A capitol ship was torn apart by multiple ships, not by one, not by the Normandy. It's not really a "boss fight" if it's the Galaxy Armada against one Reaper ship.

I could go with a cinematic showing Harbinger be destroyed by the armada, but a boss fight is just nonsense.

.....the same armada that the Normandy is fighting along side.  There are several ways this can be done, you just have to think past a brute force "just kill it" approach.

I would like to fight Harbinger by breaching his hull somehow, and going inside to destroy his core, just like the derelict Reaper.

I'm pretty sure that I would be disappointed with the Harbinger problem never being dealt with personally. That Reaper is a larger "rival" to Shepard than Sovereign ever was. Harbinger was in more games, but still...the leader of the Reapers needs more of a voice for the end of the game at least to make the ending of him to be more dramatic and awe-inspiring. Hell, I don't think he think he speaks to Shepard at all in the ME3 IIRC.

An ending where you go inside Harbinger and destroy him from within? Ill take that.

I'm fine with there not being one, the whole fight up to the beam situation was plenty intense, and big bad end monster just for the sake of having one isn't a must in my book. No objections to them as such, as long as they fit the story.

Then again, what would Marauder Shields do with all his years of training? He'd probably have to be nerfed if he was no longer a boss.

I was really hoping for a big showdown with Harbringer, but only if they can fight him in naturally and not awkwardly throwing him in so Shep can have someone to fight.

This is probably the best idea I've heard. I can just imagine it: going solo against a never ending onslaught of husks, with Harbinger's taunts in the background!

People complained that ME2 had a boss fight with a reaper. They remove it, and now that same fanbase demands they put a reaper boss fight in?

i don't get this fanbase at all.

I think most people thought the human reaper was fine.

I think what they didn't like is that it was the final boss and the ending to ME2 left so much open and followed by a huge ****tease with the reapers in dark space.

Well I for one did not, and was fairly vocal about it.
Human reaper with Harbinger's taunts in the background was a boss fight for the sake of a boss fight, and was cheesy as hell.

The subsequent scenes with Shepard and TIM, and then the tease of the reapers at the edge of the galaxy was the absolute highlight of the ending, which made up for the horrible boss.

Not a bad idea, but he won't just open up and let you in after what the Krogan and Turians did.  I'd prefer a fight via the normandy, but this is fine too if he's first shown having a hole blown in him via the fleets.

Of course, there's always a risk it'd turn out like this which, while funny, doesn't win you any wars.

It's the only way I can think where you directly fight Harbinger and kill him with your own hands. Killing a reaper by ripping it apart from within sounds appropriately triumphant to me, an ultimate act of strength from Shepard. The process of getting there can be an epic level all its own. The assault on the Collector base was one of the most intense moments in gaming for me, from level design to music to risk and choices.

Other options for fighting Harbinger don't feel as personal as this. You could have the fleet obliterate him somehow. You could also fight him as an avatar of some kind, but that feels too similar to Saren for my tastes.

Eh, I like the fleet option myself.

Not necessary. Its not like one can fight a Reaper., Although the catalyst might have been an interesting fight.

As explained earlier in the thread, repeatedly, it is more than possible.
