the problem is the fact that
nothing you have done throughout the game/ games has any effect on the end of
your story – that’s what makes it ‘bad’.

The only thing I can think of is that you wanted to cause this debate so people
would argue and discuss this over and over until you realised a DLC that
completed the game showing what happens after you beat/ fail the indoctrination
sequence. If this is the case and the DLC is free it’s fine, in fact a really
great idea to use new media in this way to enhance the player’s concept of the
game. However if the DLC is charged it’s like selling a book with the last few
pages missing and being charged to see them.  Which would be a rather cheep thing to do.

To sum up my point the end of the game as it stands makes
no sense for it to be the end of the game. That’s the problem.

Yours faithfully

Steven Jarnell
