How was ripping off Deus Ex and the Matrix original? How was ending the game with a pop-up ad artistic?

How about we just get them to deliver what they promised?

That just made my day. :lol:

Deus Ex called. They wanted their endings back.

Seriously, though, there's nothing 'original' about the ending. It's outright plagiarism, but the worst part of it is that it isn't even good plagiarism. It doesn't fit or make sense of the crucial last 10 minutes of the game.

Their endings were flawed. We want those endings to be better. Wouldn't they have explained the endings clearly to us otherwise?

Think of the end of Return of the Jedi. Now of ME3. There are some big differences analogy wise.

People aren't upset about the artfulness or creativity of the ending. People are upset because they were promised certain, specific things about this product. After purchasing the product, they discovered that the product did not contain these things that they were promised. It's that simple.

Please explain to me how this ending is original. It basically took BSG's "god did it" approach and applied it to the endings of Deus Ex.

Artistic endings are fine - as long as the audience knows what they're getting into ahead of time.

And even if they weren't, and fans ask for a change, and the company reciprocates, that doesn't mean everyone who wanted the artistic ending is SOL. Think of the DLC as an *optional* alternate end. :)

Contrary to popular belief, being a hipster is not original, it's just ironic. There was nothing "creative" about that ending, it's been done many times before, but in games/movies where it actually makes sense.

Not making sense != originality
Not providing closure != originality
Not providing the promised choices and impact of player decision != originality

If this victory means that in the future, game endings will make sense, provide closure, and deliver what's promised, I see that only as a good thing.

Is it strange that I'm not sure if you are for or against the endings right now?

This confused me too... I mean, call it art if you want; but 3 essentially identical endings to a series based on choice do not represent creativity.

Nonsense.

First of all, "creative freedom" is a bit of a misnomer when applied to Mass Effect, as it is largely a player-driven narrative. We write the story.

Second, no one is writing the ending for them. They still have complete creative control. They are simply responding to overwhelming criticism.

Third, this kind of stuff happens all the time, especially in Hollywood.

I'm kinda more hoping for a "good bye rubbish half baked ideas for an ending, hello proper well thought out and implemented ideas that truly make the audience go 'WOW' rather than simply 'WTF?' ".

Well, it's a good thing we can afford to disagree.

I'm 100% behind Bioware's willingness to adjust this series' ending. They wronged their own IP, and have the humility to acknowledge that the ending was unclear and lacking in suitable closure. I applaud the team for taking tough feedback and making adjustments.

So you must hate the current ending as it fall back on the tired old unoriginal plot line of adding a brand new super being that makes the rest of the story irrelevent at the last second.

Look, the level of dissatisfaction with regards the ending to this game is unprecedented and a clear indication to those willing to wipe the poop from their eyes that Bioware dropped the ball on this one and need to take another look. Not the end of the world by any means and certainly not the end of creative freedom in videogames.

EDIT: I can say 'poop' right?

If they want creative freedom then they need to release games for free.

BUT as long as they are charging for a product, and expect us to buy DLC for that product. then they need to listen to their customers because we are the ones who buy their products.

This is simple basics of the free market. We are the consumer. They are the producer. They make a product, and we buy it. If were not happy with a product then we can take our money some place else, or demand they fix the problem before we go some place else. If there is enough of us who are not happy with a product then the business can change the product to make it better, or fix the product, and in turn they will make more money. If they don't listen to a large group of consumers. We end up move onto other games, and they lose money.

One more thing. We are an important part of the consumer base. because most consumer when not happy with a product just moves on. But the consumer who will give them a second chance to fix a product. Are also the consumers who buy all of their products. who supports them, and normally stay loyal. If we were not loyal. then we would not be here fighting to get the ending fixed. We just would not care about it if we were not loyal.

It is really just a simple part of how the free market works. If they are worried about art. then release for free then, but as long as it is a product. We have a right to complain about it.

Illogical conclusion. Creative freedom not removed. Can't tell if misunderstanding or overly political.

In any case, creative freedom does not require slave-like appreciation.

Some art fails to produce. Option to correct exists.
