Are DLC authorizations and GaW updates "One and Done"?

I have a terrible time maintaining a connection to the EA servers. Are DLC authorizations and Galaxy at War status updates needed only once before starting a play session?

Depends on your DLC, if it's just guns no, i have the Argus assault rifle and the Raider Shotgun and they work without EA connections, but the "From Ashes" DLC pack always has to connect to the EA authorization servers just to prove you didn't pirate it (even though you didn't if you bought it on origin but hey EA thinks everyone pirates just like Ubisoft) so if you have "From Ashes" you always have to be online, your GaW status I'm not so sure but "From Ashes" is a definite "always online DRM" type of DLC, I have issues with it myself and if you cannot connect to the servers you're locked out of your game regardless of your DLC being played in-game or not, it'll automatically load, so if you can't connect you have to start a new game, that's why I'm keeping From Ashes from installing on my own one, even though i have a savegame with the DLC loaded on the cloud, if they don't fix it I'm going to most likely sue for false advertising but that's beside the point, hope i helped

1. If you started a game (i.e. loaded a save successfully), your DLC will work fine until you quit the game entirely, same goes for GaW. If you lose internet connection, you will simply not have your progress reflected on your BSN profile.
2. If you need to start playing while the EA servers are down or having their usual brain-farts, disable your Internet connection ENTIRELY before starting the game. It will skip validation and let you play normally. Once you load the save, you can reconnect.

Yes, Origin is very poorly coded. Everything that's under network connections (where your cable connection/wifi/etc is listed) should be disabled or that wonderful piece of malware will still think you're online.
