Anyone know if you need to hit exactly 250 in a single blow to get this achievement?

I never hit 250 exactly, but I did go a bit above, highest hit topping around 257, and no achievement.  I was using Mighty Blow with a nice hammer.

What needs to be done to get this Achievement?

You should get it anytime you deal at least 250 damage.

Hrm... I was worried about that, guess I'll have to load up an old save or hope subsequent play throughs yield me the damage.

A quick way to get it early on as a mage is to use Death Hex + Death Cloud. That's how I got mine at least.

I'd say mana clash is the easiest way.

I have a level 23 duel wield assassin/duelist and cannot get higher than 160 something. Now playing as a warrior with 2h sword and stacking strength. Hopefully that will get it.

I did it with a Vulnerability Hex and the Nightmare combo. Spellcombos and Arrow of Slaying are by far the most reliable ways to get it.

I had the same thing happen to me.  I have *twice* now, swung my sword and done upwards of 260, 270 damage and I still haven't gotten the heavy hitter achievement.

In my case, I was using  the Berserker "final blow" ability.

I'm fairly certain you don't have to hit at exactly 250 because that would be silly, and so this is probably a bug

I think the problem is it really means '250 damage in a single damage calculation'. Things like Final Blow actually make 2 calculations - the base damage of the hit/crit, plus the bonus damage you get from expending your stamina pool.

Things like Mark of Slaying, Walking Bomb, Mana Clash etc., the ones that 'work', make a single calculation that simply does a metric ****ton of damage, rather than several damage calculations added together.

Dex fix + arrow of slaying = 393, my highest hit. Did it around level 14-15 with around 60 Dex. I loled at that.

I reckong this is the easiest way, or some spell combos or a 2h blow.

Well,  if this is true then it  explains why I didn't get the heavy hitter achievement.   But it doesn't explain why the thread starter didn't.    He/she simply activated "mighty blow", which, like  all the other examples you cited, makes only one, simple calculation...

I just recently got Heavy Hitter, was quite surprised too. Am currently playing on a sword-shield/archer warrior and am around level 18 now with 42 dex or so, used Arrow of Slaying and managed to get a hit of almost 500 damage, 496 if I remember correctly. This was on easy though, but with no buffs except Song of Courage.

Wow is it possible to produce these kinda numbers as a dual wielding rogue?!! I'm a level 35 dual wielding rogue elf and i'm not producing now where near the numbers u guys are talking about. At best i'll get like a lil over a hundred with a flurry attack.

Then we are indeed looking at a bug.

I have repeatedly hit for 250+ damage using final blow, and the game did not register the Heavy Hitter achievement for me.

Heavy blow, Mana clash, Arrow of slaying, Virulent Bomb, Plenty of ways to get it, if you're not you either have it already or it's a bug.
