So I've been (re)playing ME1, have probably now put in about 20 hours. Up until last night (when I was playing through Peak 15, if that matters), it was running perfectly smoothly. I began experiencing an issue where loading save games took an extremely long time--before it had been perhaps 10-15 seconds, and now it is several minutes. I endured that, but when I started playing today, the whole game's performance had dropped off a cliff. It was very hard to even reach the title screen, as the game was frequently freezing (with looping sound) on the BioWare or EA splash screens. When I have managed to get in game, it's now quite choppy--multiple times per minute, I'll experience brief freezing. I tried reinstalling the game via Steam, but that has not corrected any of the issues.

Obviously, my computer specs are way beyond the recommended, and I haven't changed anything about my settings or drivers that could produce this change in performance. Using the support dialogue, I did lower my sound acceleration to basic--no change. I don't even know where to start diagnosing or correcting these extremely annoying issues, so any help would be appreciated.
