I went back through my saves in the current game looking for the point at which it was available.  Interestingly it was right in between two saves where I didn't actually do any real missions.  So I started doing the side quests that were accomplished in between the two saves sequentially to see which would unlock it.  It showed up after I "recruited" Balak.

I didn't test it to see what would happen if I shot him though.  But in my actual game I used Intimidate, and for this I used Charm.


Ah.

I shot him. And I do it every time, because I hate the guy. Any chance you could try it just shooting him, and see what happens?

*Why* on earth have they tied a mod to this? Seriously? Frustrating is too mild a word.... I wonder whether this type of thing is the reason why I can't find the Shredder V mod too..... I'm supposed to get the damn thing from the BSA shop as well. I HATE BATARIANS.

Any idea whereabouts I need to mod the save to make the AR mag V appear? I seem to recall there's a list of mods somewhere, and the level of the current mod just needs to be set...

EDIT: Nevermind, found it in the list. Ah, my whole black and red arsenal, feels like my Spectre HMW kit is back..... :D

Yes on both accounts. When I can get back to the game I will shoot him and see what happens. For science.

As for the editing, open up the save editor, open the save, then go to the Raw tab. Look for Plot, then Player Variables. Open the Collection. All of the weapons and mods basically have SFX then their name. Look for "SFXGameContent.SFXWeaponMod_AssaultRifleMagSize" then set the value to 5.

I'm now 99% sure that all the problems with weapon mods that I've seen are tied to that damn BSA store. All the mods that failed to turn up are related to it - AR extended Barrel, Mag, Shredder.... they're all from there. Damn balak. :P

Fortunately, thanks to Gibbed, he doesn't get the last laugh after all. :D

I went back and if I shot him it didn't show up, so apparently you need the Batarian Fleet to have access to all of Batarian State Arms's wares.

In fact, I redid it to pay closer attention and it actually unlocked AR Mag III, AR Extended Barrel IV, Kestrel Helmet.  I hadn't bought the Shredder from Elkoss yet, so if it is tied to it as well I would have to go back for yet another trial to prove it.  I think that this is enough for me though. :)

Yeah, cheers for the help. I'm still annoyed that such a big consequence isn't made clearer in game (hell, any clue would have been nice) but so long as I can edit saves, no harm done. I did wonder where the Kestrel helmet was going to turn up, though :D

The shredder mod, for me, is behaving the same way the AR clip is - I've picked up all the ones available on missions and bought one from another shop, but its stuck on IV. So I think I'll be updating extended barrel and shredder tonight too. Its supposed to come from BSA as a (2) mod. No need to test that :D

I might add something to the wiki to make this clearer, there's no indication on there that this is an effect of Batarian Codes.
