Excellent writing, excellent voice acting, and for a lot of people the character is a likable one.
I'll admit it, I'm Team Alistair.
And after having to deal with sullen, rude, power-obsessed characters in roleplay heroes (Yes, I'm looking at you FF, although thank you for Balthier.) for EVER...it's nice to have someone who doesn't follow that stereotype, is warm, open, funny and charming.

I am wondering then if British women would also think Alistar has a "very sexy accent" ?Taleroth wrote...

His romance is a joke, though. He's way too awkward for what he is.
Alistar gets a lot of knocks for not being tough enough because people think he's supposed to be a Duncan in training. You have to look at the character. This is a kid who grew up without a father, repeatedly told he should never expect to claim his birthright, generally ignored or disliked and eventually kicked out to join the Chantry. In the end some guy comes and pulls him out of that only to die six months later. No wonder the guy has minimal sense of self worth.
He's certainly brave/tough enough, (depending how much you use him) he battles werewolves, fights hundreds of dark spawn, decends into the deep roads, cleans the mage tower and does battle with the Archdemon. It's not a lack of toughness he has but a lack of self worth.
That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the fact that he's a handsome man with a very sexy accent. In the 6 months that he's been a Grey Warden outside of the Chantry alone he should have gotten his practice at beating women off with sticks.
But no, he's still some awkward finger shuffling nerd.

I can see the attraction though for a girl. He's a big tough guy who kills dragons but at heart is a soft romantic virgin who swears endless love. He's also got a sense of humor. Very well written character in my opinion. Second only to Leliana.

His "I'm a virgin" dialogue was one of the best in the game. He's perfect as he is. Except for those really annoying clothes he seems to insist on wearing even during sex.
Got to say, I love the achievement name for the Alistair romance. First Knight works on so many levels.
As to the topic, if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say 3 things:
1. He's got a lot of great dialogue, lots of humor, well performed.
2. He's got a flaw that appeals to the nurturing/supportive side.
3. They don't realize he smells. Yes, he does. When you talk to Dog in camp and Wynne wants to wash him, go with the War Dog and is supposed to smell option. Wynne will make it clear

Err, I'm pretty sure there's a good deal of middle ground there that you're leaving out.

He'd be a total catch if he was a real person, innocence like that doesn't survive very long in this world. I know I'd throw myself at him.

It's not the accent. I'm not attracted to the accent. It's the DELIVERY. He's impeccable. Claudia Black is excellent as well and it's not her accent. But she doesn't have the same material to work with. Alistair is absolutely core to the plot and there's no avoiding him. You can leave Morrigan in camp for the entire thing and just give her presents and talk to her in Ostagar, Lothering and then Redcliffe and other than that, she'll never talk to you. Alistair is going to be in your face for the whole game and you have to deal with him, like it or not.
The ONLY problem I have with any of the dialogue delivery is that sentences that are supposed to be "cut off" are just ended with a pause. For that to be my only criticism? Major good delivery.
He's asked to put together some VERY difficult moments and concepts that could have been entirely laughable, and he SELLS them. Hat's off man. Hell, armor off. That was awesome.

I don't think it's weird or disturbing that people enjoy this character or find him attractive. I mean... we're all aware he doesn't ACTUALLY exist...
That being said, the writing, the acting and the animation truly brought this character to life in a way that kind of blew me away.
Oh...and um...he IS hot. Not debating that part either.

Yeah, but Alistair is RIGHT there after the Barbarian line saying "Yes. Swooping. Is. Bad"
He upstaged her.
I did play a game where she became my bestest buddy and I started to cry when her little brows drew together and she talks about my friendship and I remember saying "Awww...I made Morrigan feel something! AWWW!"
But her MATERIAL isn't as good. You can't click through every option with her and hit comic gems four out of five times. Four out of five times you're going to get angry Morrigan and approval loss.
