I imported a level 31 Shepard adept for this run, and am trying to keep loadout weights down to give me between 150 and 200 percent.

Currently I am using the basic AR with heavy barrel and recoil damper, and that heavy Salarian pistol with a scope (as an explosive semi-sniper!)  Most times I don't need to use guns at all, but sometimes the pressure is too great and I have to go to the gun.

What do you think of this set up, and what advice or what favorites do you Adept players (any difficulty level) like?

Load up with as many guns as you can carry and still have 200% cooldown reudction. Mattock is a good AR for casters: Low weight, high accuracy, decent damage.

@ raknot3, total agreement on biotic explosions. I tried just pistol and in some of the really tough fights I got swarmed [on NormaL no less :( - my fault - bad tactics]. I had a lot better luck going with a smg alone. But I really like that explosive firing pistol.

@ Butters158, in ME2 mattock was my go-to rifle for all classes except infiltrator, but it seems much less - um, well it doesn't seem as good here. Maybe after some upgrades.

I liked how the Talon handled, but I barely used it as an Adept. Also, I didn't use it much, but the Disciple was interesting, so it's an option too.

Otherwise, the Carnifex with a scope would be a solid choice or maybe the Paladin.

Does anyone run adepts with a scimitar shottie? just wondering how that would work out.

On my sentinel I used the mattock for alll the game, always with a 200% recharge time.
I suppose you can do the same with adept.
You will not fire much but if you will have to the mattock will dish out great damage both close or at range.

I think you'd need to level the Scimitar up to better counter the slightly extra weight, but there are plenty of ways to still have powers on insanely low cooldowns, I just haven't done thorough testing yet to know for certain.

i did insanity with the saber AR and nothing else, other AR's have less weight but this gun just felt right. with a scope it works as a sniper rifle in a pinch.

My loadout depends on the mission. On missions with lots of open area I take the Valiant SR. Missions with lots of peons like husks I take a shotty, I used the Katana until I unlocked the Disciple. For most other missions I used the Vindicator. But yeah the biotic explosions are the way to go with an adept. The guns are just there incase you get swarmed or the enemy is at ranges where they can dodge incoming biotics. My favorite tactic is to use stasis and then use headshots on the enemy. Its very satisfying to kill phantoms that way.

Go Go Paladin!

Seriously. OP sniper-like pistol to supplement the damage dished out via powers.

Personally, I went with Particle Rifle, Viper and Eagle. A bit of a heavy loadout (-16% cooldown penalty) but with the right gear and skill ranks I didn't really notice any cooldowns being particularly slow, and I had a potent weapon for every range and defence.

Just wish I could add a shotgun too. Scimitar makes it -147% penalty :crying:

I wonder if an upgraded Disciple will do the trick.

Paladin/carnifex is all you need on an adept, you will fire it so infrequently ammo is not an issue.

Unfortunately, weapons are completely optional for Adepts. Gimping your recharge time equals gimping your combat performance. The cooldown is actually faster than the casing animation and because you can use powers effectively against every enemy in the game there is no point to fire a single shot. Squadmates are equally redundant.

With adept my definite favourite class, my choice of weapons weighs more on their look and weight than the amount of damage they deal. An adept first source of damage should always be their biotics.

My priority is always to stay at 200% cooldown bonus though.

I usually go for the Avenger assault rifle updgraded with Stability Damper and Magazine Upgrade. Why? Because that way it makes sense to see it in Shepard's hands during cutscenes (yeah, I'm that kind of player). Also it's not as week as ME2's Avenger.

My favourite pistol is the Phalanx updgraded with High Caliber Barrel and Magazine Upgrade, which is a good balance between damage per shot and rate of fire. The Paladin packs more power but fires too slowly for my taste. Also I love the Phalanx' design and sound and the Paladin is quite expensive on a first playthrough.
Another nice pistol to at least try is the Scorpion, although it's weight means you need to sacrifice another weapon in order to keep your 200% bonus. Stasis + Scorpion is a very efficient combination to deal with Marauders.

That leaves me room for another weapon. Since the heavy pistols covers long-range I usually choose between a SMG or a shotgun.
SMG : N7 Hurricane with ultralight material and extended ammo. Useless at long range (but like I said I use pistol for that), but absolutely DEADLY at close range.
Shotgun : Disciple. Good damage/accuracy at close range and as light as the Avenger. Also cool design.

So usually my loadout is Avenger + Hurricane + Phalanx, which lets me deal with most situation :

Avenger : good for cover fire or blind fire through smoke.
Phalanx : to deal with thougher opponents (brutes, banshees... you name it) while my powers are on (very short) cooldown.
Hurricane : for any ennemy getting too close.

I played Adept with only a scorpion until i got the kassa locust.
Scorpion + Locust = :DD
Nothing like shooting timed mines on helpless floating targets when throwing them around :33

I think thats the point - there's little point in maintaining a +200% recharge boost as you physically can't take advantage of it, since the animations take longer to run than the cooldowns.

I honestly think the positive recharge bonus was a last minute addition, as it basically removes any and all challenge from the game on an Adept. 'Gimping' myself by reducing a cooldown I can't take advantage of in the first place isn't that much of a loss, particularly when I get access to all these awesome guns.

I really like the Carnifex, and oddly enough, the Talon. The talon is pretty great, even at mid-range. If you don't mind getting up close and personal, the Eviscerator is a really fun weapon too. There's something really satisfying about trapping someone in a Singularity and blowing them out of the sky with a shotgun.

Take whatever weapon you want for the fun factor. You don't need to try to min/max weapons as an adept - just keep your weapon weight at +200% cooldown.

I go through battles without firing a shot on insanity - biotic combo explosions rule supreme.

Yeah, I just wish I could fit the scimitar into my weight limit. I never set out to have +200% cooldown but the weight of shotties in this game just hammers my cooldown rate - carrying a basic one adds something like -130% to my cooldown modifier, too damn high.

At the start I was all about the avenger just for the +200% cooldown, as you get better weight carrying and/or find some lightweight materials for SMG's you can branch out into "better" guns.

A scope is pretty useful for an adept. Hated it in ME2, but seems much smoother in ME3.
