Yeah. I got all that from my first read of his statement. I broke it down quickly in my blog here earlier today. I find it real funny how he tried using some of Sun Tzu's Philosophy of the art of war, and failed to implement it properly.

Nice catch though OP, I enjoyed the read.

I just really hope that Bioware doesn't try to mollify us with some kind of half-assed patch that doesn't address the core problems that people have with the end of the game. If they do, Mass Effect will probably be dead as a franchise. and I really don't want to see that happen.

Just remember to stay calm. This may be the right reading of what Ray said, but remain calm, remain courteous and keep the pressure on. They've moved even this much because of our calm collected efforts. They will have to announce what they do before they release anything, so whatever they have in the works we will get our say and we can't be ignored.

Actually, the Art of War was never written by a "Sun Tzu." The pseudonym was a pen name for the multiple people who had been passing down wartime information for decades. The compilation was not published under one collective name until much in Chinese history.

No, not everything is black and white.

Now go back to your corner.

Poor reviews on Metacritic has never been done on AAA title before, um I believe the same people that attacked DA2 on metacritic destoryed ME3. 90% of those reviews were done the same day the game released, ME3 was hate bombed on Metacritic, which to most of the population has become a cesspool of users creating multiple accounts just destroy a game, movie, etc rating.

DA2 is more controversial as to if it was good or not; Starcraft 2 is a better example of a game that simply did not deserve the bashing that it got.  Depending who you ask, ME3 falls into one of those two categories.

Which is why the scores are surprisingly even for this.

SC2 DID deserve the bashing it got when compared to SC1.

Activision got greedy it's that simple.  Oh no, you can only play the humans for $59.99.  When we gave you all three in the past.  They have a right to charge what they want, but fans have a right to say jump in a lake too.  It was incomplete to many fans, and thus why it got the poor scores.

You obviously disagree and are here to tell people they shouldn't be allowed to and you're going to try and explain why... don't waste your breath.

What, no, I agree with you. I was just commenting on how cool it is that this game has a completely split metacritic score. Nearly dead on 50. Talk about polarising!

I got lazy and didn't  realize I didn't scroll up to nikola8's post and clicked yours.  It comes from past "discussions" with SC2 lovers and activision lovers.  I was expecting a rant.  Sorry about that.  :)

I agree and am actually scared to even visit anymore. I was really upset at the ending at first but now as time has gone on I've already played beat it twice and am on my third play through. I really don't think the ending was even the ending at all anymore and that has been hidden from us even through all this uproar. I'm shocked to see people more than just a little obsessed with the game at this point, some folks need to step away for a week or so and come back cool and collected I think. <_<

Just want to say thanks for your deconstruction. I've worked in PR and was disappointed with Ray's statement when I read it for the exact reasons you outlined. Also, I don't really consider this a post to ME3 fans, but a post about the "situation" to the industry under the guise of a fan communication. This is a PR trick which is also used all the time - make it appear like you are genuinely addressing your customers when in reality you are doing damage control.

You can tear just about any statement apart anyway you want and take what you will from it. This time is no different, I think the biggest problem a lot of people have with this whole Take Back Mass Effect movement is that they are screaming for change, but change takes time. Bioware can't just change it and send it out, they have to rework it, add to it, do voice acting, do animation, edit it, redo it, edit it again, then test it, then certify it, and then hopefully put the product out for the masses.

I think being vocal about your feelings and disappointment in the game is a good thing, but I do believe there is a lot of you that are being unreasonable in your want for instant gratification.

Well said, though I do sometimes wonder if the ending was edited, redone, edited again, and then tested.  I suppose it was, but it sure doesn't look like it to me.  It kinda looks to me like it didn't make into the editing room to begin with, much less make it out of it.^_^

The nature of Sun-Tzu, huh? I think we're getting a little far-afield, at least in regards to ME3. Is this thread about the game, or merely an opportunity for @Reptilian Rob to stand "in death ground" and challenge all comers?

Funny thing about Homer, most of his works were based on the ideology that legends predate fact.

I can see how this would apply here.

If he's actually taking any of this (including what he says) seriously... well...

Sorry OP. I didn't mean to start a Firestorm by mentioning Sun Tzu's Art Of War. It's just that when dealing with people in general I always use it as a guide to spot deception among other things.

What if Ray Muzyka simply disagrees with people who hate the ending but is of course willing to come up with something so that both sides can be happy? Remember, not everyone feels the same way about the game and its ending. As the CEO of Bioware, Muzyka does not wish to alienate any player if at all possible. But there are people out there who hate the ending and would not settle for anything less than getting their way and there is just not much anyone can do about that.
